Don't congratulate yourself there chief. Your post just lacked substantive content and was more in the snotty brat troll vein of things.

There are hundreds of threads on here about the 2008 v. 2009 machines and obviously, the 2010 machines are little more than a slight speed bump on the 2009 machines.

There are hundreds of threads on here about why Apple has been neglecting the Mac Pro for several years now.

So, when you said "not to pick on 2009 MP owners" you really did mean to pick on 2009 MP owners and that type of disingenuous play gets little traction anywhere, not just on this forum.

Seem to me like just a jealousy attack. Definitely seems like the got to have the latest type. Check out his sig. It's got a 4zillion gigs of ram and a bunch of other (expensive albeit) crap i dont care about

"Early 2008 Mac Pro 2.8ghz quad 4zillion gigaram and a bunch of other crap, but I won't bother to post like its an ***** badge of honor or some ****"

EFI firmware - possibilities of obtaining it.

The best way is to find out where the ROM chip which holds the EFI is located.. since the 2010 uses the same processor tray and backpane logic board as the 2009(its a 2009 w/westmere support).. we can then see if its on the logic board or the processor tray..

If its on the processor tray(cpu board), then a simple 400 dollar buy would be needed to obtain westmere.. if its on the logic board(backpane, which i doubt it would be - have to see the 09 to find it), then you would need a new logic board - very expensive.

I'd say the best route is to wait to see if someone on here can do the impossible and provide.. otherwise if its on the processor tray, then when it becomes available, I am sure Applepalace will have them for sale for end consumers.

I wouldn't say they were the worst value for money at all. Look at the price for the 2010's....a marginal speed bump for the Quad, and everything else is way more expensive. If you ask me, im super happy I got my 2009, because I can upgrade my processor to a 3.33Ghz Nehalem (hopefully Westmere if they crack the EFI) pretty easily, and I can still run anything you throw at me.

Worst value? Best value maybe.

That years seems like it got shafted. I wanna see mind blowing upgrades.
Only apple could pull off:
"were gonna give you lower clock speed, but its much better, infact, its f-cking magic!"

Are you guys still happy with your 2009s or is this new ones aggravating.

Still happy with mine. Though if the 5870 video card is released a la carte, I'll be much happier. :D

One day I might get a refurb dual-quad when prices become realistic...

I actually felt more disappointed when the new i7 iMacs came out. They beat out my base 2.66 quad in most things. Nice thing now is that I can open mine up and stick a new video card or upgrade the processor (which I am considering....)

Or sell this and get the new iMac.

Not sure.

My 8-core 2.66GHz Mac Pro is a still a top performer… so yeah we didn't shafted.

You're just jealous we've been ahead of the curve for a year and half.
