Don't get me wrong. I edit videos all the time too. But I mostly meant for people who do it professionally or for a hobby. :)
Professionals and hobbyists? That pretty much covers everybody.

Doesn't matter. Your defense of Apple removing firewire in your macbook was obviously a mistake. Otherwise they wouldn't have admitted it by putting it back in.

I am still happy with mine and I never used Firewire before and I don't plan on it either. I use mine everyday and it's the 1st laptop I got that I didn't feel like I needed to get the newer one when it came out.

I didn't feel screwed one bit when the "pro" came out. I'm more than happy with my purchase.
I love the fact that my battery IS user replaceable also.. The less my computer is outta my hands the better!

Apple introducing improved models with new features at cheaper price points six months after they were introduced may help explain it, too.

Yes, because Apple have never done anything like that before *cough*4GB iPhone*cough* :p

Seriously, though, those alu MacBooks are cool, something about seeing just "MacBook" under the screen on one of those was great.

Nice to see you're using the desktop picture I made as your avatar, clyde2801. Since just noticing that, I've set it as my own desktop picture again. Nice. And yes, I'm still loving my MacBook CE as much as I did when I bought it. A colleague of mine bought the new 13" MacBook Pro and I'm not jealous at all, really. They're both great little machines and mine still does exactly what I expect from it.

Love mine. Obviously wish I had the MBP13, but considering this was an out-of-warranty, free replacement from Apple for my white MacBook that wouldn't stop breaking, I'm not going to complain too much.

The FireWire isn't what I want, though ... it's not having to use a damn USB SD reader, and the better screen. That being said, I'm going to push this machine for quite a while. Just ordered 4GB of RAM.

Computers always get better, so it's no use freaking out about it. They're still great machines. We're just victims of an industry that convinces us we need the latest and greatest.

I actually just bought one, its replacing my mac mini. I had a 15" macbook pro first edition and this thing blow it away IMO. Portability is amazing, and its plenty fast. Like others I kind of like how it wasn't produced very long, the only thing I would like to have off of the newer macbook pro is the screen.

Tell me about it. I switched to mac in '03 in the last couple of years of the PPC era. In 12-18 months, the g4 chips would jump to 1.33 to 1.5 or 1.67 ghz; it was a lot easier to say 'meh' and keep using your 'old' machine.

Besides the lack of malware for the platform, the absence of the forced wintel upgrade cycle was a strong motivator to switch. I knew a couple of old mac hands who were contentedly using 3-4 year old machines to make a living, with nary a thought of upgrading. One guy was using os9 programs in '07! They've since moved on to intels after their PPC's broke out of warranty.

I like the power and features on intel macs, don't get me wrong. It's just the switch to intel, influx of former wintel users and the constant cycle of upgrades has transplanted the forced upgrade mentality to the platform. The constant stream of 'OMG! Should I sell my four month old MBP and buy a...?' threads on this forum attests to this.

I wouldn't mind a slightly faster processor, nicer screen, longer battery, sd card slot and firewire, don't get me wrong. If my 2.4 ce mb dies tomorrow and applecare offers me a 13" 2.53 mbp, I'd take it. I just see no need to take a $2-400 dollar loss on selling my old machine (which works well for me at this time) and buying the new systems for that purpose. If apple comes out with quad core machines with new features in the next year, it would have to be pretty amazing to get me to even think about giving up this machine. As long as it does what I need it to do, I'll keep using it.

I'll even say this: If my machine breaks past it's extended applecare, I may even look at apple's competitors. Windows 7 is supposed to be secure, stable and not too user unfriendly. If the other side of the fence offers a secure OS with more consumer choice in components and features at a lower price point, I'd consider it. Mac is my OS, not my religion.

Heck, I'll even go a step further and say that I hope win 7 is a success for MS. Competition is always good for consumers. If apple thinks that the new OS could stem the tide of buyers running into the apple store, it will innovate extra hard on features, products and price. IMO, they've gotten a bit of a free ride during the last few years from xp's malware and vista's compatibility issues.

I don't feel screwed one bit. I rarely ever have a need for firewire. And other than it not having it, my computer is perfect in every single way. :D

Ditto. I don't feel screwed. Would it be nice to have a 13" MBP? Absolutely, but I don't feel screwed at all with my Alu MacBook and it's a perfect laptop for my needs.

The only feature I may have ever wished I had was the built in SD Card reader, but I have a $10 USB reader which fits my needs and works just fine.
