I still chuckle whenever I hear someone say it offers console-like games.

It will take a much much better GPU for a device running at such a high resolution to come close to what current consoles offer. Sky Gamblers for example, was touted as being console-like. Upon firing it up, the first thing you notice is how poor the runway looks.

retina resolution it's huge!, i think that the new ipad hardware isn't enought for it. Think that my 3.06ghz imac, with a 8800Gs can't handle the native resolution "1920x1200" in most of games. I think that were to soon for the retina...

There's an important difference there - PC games are written for a wide range of hardware (sometimes including hardware that isn't even available when the game launches), so unless you have the very latest, highest-end hardware available when the game launches you can usually forget playing at full resolution and full quality. Besides, PC devs usually target the most common screen resolutions because no matter what you consider 'high end' there's always somebody with some crazy setup like a wall of 4k x 2k screens...

The iPad on the other hand? It's more like a console. It has fixed (well, with variations between iPad 1,2,3) hardware so developers can optimise heavily. You know the screen is 2048x1536, you know what the GPU is and what it's capable of, and you know what framerate you want. So you build the game to fit. You don't build it to look amazing and release it even though it only does 10fps. if you're porting a console game, you might use a simpler lighting setup, lower-detail meshes, less FX. You'd re-write the shaders so they're optimised for the GPU (this can give a huge speed increase). Then you might increase the texture resolution to increase sharpness. End result is a game that looks good and plays well - but it's not identical to the PS3 version.

I play Order and Chaos online with my iPad3 and also did with my 1st and second gen iPads.

Huge performance increase from gen1 to gen2.

However, I too am seeing some hiccups and slowness in some situations in game that bug me and that I did not see on my iPad2. I will however add that since Gameloft updated the game for retina it looks UNBELIEVABLE. REALLY NICE!

I too will agree that the iPad gets warm but never too hot to hold and never shuts down due to overheating. I mostly notice this if I am playing my game while plugged into the charger.
