Here is the issue: the new version uses huge amount of CPU! It causes the fans to come on, and it's the greatest energy hog on my Mac! Right now it's using much more energy than Safari.
Yeah, I've watched it sit at 100% cpu for awhile now. Am hoping this calms down eventually? I have almost 400 notes.....

Does the new Mac version still support various geometric shapes pen options? I am probably the one user in the world that needs those and I don't want to upgrade from my current version if they are not there anymore.

Upgrade on Mac was indeed free - but only after clicking through two 'buy' dialogues including one that said something like 'You will be charged using your stored payment method...' App Store experience is pretty crap here. If it wasn't for the fact I was looking at $4 plus others assuring it was free of charge, I wouldn't have clicked through.

This is a good upgrade - finally text anywhere in a note on the Mac version. Now if we could just have another couple of levels of note organisation hierarchy - that would be good!

This is a very timely update, I was literally looking at alternatives to Notability just yesterday!

Sure enough, I went for it and clicked through those messages, and indeed it was actually free.

This concerns me - I use Notability specifically because it runs smoothly. I also tried Goodnotes (I think it's catalyst) but on my 2015 MBP I can't use my Wacom because it has too much lag! If the new Notability lags too I won't have anything.

WOW it's UPDATED. And I'm running it on an Intel Mac :D Wooo hoo. Go Notability! Looks like the Mac OS version finally has all the features the iPad OS / iOS version does!

This is still an Intel app

After restarting the computer, Notability is down to 0.0% CPU.

Should I uninstall the old version prior to installing the new one or will the new one replace the old one automatically?

Have used Notability for years on my iPads. Fantastic app. The macOS version I also use as an adjunct to my iPad. Looking forward to the new update for macOS.

No Apple Silicon M1 native support? What a waste of opportunity. "DISAPPOINTED!!!" lol

I have not encountered high CPU utilization, yet. I'm on an MBA M1 so no fans. CPU for Notability is currently less than 1%. I only have about 400 notes at this time and iCloud sync was extremely fast. I'll keep an eye on CPU though.

I just downloaded the catalyst version. Mine showed the $3.99 price, but when I clicked Buy it told me I "owned a previous version and this update is free"

So when I click on the price button and then again to purchase it I get a Touch ID prompt. For the users that said that they got this popup where it states a free upgrade: When exactly did this show up?

Yeah it was after doing Touch ID.

After the touch-id for me, it went through like it was going to charge me then I got another OK saying - I had already purchased. Didn't do that for you?
You're completely right. I indeed had to click on "Buy" in the prompt shown in my screenshot. Thank you. I really wish Apple would make this more clear.

Definitely agree. I don't know why that is made to be so confusing - lol. I'm on a family plan with my wife (Apple Family Sharing) and I have to "buy" apps she has already purchased, then it notices she purchased them, and then I can download them. Very confusing.
