I keep finding that no note taking app is perfect yet.

Notability is great, but the handwriting is not searchable (even if exported into Evernote, since it is vector graphics).
Goodnotes is great, but the interface (mainly note organization) is lacking.
Onenote is nice and has a great free flow structure of notes, but lacks several features if you do not have access to a Windows machine and has no zoomed in window when writing.

Is anyone aware of an app that would have a good interface, handwriting search and possibly the unstructured paper format of onenote?

Writing on glass is definitely a weird experience. I feel like my handwriting is sloppier on the iPad than on paper and pencil. I have a habit of "dragging" my writing utensil across the writing surface. With an actual pen and pencil, the "connecting" marks usually don't show up as much as it does on the iPad. It's definitely going to take me awhile to adjust, but I think it's manageable. I haven't really been handwriting my notes in the past few years, so I guess that could attribute to my atrocious handwriting. haha.

Also, I feel kind of hesitant to bring the iPad into class due to possible distractions.
It is pretty big...
I was thinking of disguising it in a case like this or similar: http://www.padandquill.com/featured-products/contega-linen-case-for-ipad-pro.html
Any thoughts on the case?

It's not bigger or more distracting than that guy in front of you on the 17" Dell laptop that's surfing Facebook ;-)

The iPad is laying down and looks just like a notebook/piece of paper as it is. I've been using it in class without so much as a single glance at it.

But if you want a case - go nuts!

Salutations!

Not sure if this has been raised elsewhere/here - my searching skills appear to be lacking today - but just how noisy is the Pencil??

In Notability, using my Adonit Jot Pro (the one with the little plastic disc on the tip), the audio recording always picks up the clickety-clack of me 'writing'... It's mostly ok - but very noticeable when you're trying to hear what was said by someone quite far away from the recorder/iPad...

Down in my neck of the woods, we're STILL waiting for stock of the Pencil, so haven't even had a chance to play with one, much less buy one. So very curious as to whether one can still 'hear' the Pencil whilst recording in Notability? Would be super were that not the case!

I haven't recorded while using the pencil but I can hear it while writing. I can say it is the best I've used for writing though. I've owned all the Adonit, but the one you use, plus a Wacom Bamboo 2 fine point and paper 53. The Apple pencil out performs them for note taking.

Thanks... The Jot Pro was criticised by some/known for being noisy (relatively speaking) – unavoidably so – due to its design: A hard plastic disc, making contact with glass.

I'm trying to keep my expectations down, so as to (rather) be pleasantly surprised, than disappointed - but really hope I find the Pencil to live up to the hype! :)

That said - presumably the tip of the Pencil is not the equivalent of a hard plastic disc? Is there some 'give' there? What is it actually made of? Similar to the orange/brown/tan plastic cone of a Bic ballpoint pen (the part immediately above the ballpoint-part)? I guess I'm asking the impossible - might be difficult for someone to describe - but quite curious this side...

I couldn't tell you what it's made of exactly. It feels like a hard rubber. It does make a noise when writing. I do have a heavy hand when writing. The one thing, besides the lack of lag, that I really find I like is that there isn't that additional clicking noise that are there on my Adonit "pens" they had a lot of give, so with that they were quite noisy. I have read that a screen protector has helped reduce the noise of the Apple pen hitting the glass, but I have no proof of this. I just know for me that this will be the last stylus I purchase until this one breaks. Hopefully it will last a few years with only having to change the tip occasionally. For me the Apple pencil is pretty cool and useful compared to the others I have. I am using this everyday compared to the others, which I would just revert back to my finger... Good luck

It is fairly noisy (it's essentially hard plastic... so it "taps"). I've done recordings with Notability and the tapping was definitely distracting. I'm actually considering a small extrrnal microphone that won't pick up the tapping as much.

That said: it shouldn't stop you from buying the Pencil... it is INCREDIBLE. A perfect writing experience.

Appreciate the response. Won't put me off in the slightest. Was simply curious.

Had a go at using the Jot Pro in Notability. Palm rejection worked quite well. Would occasionally not allow me to write with hand resting, and sometimes triggered something that would drop me out of Notability, back to the home screen(??), but still - much improved.

Now for the wait... Really looking forward to giving it a whirl!

I've just tried recording audio for the first time and then playing back.

Quiet hotel room, 3 'squares' of volume was enough to hear my talking and could only hear the pencil with strained voice. I've attached the note file if anyone wants to import into their notability and see (assuming I can attach a .note here)

I can't :) sorry...

I didn't when I got $200 off the 128 gb iPad pro with 4g from Verizon. That said I liked that I could buy insurance for $10 a month and be covered longer than AppleCare. They also had pencils in stock. Of course I did have to add a line, and I paid for it outright. (From selling my MBP)

Has anyone noticed a change ?

I took notes today on notability with recording. I had this concern prior to it. I purposely took my notes and was aware of writing "softly". I could hear the tapping of the pencil still, but I didn't find it distracting. Maybe because my professor was right in front of me.

Did you have to sign a contract to get this deal?

I didn't sign any contracts. I did do a 12 month installment plan. I got the $150 off plus the free apple pencil through the phone by suggesting that they do so. The manager on the phone told me I was a loyal customer because I had 9 lines on my phone. I figured that it wouldn't hurt to try to hint him to give a discount and it worked out for me. Since I got the Apple pencil for free, I'm thinking of purchasing another one. One to keep in my backpack and one to keep on my desk. :)

Yes, the flow seems to be better. I didn't notice this in the beta either. For me Whink offers the best flow but Notability has improved with this release.
