My two cents as to why the post came off as "offensive". It was a bit of a humble-brag, no? The fact that it was a gift and OP is not going to use it has no relevance with the title that it just wasn't impressive. That's ok, no need to get into finances or about it sitting on your shelf for months. It would have been nice if he actually elaborated at all on why it wasn't impressive as opposed to getting into detail about how or why he doesn't really need it. I am not personally offended since I feel everyone can do whatever they choose with their money or gifts, but not hard to see why people are.

It doesn't help your case to say you got an expensive gift and you don't like it. It's supposed to be a Pro forum for people who invest money in their toolset she. It's super that you got a gift but try the other perspective and you'll see things differently.
