It is this type of choice that will end up causing all internet companies that deal in the US to charge tax...states are already losing so much revenue- it is only a matter of time.

While I pay no sales or income tax in NH, we do pay a healthy property tax...over $5,000 a year for a small four bedroom home with no garage.

So in the end, we all end up paying- of course as the OP notes- some more than others!!!

I teach second and third graders and I give them one thing to say before making a choice..."what if everyone did it?" In other words, what would the impact be...they seem to really understand this...too bad more people don't.

I absolutely love my generation. Give them a zero and be done with it.

I was going to say that. I'm too considerate of idiocy.

Sadly kiddo it isn't just your generation. I love having discussions with grown men and women who think text speak is an acceptable form of communication.

I think speaking like that as an adult is deserving of a full-on pants-drop-getting.

Try 9.5% in California... and the state is still hopelessly broke! I already pay more than my fair share of taxes as a married DINK. Until the incompetent government straps a GPS to my leg to tax every step I take I'll use every opportunity I can to save a few bucks!

I live in Cook County, IL, and the sales tax rate is 10%. And in Chicago, it's 10.25%. Highest in the US.... :(

If someone buys a product from an Oregon seller online they should expect to pay the tax that the state charges. Nothing. There is no sales tax in Oregon.

It depends on the state in which you live. It can be anywhere from 0% to... 8 or 9%, I think. I don't remember the highest.

Los Angeles' is 9.75% starting July first... Thanks Arnold...

"Los Angeles County voters approved a 0.5% sales and use tax which will take effect July 1, 2009. The tax rate within Los Angeles County will increase from 9.25% to 9.75%. Five cities within Los Angeles County will also have a 0.5% tax increase. Avalon City, El Monte, and Inglewood will increase to 10.25%. Pico Rivera and South Gate will increase to 10.75%."

9.75 is horrid! I stare at the 200+ tax for my purchase haha. But pretty much the question is answered here:p.

In the UK VAT (sort of same as Sales Tax) is 18.5% but that is included in the price on the tag

Some information about Europe:

Germany: 19%
Austria: 20%
Switzerland: 7.6% <- ME :-D
Ukraine: 20% <- also me for the other half of the year, but I never buy gadgets there, so it doesn't matter to me ;-)

EU lowest: 15%
EU highest: 25% (Sweden and Denmark)

non-EU lowest: 4% (Andorra)
non-EU highest: 25% (Norway)

Conclusion: be happy about the prices in the US!

Your slaes tax laws vary from state to state. Therefor what you can, and can't do will vary.

In MN we pay sales tax on things purchased from Apple as Apple does have retail stores and the like in the state. I don't pay sales tax on stuff from Newegg, because Newegg is not located in my state.
