Just an update... I returned my Note 7, tablet and watch today without any hassle. All fees were waived on all three products. I'll probably preorder the IP7+ in the morning.
Samsung's worst nightmare right here. Who knows how many others are doing the same thing.
You don't want to wait for the Note 7 model updates? Just be prepared for some significant changes, for the worst it looks like. I am in a similar boat with the S7 and iP7+, but I am leaning towards the better hardware.

So, ended up returning both Note 7s today as I realized I was more cautious about it going boom than actually enjoying it.
Back to the 6S+/Note5 and pre-ordered the 7+, especially with Note 7's unconfirmed replacement timeframe.

I might do the same thing. I ordered the IP7+ but that won't be here until the end of the month. It looks like the replacement Note 7 won't be here til the end of the month too. Might use JoD to get a Note 5 until the replacement N7s are here.
Are you guys returning it, or keeping it till the exchange unit comes in ?
Both my N7s are running great, except the occasional lag, so on one hand I don't wanna return it...but the thought of a possible satanic battery () is concerning.

I just sold my iPhone 6S plus that I barely used. Now I'm giving T-Mobile up to the 18th to have replacement Note 7 devices. If they don't, I'll be getting a iPhone 7 256gb. And I'll use some of the money I got from the 6S plus, and get the Apple watch 2. I already experienced Android wear and Samsung Tizen watches, but never owned an Apple watch yet.
I love my Note 7 but the damage is done. I just don't think it's smart from a consumer point of view to keep it even with the replacement. So, I'm going to exchange it for the iP7+. Figured I can sell my 6S+ and buy a nexus with the money or an Apple Watch.
It's interesting that the time frame is keeping some away. Will they have replacements soon, in October, never? I keep hearing different things. This couldn't have been more convenient for Apple to happen right before their preorder, I'm almost tempted to say there is some kind of subterfuge going on (I'm only KIDDING, think a spy thriller movie where an Apple spy breaks into Samsung and sabotages their battery technology).
But seriously, IMO this highlights the foolishness of having so many different versions of the same phone. I would say Apple avoids this, but even they split up the GSM/CDMA versions this time due to licensing. But if Samsung had the same version with all the radios included they could have responded to this MUCH much sooner. As it is no one really knows when their Note 7 will be replaced and have the Apple preorder dangling in front of them. A perfect storm.

Well considering how politically connected Tim Cook is he could request that the CPSC (Feds) drag their feet as long as possible before green lighting replacements. lol
I'm enjoying my new S7 edge although I'm still missing my Note 7.
On the bright side I hit 7 hours 18 mins of screen on time before I had to recharge it. 
Some are suggesting that the IMEI's of the recalled phones get blacklisted, much like a stolen phone would be. Not only would it be an enticement for someone using the phone to get it replaced, but it would be a deterrent to attempts to resell the recalled devices on sites like eBay and Swappa. I believe Samsung has an IMEI checker on their site, that could be used to determine recalled/not recalled devices.
Listening to the AndroidCentral podcast from last week, they were saying replacements could be available as early as Monday (tomorrow). Samsung has made changes to the packaging/labeling on the box to indicate the non-recalled phones.
Also, since the recall in the US is now official, the FAA is saying you can't even bring the device on the plane, even if you intend to follow the previous suggestion of turning it off and not charging it while in flight. How they'll enforce that, especially once the new ones start hitting people's hands, I'm not really sure.
Reading tmonews, I gathered that TMobile is offering any device as a loaner while Note 7 users await a replacement. Tempted to get the S7/edge because iOS is just...b.o.r.i.n.g Might end up cancelling my iP7+ pre-order since I won't get my device before November anyway!

Also, recall isn't official until it's listed on CPSC which is what the FAA references for recalls.
The week before last I kept reading replacements would be available "as soon as next week", which would have been last week. Has anyone received a replacement? I don't believe anyone has, and retailers don't have stock of the new stuff. That's why I would take any promise with a grain of salt.
Seems like the IMEI checker is only for China, Hong Kong, and Macau.

^ I actually should post there more than here. During my 2.5 week banishment (stay on target!), I read that thread and thought to myself I like the Fandroids over there. We feel the same about iOS. But I post all over GSM Arena and YouTube too, so I really don't have time.
I was an iPhone fan back in 2007-2008 and posting here since 2010. Most of those Android Central posters are probably still in their honeymoon phase with the Note7. Give it time for complacency and hating the lag on it as time goes on. Similar to folks getting excited for a matte black or jet black iPhone 7 before boredom settles in after a few days or weeks that this 7 is no different than their previous 6 or 6s.
I say if you enjoy it now, stay with Note7 but do exchange it for the newer one so FAA wouldn't get on your case. Although that would suck if the replacement gives you problems than your old one. I am pretty ticked off about that FAA stuff since I am traveling twice within two months. I am also a bit torn between Note7 v iPhone 7.

I was nearly 100% sure going Note7 before the recall, my 2.5 week off-topic banishment here, and those lame DA BOMB or Samsung dropped DA BOMB on ua puns from people who never owned it. Now I am less than 50% for either 7 and just thinking to wait for 8.
The iPhone 7 has advantages over Note7 and really did consider one after the announcement but I just can't live using iTunes again which crashes my computer just to delete a photo album or mass delete media files. I do alot of transferring files. A file manager app is very important to me. I haven't closed the door completely on any of them though. But Plan C looks like iPhone 7 although that can change every hour. Plan A and C is Note7 and PS4 slim..
They all are cash grabs for something better in the near future. We are all under the spell from pretty designs and good marketing. All part of the planned obsolescence cycle. Just try to keep what you already enjoy. Grass isn't always greener on the other side.

Then the information I read was incorrect. This was the site I was referring to, note that they did a strikethrough on the recommendation text and indicate the FAA had moved to the device being banned.

I am returning it today to Verizon. I am still undecided: Galaxy S7 Edge or Moto Z Play. While I love Samsung Pay and the awesome Galaxy camera, I hate the Samsung home button. The Moto Z Play seems to have to one of the best battery life (lives?) of an Android phone today. I find myself not caring too much about QHD resolution on the Note 7 and often use MID power saving mode (reducing it to 1080p). And the Moto Z Play is a lot cheaper.
what about the Z Force Droid Edition? I believe it's a faster, better variant of the Play edition? I could be wrong though. Otherwise, there's not much out there in Android land (available at Verizon) I'd consider outside the current Galaxy lineup

Thanks for the suggestion, but I thought about it; current reviews deem the Z Play powerful enough and that the main differences between the Z Force and Z Play are 1) higher screen resolution and 2) Shatterproof.
But Z Play is only about $408, while the Force is almost double the price at $720. I'm happy with 1080p and (certainly the Z Play will have better battery life than the Force because of this and less power hungry SOC) and I'm ok not having Shatterproof.
If only the new Nexuses are available now...
Yeah, that's why I felt a large percentage of iPhone users would have gone to Note7 if this recall did not happen. Samsung would have heavily marketed against the no audio jack iPhone 7, granted... I use Bluetooth and could careless about the audio jack but nevertheless it would had been the go-to argument.
And the noise is so strong from users who just have a dislike for Samsung... Apple is rejoicing now for sure... Samsung practically took a nose dive.
I enjoy my Note7... Trying to implement the S Pen on a daily basis. And the amounts of features backed into it along with having a awesome design.
It's really unfortunate that this happen.
