It takes me at least a week to get the thing setup, thats not a bad thing, i always do a fresh install on a new phone, settings only take a few minutes, app downloads 20 minutes and job done. I hate restoring unless im updating etc and doing a full wipe. Same with desktop OS i prefer a clean install less to go wrong.
But why a week? because i like to customise each phone with its own unique look, so finding the right wallpaper, finding a compatible theme from the theme store, then finding a new replacemnt icon set. Chanign the widget layout and look to suit the theme Thats why it can take a while because you have a whole lot more control over personalization, i would take that any day over just being able to change the wallpaper. I may have a phone that 1 million others have but no two should ever look the same. My phone is personal to me as are yours to you, thats what i love about taking the time to setup a beautiful piece of hardware

One thing I love is how I can change it any way I want, I love how I can do a wallpaper or theme and even change the font, change icons, etc

I'm not going to lie, this potential battery issue has me teetering on the edge of returning it. Not because I necessarily think it is going to be a huge wide spread issue, but because it highlights something that I knew about but hadn't had to really think about happening in the time I would own it.
If something happens I can't just go to the store and get a new phone. The support issue is a big consideration for me, and I don't like the Note 7 so much more than the iPhone that it's a no brainer to deal with it. Tomorrow is my last day to return so I am really going to have to think about it.

I brought this up regarding the Nexus 6p. Whereas it was difficult to get the support I would expect from Google/Huawei.
Although there's not much of a store presence as Apple has provided for support. But I tend to think how they are handling this situation makes me believe that Samsung support will be on high alert going forward.
I enjoy the Note7... At this point I don't see anything Apple can do that will change my mind with the upcoming iPhone, as far as I know Apple will doubling down on camera. But I like the whole package of the Note7.

I can't stress how important after sales support is to apples success. Doesn't matter where you bought it from, either Apple directly or carriers, their direct service trumps others.
The Samsung issue could be a big deal. All the note 7s bought from various carriers, through carrier stores, retail stores like target, warehouse clubs etc it logistically could be a nightmare. What if you bought it secondhand through eBay, Craigslist, swappa? Sounds like a potential headache.

I was happy until they announced the global recall today... All note 7 phones sold around the world are being recalled. Only China is exempt because they are getting the beefed up model and uses a different brand battery

It really is disappointing... now, I'm checking the status of this situation to see how Samsung plans on doing this recall.
I know for sure they don't want to give users a choice between refund or replacement... there gonna be plenty of people taking the refund just to not be apart of it anymore.

As this is a new device there will be plenty of users who are still within their 'returns' period who may avail of simply doing that and waiting the whole situation out.

Hopefully Samsung aren't too strict, because those who imported devices and such could be in for a hell of a time ever getting their device replaced if Samsung insist they be returned to Samsung or carriers in applicable territories that they were originally purchased.
Likewise those who aveiled of 'upgrades' and sold them on privately - how will this affect customers who bought devices like this ?

Well, yeah... especially the users who came from the latest iPhones.
It's a bad timing for sure given that the upcoming iPhones will be announced next week. I initially sold my 6s Plus in preparation for the Note7, but a couple days back before this fiasco I picked up a 6s for a reasonable price on Craigslist.
Now, I'm just waiting it out to see what Samsung does... I know if I have to send in the device I'll have a backup phone for some that might not be the case.

Well this sucks, it took me close to a week to get this damn phone set up the way I wanted, being new to android and all. is there a icloud backup equivalent for android which puts your settings and apps, etc... back to where they were on a new phone? I would really hate to start from scratch after all the tinkering I've done on this thing.

I know there's a Samsung Cloud that will assist you in keeping your device backup, but I haven't tried it.
For me, I have disabled Samsung Cloud... since I didn't want it running in the background taking up precious memory. As much as I find this device to be awesome... battery life has been subpar, I try to remove as much packages that take up too much RAM that I don't necessarily want.
In reality they are saying less than .01% of the phones shipped are at risk but they want to make sure no customer is at risk. I actually praise them for this, Its a major task for just a small amount that are at risk. Anytime Apple has had issues they deny it for months before they do something. Samsung is getting ahead of this in 2 days
I'm cynical that they're doing this out of the goodness of their hearts. If there were a way to do great a limited recall, they would've done it.
Although it's interesting that the Chinese models aren't being recalled because the batteries used were Chinese made. The back of mine states Manufactured in China. Maybe I don't have an issue?

Honestly Apple would do the same if iPhones were being set on fire. Big difference from a fault to dangering people's lives.

As if one has anything to do with the other.
I am willing to bet Samsung will be giving everyone some kind of "Gift" due to the inconvenience as well. Whether its something as small as some sort of Samsung Gift Card or as nice as a VR Headset, I think Samsung is going to want to make customers happy for this

I still have the MicroSD card.. Haven't opened it yet was hoping to sell it. I'm doubtful I will up to this point, but I'll take a VR Headset over a Gift Card.
I already gotta Fast Wireless Dock... I picked up from Amazon. I just hope they get ahead of this before the announcement of the iPhone.

This is an important point that I forget each time I decide to try an android phone.
Apple could very well accidentally release a hand grenade phone like Samsung just did. The difference would be that I can just stroll into my local Apple Store and have the issues resolved there. As opposed to shipping it away to who knows where and waiting days.
Thing is, Every phone maker including Apple uses 3rd partys to make the batteries, so this could happen to any phone maker.

Im hoping you can go through your carriers, I read yesterday they were in talks with the carriers, so I hope I can just walk into my Verizon Store once the replacement phones are available and just swap it.
