I'm glad someone has said this.

You also put it in a much nicer way than I would have....

When I take delivery of an Apple desktop / laptop computer that kernal panics less - or at least as often - as the least reliable Windows machine I have under heavy but regularly maintained use, and a 'Pro' machine that runs as trouble / defect-free in real-life use as a midpriced Dell from their business-aimed ranges, I'll shut up. Do we have a deal?

@tomoisyourgod:
Did they say exactly why they needed it? I mean, it could be that they're going to try and farm the design out there as well and they already have someone in mind...?

site testing... however the boss does have a lot of love for the Indians as they work for very little £$, he gives them what they want really hacks me off

Unnecessary maybe, but bleating designers who expect things to be handed to them on a plate annoys me a little. Not in-forum, but out there in the real world where I have people working with me. That was the initial impression.

Oh please- that's not what you said initially. And give me a break, you know what designers get paid- sh*t. The least a company can do is give one the proper tools. If they don't, and still pay sh*t, then it's time to go.

No. How about not posting pointless, verging on trolling and, by your own admission, unnecessary comments all the fecking time.

So you've had a not so good Apple experience and you've mainly got Dells. Good for you, whatever floats your boat. If you think Apple are so bad, why do you keep buying them?

What are you doing- jumping up and down and stomping on the Mac boxes before you unpack the computers? My office (about 300 people) is mostly Mac, even most of the servers and we don't have those problems at all. I've worked at this company for 8 years and used macs the whole time. The few Dell servers and comps that we do have are constantly keeping the IT boys busy though, I can tell you that. They always complain that we should go all Mac, but then they concede that a few of them would be laid off due to lack of work.

I fear we may start to veer off topic, but I don't think I pay our designer sh*t, although she may have other ideas. She earns notably more than my assistant, who is in the upper-end pay scale for a PA in London.

And by the same token as bartelby's question - if you're getting paid sh*t, why are you in the job?

I'm not a "designer" technically anymore- I got promoted twice. I'm a Senior Art Director now. What I'm telling you is this- I can understand a designer taking a low-paying position to get in the door. However, if a company can't even provide the proper tools to someone, I would submit that company could give a crap about their product and consequently, their employees. And good for you for doing right by your employees. Come to the US, "choices" in this field are very limited.

You're right, and it's true that zealotry goes both ways, and it's the same kind of annoying no matter what it's about. I think there oughta be a to-the-death cage match session for zealots. In this case computer zealots. The winner's prize? A stoning to death with his/her opponent's computer brand.

If that happens to be a Macintosh, the people conducting the stoning (read: stoners) would wear Finder masks in the style of the ancient Greek comic/drama masks. Or there's always the 'nuclear option.' We could record Robert Goulet singing every transcript (including the cheering) from every Apple Keynote and strap them to a chair, put the recording on loop and force them to listen to it while watching a constant flickering of Happy Mac to Sad Mac bootup.

"Aaaaaaaaaannnndddd tooooooooooooooooday we're introducing the iPhooooooonnnnnneeeee. Foooooouuuuuuuur devices in ooooooooneeeeeeeeee! Boooooooooooooooom, isn't it increeeeeeeeeeedible?"

Since we live in a "civilized" society (as evidenced by this thread), unfortunately this is not an option. That being the case, I think it's best to simply ignore it.
