Nope…I think this just might be the most lackluster AW update ever. I like the plan of picking up an S9 (e.g., Black Friday, Clearance, etc…) or holding off until teh S11.
Walmart had the stainless s8 large watch last week for $249.

I know that’s a couple years old, but that’s a steal of a price. If you keep an eye out, there are some very good prices out there.

So glad JetbBlack is back from the iPhone 7. Now the 7 owners have a watch that doesn’t work with their iPhones. Lol. They should have had a matching phone. Stupid.

Do we know for sure this isn‘t happening?

I can find a single mention, screenshot, etc of the regular watch using that face. That's obviously not definitive proof but it's not looking good.

no, will have to wait til release day I guess
Edit: the face is called "Modular Ultra" in watchos10, so we will see ...
Why though? The release candidate for WatchOS is already available now. It's not there from what I understand.

It might be available on the 10 only, not existing models, except Ultra of course

I am also on AW 4, but I have SS model. I am not sold on S10, especially now that SS model is gone and only aluminum and titanium are available. I really like the weight and feel of SS and I am not sure if Titanium is going to offer the same experience. I might also look for some deals and will try to snag S9 SS and call it a day.
YMMV but I went from SS to Ti natural 3 releases ago and find it much better looking -- slightly darker, less shiny. Would not get anything but Ti in the future.

The AW9 must not have been offered in Ti (I could be wrong; someone will correct me) since I didn't upgrade last year.

I ordered the 10 in natural Ti.

Talk about a shart of an update, kinda wanna watch the keynote now just to see how they spun a fat nothing.

Don't miss my favorite part ... where they talked about the AirPods Max pricing still being at $549 ... as if that isn't a MASSIVE ripoff for what the product is in 2024 and into 2025 soon

It's borderline theft to have that product priced there at this point

I don't care what they price their new headgear at. I will not buy any Apple-branded headsets, they produce overpriced and unreliable mediocrity.

My AirPods Pro were a major disappointment on several levels.
  • They don't stay securely in the ear. Cheap Chinese earbuds do, not-too-cheap Bose do, "superior" Apple Pros don't.
  • The sound quality is average. Not bad, definitely not outstanding. Again, my old Bose blows them out of the water.
  • The microphone is pretty useless outside, very poor noise / wind cancelation.
  • The automatic switching of calls between Apple devices has been problematic and not very reliable. Again, that Bose just has a button that lets me very quickly switch between several paired devices. Not as intelligent, but a lot more predictable and still very fast.
  • One of my mics stopped working about two months after AppleCare ran out.
So, why did I not stick with Bose ? Well, they had their flaws. First, the BT connection intermittently cut out when I was doing fast movements, like exercising or shoveling snow. This was the major problem. Second, the charging case was just huge, about twice as long as Apple's and thicker (or rather more round in crossection). And the mic quality was poor. But the sound quality was outstanding, the fit was secure and comfortable, and the price was half of what I paid for the AirPod Pros.

Unlike iPhone vs Android, or Mac vs Windows, the headphones market is full of choice.

I'm confused -- what do you have now?

I had Bose, fantastic sound but poor BT connection when making sudden moves. Replaced them with AirPods Pro that were a major disappointment. Worse sound, worse ear fit, dead mic on one side, can't easily switch between iPhone and Windows laptop. Better size, that's a plus.

I still have the Airpods Pro but when they die (or the second mic stops working) will replace them with something different. There's got to be better ones in that price range.

@SnowCrocodile I went from an AW S4 to the Ultra 2 last year and it was a huge upgrade. Such a difference from the other watches and the battery life is insane. I actually found an S7 titanium on eBay for cheap and won the lotto when I found out it had AppleCare+ for 18 more months. Replaced it for a brand new/shiny S7 to wear occasionally or dress up. I have no desire to get the S10.

So glad JetbBlack is back from the iPhone 7. Now the 7 owners have a watch that doesn’t work with their iPhones. Lol. They should have had a matching phone. Stupid.
You know what the best matching setup is right now??? 15 Pro/Max Natural Ti with AW S7 Titanium:

No way… Since Series 4 there are three generations that clearly did not measure up:

1- Series 8: literally three novelties (Wrist Temperature sensor, car crash detection and bluetooth 5.3…). Worst update ever.

2- Series 9: x2 nits, x2 internal storage, Chip U2 and some improvements for a more agile Siri and little else.

3 - Series 5: at least, here a fundamental function was added, such as the AOD. But a year later… +150% brighter AOD on Series 6. One year more (Series 7) and… another +70% brighter AOD.

The Series 9 is what the Series 8 should have been, and even then, the two combined would have been a small leap compared to other years (including this one).

Way…Series 9 is the most refined version of the previous generation design (e.g., S7, 8 & 9). The newer S9 chip and x2 nits were a nice improvement. At a clearance price, a great buy. I’d swap out the Series 9 from your list of 3 and replace it with the series 10…which has essentially the same chip as the S9 and come with some very limited and poor color options in the base version…IMHO:)

My AW4 is showing its age, and I was waiting for the AW10 to make up my mind.

My biggest hope was a significantly better battery life. Which is one thing that I don't see on the list.

Thinner ? Whatever. The current watch is thin enough for me.

Larger ? That's nice, but AW9 is plenty large.

Faster charging ? That's great, but I was really looking forward to a longer lasting battery. I charge at night.

So, it seems I will be looking for AW9 clearance sales, or may still pick a 10 if the cost difference is less than $150 or so.

Am I the only one who feels that this is yet another mildly incremental update ?
I agree. I was hoping being the 10th installment, we'd get that "iPhone X" moment.. but I was wrong.

My use habits for a watch have moved into fitness tracking, so battery life, especially when tramping has taken up more of my weekends, so a Garmin is technically a better fit for me.. but Apple knows how to make a nice UI and the Garmin looks.. eh yeah..

Incremental updates is why I'm also still on the series 4. The way I see it, this is the biggest hardware change since the 4 with a bigger screen and thinner casing so now is the time to change (and apple doesn't provide latest software for the 4, ha!). I do think you and I would see a significant difference in hardware between the 4 and 10, even though they seem small.
Both Apple Watch and iPhones are mature enough, that at least every three years is often enough to be a nice upgrade (back in the days I had every new iPhone!)

My wife jumped from a Series 5 to 9 last year and the battery lasted way longer actually

Please do share what you end up going with -- I've also found my APP to be overpriced "meh"

It feels like this year's AW lineup has fewer colours options...especially for the aluminum model.
Last year you have Starlight, Silver, Black, Pink and Project Red.

If you're not partial to the glossy black, you've only got silver or gold.

I would have preferred a matte black (the return of space grey would have been ideal).

At this point, I am really hesitant to drop another $250 on a pair of earphones just to get another overpriced piece of junk.

I bought a set of OTE headphones made by Anker for use on the treadmill, while cutting grass, biking etc. Didn't want to spend too much on something that would be covered in sweat and dust. They are actually very good. A bit bulky and not as sleek looking as Sony or Bose, but excellent sound quality, good ANC, and a decent microphone (well, not any worse than APP). So perhaps I'll just get their earphones - the reviews are pretty good, the price is relatively low, and I liked most of Anker's products I've had so far.

Another copium post.

There are loads of improvements just from Series 7 to Series 10, which I'm looking forward to. From S4 to S10 it's barely even the same product. I'm sick so of coping posts like this that are looking for validation.
