You clearly didnt read my original post.  It's not the delay itself, its the reason for it.... delaying the operating sytem to make way for a stupid telephone, which incidentaly you can't even buy in the UK and probably will never be able to.

You clearly did watch the keynote(made it bigger so you get it)

I'm not 100% sure the iPhone is the reason for the delay..maybe part of it, but not all. Also the iPhone is a very big step for Apple, it needs to be good, if its not, their going to have a hard time getting into the cell phone world. The secret features aren't even public...they can't be very far done with them. If it is Vista support(seemless support, with not need to boot Vista to get a Windows App), it would make perfect sense to have to wait, Vista is still "new" giving Apple less time to work with it.

But honestly if this bothers you alot, don't get a Mac. If you get a Windows PC, you can be pretty sure they won't delay the OS because of a phone, they'll delay it because they can't do half of what they promised. 5 years later, and all they add is some OS X rip-offs, and pretty effects.

I would almost be willing to bet the house that the iPhone is not the really the delay behind Leopard. Leopard is far from ready for primetime. So, why not get a little free publicity over how state of the art the iPhone is instead of how super buggy and behind Leopard is?!

Starting to sound like a troll...Apple became a company in 1976...from 1976 to 2001, what do you think they were doing? Working on the iPod?

Starting to sound like the typical Mac Zealot.

What were they doing all that time? Fighting off bankruptcy I believe.

OK here's my story, I have been wating for some to switch, basically when Leopard was released and probably to a Mac Mini, a computer which Apple seem to be sorely neglecting. However, now i'm not so sure anymore, and the more I procrastinate the less appealing a switch seems. :(

It's not so much the 4 or so months delay to Leopard thats irked me, but the reason for the delay. I'm a little reticent to invest hundreds of pounds in new hardware/software when the company that makes that software running its computers considers a gimmicky telephone to be far more important. That doesn't instil me with a great deal of confidence in the Mac as a long term computing platform. It's computer business seems to be increasingly sidelined for more and more pricey gadgets.

You have been posting anti-Apple crap like this ever since you drove up. Give it a rest. You were troll-busted in the past, and I suspect you are re-cycling a few different aliases. Go back to MS and tell them to make better products and act responsibly. That is how they can compete with Apple. Not by doing this stuff.

How come we get so many threads from people thinking that we love nothing more than to try and convince them not to buy a Windows machine? Like they are teasing us. Like we really care.

"Please, pleeeease don't buy another PC, Mr. Potential Switcher Man! Please!?"

If you are "Not sure about a Mac anymore", too bad, so sad. That's your problem. Buy a Windows machine and enjoy it. We shouldn't, and don't, give a damn what you do.

So is this what happens to everyone who dares to be critical of Apple? I swear some of the posters in this thread would buy magic beans if they had an Apple logo on them.

So incredibly rude.

Oooooooh, magic beans!!! :apple: :apple: :apple:

Someone close this thread already...

We are ALL critical of Apple. If you did more around here than just troll, you'd see that there are plenty of threads questioning Apple's moves, product releases, software updates, etc. Criticising Apple is one of the more popular things to do around here.

The difference is we do it because we love Apple and follow their product lines very closely. You do it because you are a troll and want to see everyone get worked up.

Now, tell me more about these magic beans...

So basically what you're saying is you can only be critical of Apple if you are a Mac user? Any one who is not must automatically be a troll right?

While it is possible to be a PC user critical of Apple without trolling, I'll admit we can make it difficult.

In this case, you're making it difficult for yourself. If you don't understand now, you never will.

Sigh, so childish.

Yes, would someone please close this thread.

Agreed, you don't have confidence in Apple as a maker of OSes any more.

Me, I don't care one way or another what you buy or why, and see no reason to read any more about it.

Bye.

Cut the enlightened martyr routine. People are not stupid here. They can see through what you are attempting to do. You are using this site to discredit Apple. You are very obvious and not particularly clever at it.

If anything, most of the people who post here are very kind and try to give a new person the benefit of the doubt. I am not one of those. I have a personal stake in this. I work hard bringing Apple into the corporate world. Purchasing decisions should be based on the merits of the technology and TCO. I find it very annoying to read the disinformation, and propaganda campaign, being propagated by the MS camp. Yours could just be taken from "Bash Apple - Method 4 template". After nearly 3 years of reading here, the same posts are just recycled and regurgitated.

You make a few mistakes in your assessment.

For one, you see a distinction between a computer and a gimmicky telephone. You are wrong. Macs and iPhones are both computers. The iPhone has two 200 MHz ARM processors; each is in my experience about as fast as an 800 MHz P4, which makes it probably equivalent to a 500 MHz Core Duo. And the iPhone runs MacOS X. Any work that is done on the iPhone is actually work done on MacOS X.

Second, welcome to business. The goal is ten million iPhones in the first year. That is about 4-5 billion US$ in revenue. Tiger would sell a few million copies, that would be a few hundred million US$. See the difference is numbers? Short term this decision may slow down MacOS X; long term it brings in tons of money that will be used to hire more developers.

On the other hand, _Macs_ (not MacOS X) are indeed big business for Apple, and they will stay big business. Macs will produce about 10 billion US$ in revenue in the next year. And you've seen just a few days ago that Apple is hard at work improving them with the eight core Mac Pro. That improvement will not stop and will drive sales of Macs.

Don't buy from Apple. They delay the release of their latest OS!

No, no, my friend. Microsoft is the way to go!

Absolutely. I bought Longhorn when it was released, right on time in December 2004, with all these new innovative features, and never looked back. Oh sorry, the name is Vista nowadays, most of the innovative features have disappeared, the rest a lame copy of MacOS X, and nobody wants it :D

i assume the alternative you are considering is software by a company that delayed the release by about 3-4 years and when it came out had all the 'next-gen' features stripped!?!? makes sense lol, your mistake

One thing by September / October most of the Mac line should have new intel processors (hopefully).

Mac Book / Mac Book Pro - Penryn
iMac - Penryn or Wolfdale
Mac Pro - some new 45nm

All speculation, yes. Thing is Apple would want to capitalize on the wait thats for sure.

I don't think Penryn is coming that soon. They will no doubt have the new C2D's, but Penryn isn't coming until the end of this year at the earliest.
