Have you had a chance to test the camera yet? Do you find arranging the tiles the same as getting all you app icons in the order you prefer? I like the fact that you can re-size the tiles....

I've done some initial tests overall the quality of the images are nice. There does seem to be a lag in pressing the button to snap the picture and the actual capture. I've read about this, and so its not a surprise, but it is there

If it's like the 1520 it's because it's a dual shutter button. Press it to focus and press it again or harder/longer to snap.

Gotcha, thanks

I'm finding recharging seems inordinately slow, I'm chalking it up to being a brand new battery. It hasn't been fully charged yet but I've been doing that today.

I think I discovered the issue, some degree.

My phone drained 40% last night while I was out at a banquet. I wasn't using the phone as it was mostly sitting on the table (and 4 bars of LTE). On goggling fast draining/slowing recharging. There seems to be an issue that causes a thread to get stuck active and starts consuming cpu cycles (thus consuming the battery).

This will drain the battery extremely quickly, and also cause the recharge rate to drag on extremely slowly.

I don't know the specific cause, if its an app or a bug in the OS, I'll be googling more on this today.

LTE ! What's that :p

Keep us posted with what you discover as it may come in handy for others.

I came across this post via google. I'm looking at this but people seem happy about the suggestions
http://forums.wpcentral.com/windows...ion-solve-fast-battery-drain.html#post2156274

This one seems to focus on background tasks, as I mentioned but also location services.

Looks like they are also suggesting calibrating the battery, i.e., drain it under 10% then charge it fully for over an hour (plugged in for an hour beyond the 100% mark).

I had though I had a defective battery but it looks like there are a few bugs which 8.1 may address and if not, there seems to be some work arounds.

Well, I took the plunge and got an Icon.

LOL, thanks.

I'm enjoying the WP8 phone, though not the battery drain so much. I'm in the process of calibrating the battery now and tomorrow I'll see how the phone is with it calibrated and location services off. If I get better performance then I'll be happy. I may also call VZW and state my issue and see what they say, i.e., replace the phone.

I've also been seeing some posts in the various forums that battery utilities can be part of the problem, i.e., needlessly running just to measure the battery. Granted its not causing the problem, but it may not be helping

Does seem strange your getting such battery drain and frustrating for you as it mars your first experience.

I've been using my Lumia 1520 relatively lightly over the weekend just about 20-25 photos taken / syncing to OneDrive etc.. and 3 emails checking, and little messaging (about 15 SMS) and couple of calls over the weekend. I charged it fully before and here now is my battery result.

So far..

1 day 14 hours on battery (38 hours) and I'm at 86% ..... Seriously impressive.

Now of course no LTE here and this is only relatively light usage but still very impressive.

I saw the 930 Icon wont be available to any US carriers except Verizon?
That stinks.

I guess my only option with ATT Next is the 1520 successor?

Besides paying $600 for it and bringing it to ATT which wont happen for me.

I think the 930 was the non US version. But i think you will see the Icon released to other carriers. JMHO......

Sorry, I may have gotten confused. I thought the 930 and the Icon are the same phones?

So an Icon like phone will come to US and not be named Icon?

During a keynote presentation at the Build developer conference earlier today, former Nokia CEO and current Executive Vice President of Devices at Microsoft Stephen Elop unveiled the Nokia Lumia 930, a Windows Phone 8.1 flagship handset that packs a 20-megapixel camera and wireless charging. It will launch in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and India beginning in June for $599.

Save for its OS update, the Nokia Lumia 930 is nearly identical to the Lumia Icon in terms of specs. Sold exclusively on Verizon Wireless in only black and white, the Icon has the same screen, camera, and processor as the 930. However, we were told that unlike the Icon, the 930 can have an extra column of Live Tiles on the start screen. This is a new feature included in the OS update, and it will be an option on any Nokia phone from now that measures five inches or larger.

The Lumia 930 is just one of three new devices Nokia announced today. The more budget-friendly Lumia 630 and 635 are the other phones launching with Windows Phone 8.1, and both feature 4.5-inch touch screens.

Thank you for that clarification.

I can only hope now that ATT gets some sort of 930,Icon,whatever as I am very impressed with what is going on with these Window phones. I have never even considered them in the past.

There's two things that I think are going on. I've been reading a number of threads on wpcentral's forums about the Icon's battery. Something is up with the lack of battery performance. Many people are draining it quite fast from normal usage. I also stumbled across some battery reviews, in that they rated the Icon's performance much less then the 1520. So I think overall its a poor performer.

Secondly, I wonder if I have a defective battery that exacerbates the issues further. I've not seen any improvement in how long the battery lasts after calibrating the battery, and turning off all services such as location, NFC, BT etc.

Just on standby overnight I went from 88% to 58%

I am disappointed in that I don't want a phone that I'm literally tied too, that always has be plugged in.

Yeah that's very bad standby drainage. I get about 3-5% drainage overnight.

Casing point... The screenshot from yesterday at 86%....

Well here is a screenshot taken right now taken 12 hours 20 mins after the other screenshot and the phone has been powered on the whole time, but mostly in standby

wp_ss_20140407_0001.jpg

84%

2% drain in 12 hours 20 mins....

with 50 hours on battery so far....

I'm liking the platform so I don't think I want to exchange it for the Note 3. After I drop my kids off at school this morning I'll call VZW and see what they say.

Here's a screenshot of my battery's performance using a battery app I installed. I had uninstalled it yesterday as people stated those can also negative impact the battery.

I'm also going to do a hard reset on it this morning and not install any apps, to see if the short list of apps I did install could be the cause.

The big drop off you see there is when I was surfing and doing other stuff to purposely drain the phone for calibration. Still it wasn't like I was doing anything different then on my old iPhone 5.

Yeah that's a massive drop for what you were doing .... Hope you get it sorted as I was thinking of getting the 930 due to more pocketable size over the 1520 when it was released here, but I'm so used to the good battery on this now.

I also have an Icon, but I don't see anywhere near that type of battery drain. I don't perform a lot of demanding tasks on my phone:

1. listen to several hours of Nokia MixRadio a day over LTE
2. an hour or so of reading on the kindle app
3. tons of texting with my wife
4. email
5. normal voice calls (maybe 45 mins-1hour a day)

I usually end the day with about a 50% charge remaining. Then I leave the phone on the wireless charger all night.

Sounds to me like you either have a rogue app or a bad battery

That is pretty good battery life to me.....

Mike if you are not getting the same results....I would suggest another unit. You might have a defective battery or something else going on with your icon.

I just got off the phone with VZW and they're shipping a new one out to me and should hopefully be here by Wednesday.

They first recommended I go back to where I got it, and replace it there, but they don't have any more at the store. I got the second to last one and while my order was being processed someone snagged the other available unit.

Here's hoping and praying that the new one will be better :)

Did battery performance get any better? Has your replacement arrived yet?

Yeah, what was the outcome? I'm also interested in the Icon but with that type of battery drain, there's no way I could go from excellent battery life on the Note 3 to that.

It's a shame Verizon has such slim pickings when it comes to WP8. That's one thing I do miss about AT&T, they always have a vast array of devices to choose from.

Verizon does have a new Samsung W8 phone called Samsung ATIV SE. It is supposed to be in stores on the 14th. It looks like a great phone. But not sure how Samsung does WP8 to be honest. I know Nokia is invested in WP8 to provide a great experience.

Yeah it did seem to settle down so I was a little premature in calling support but the numbers were so extreme. With that said, it seems my headphone jack isn't working correctly. Im only getting sound out of my right earbud. I tried three different earbuds (one old enough that it predates the iPhone so I know its not a specific iPhone earbud).

The replacement hasn't arrived, it was supposed to arrive today, but when I logged onto VZW to check the status I see a notification that I had to accept some set of terms before it can get shipped.

I'm a little angry over that, because they emailed me the confirmation yet hidden in a little box on the left of the webpage I spotted this. Really, they couldn't email me this.

Anyways since my phone is working ok, other then the headphones, I can live with it. I'll be sure to check out the new one when it does eventually arrive.

I'll also try one or two more headphones to make sure its ok, maybe its a stuck pin and I can fix it with a paperclip
