If apple doesn't announce iOS 7
I will move to android and lose all hope in apple
They have billions and they have no excuses to delay anything. If they disapoint
It's doom for apple
I believe that Apple is very aware of the general enthusiasts desire for a fresh set of features to be included in iOS 7.

Yet that said, it's very difficult to guess just what might become of WWDC. It seems they've been so busy in so many different areas, that iOS 7 could easily be put off, at least in terms of public introduction, till some later date.

Knowing full well that they can get by with anything, has been Apple's hallmark for years. They do whatever they want, whenever they want. An inviable position to be in, yet one that most certainly rubs some of us the wrong way. It's all part of being an Apple enthusiast with a willingness to accept their truth as they meter it out.

At the end of the day, they have been left with Steve's legacy of arrogance, and a royal attitude of superiority over normal human beings. As such they don't need to do anything outside of their comfort zone.

In other words, they know the customers will wait as long as it takes. No matter how much people may despise waiting, there's no doom in this picture whatsoever. Apple's got full control over too many wallets of those that live in AppleLand :D

I JUST GOT AN ULTIMATE rMBP in the mail.

i7 2.7 quad core, 16 gigs ram, 768 flash hardrive.

SHOULD I RETURN IT??? TODAY IS THE LAST DAY.

GOT IT FOR $200 off refurb.

OPINIONS!!!! plz...

I'm looking at a 5 year investment.

Thanks

Original Poster here...

I think I'm going to return.

Waiting may yield...

--newer (haswell) processors
--potential 802.11 ac
--potential bigger flash drive option???
--potential OSX 7???

That sounds significant, since I can probably wait...

....
May I ask you why?

Let me explain then? Beside having Retina and SSD, rMBP IS a lesser machine in some ways. It's an disposable iPad in disguise of a Mac.

  • Pairing retina resolution with midrange GPU like 650M or Intel HD Graphics is not a good decision. You have a good screen but you can't do anything intensive with it either. Sad.
  • You only get expensive or low capacity SSD options instead of cheaper HDD or hybrid solution. Even if you insist pure SSD, it's not really that expensive nowadays. Meanwhile Apple still charges us much more than it should.
  • Onboard, soldered RAM while it's the cheapest and (used to be) easiest way to make your laptop performs a bit better. Not only it shorten the Macbook lifespan, also it requires you to pay (unnecessary) top dollars for RAM sticks from Apple, should you want more.
  • Replace something out of warranty on rMBP is super expensive and uneconomical. You can't even replace the battery or built-in trackpad without buying the whole bottom case, which is unnecessary?

See? .. it's a lesser machine in many ways than cMBP.

Just curious where hardware fits into the statement below? Apple may show off some Mac updates because they don't warrant their own event. But clearly WWDC will be about iOS and OS X.

Apple Worldwide Developers Conference to Kick Off June 10 in San Francisco

“We look forward to gathering at WWDC 2013 with the incredible community of iOS and OS X developers,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “Our developers have had the most prolific and profitable year ever, and we’re excited to show them the latest advances in software technologies and developer tools to help them create innovative new apps. We can’t wait to get new versions of iOS and OS X into their hands at WWDC.”

What I'm interested to know is will they kill of the extra GPU in the retina rMBP 15". Concern for me given they hobbled the Mac mini 2012 this way...

WHAT glare? You mean the glare that no one outside of a tech blog has any problem with? I'm so sick of hearing this elitist complaint. It's like, "I can see it...but I don't expect you to."

Can't wait until matte displays are not an option for you anymore, so we can stop hearing about it. You'll either buy something else or finally shut up about it.

Nice! Passive aggressive much?

Just because someone else's gripe is irrelevant to YOU doesn't mean their an 'elitist'. Good grief. Here's the deal: If you've got an inferiority complex over something that I CAN plainly see and something you simply can't — you're the one with the problem. Not me!

Have a look at the photos from Anadtech (sorry, it's a "tech blog"). But the proof's in the pudding. Look at image #4! I see a big ol' reflection of the photographer. Oh, he's outdoors? What about the very next shot, indoors? The soft box is readily apparent. It's not the emperor's new clothes pal!

Maybe you're talking about the Mac community at large that doesn't have "any problem with" it. Great! But I'm sorry, that "group" is not necessarily a bunch of power users. It's folks that want and "need" the shiniest newest Apple toy because it's thin and pretty!! Who cares! That's fluff! I'm talking about power users! Professional photographers! Do you have any morsel of an idea about how many of this particular sect know EXACTLY what I'm talking about?!

By the way, point me to five high-end monitors, aimed at photo pros and graphics professionals that sport a big fat shiny piece of (reflective) glass on the front! NEC, Dell, HP, EIZO, anyone? Good luck with that. I forgot. Apple can do no wrong... and those that claim they have are idiotic blasphemers. Yep, heard it all before!

So when an item goes out of production it suddenly turns obsolete? You do realize what obsolete means right?

When I sit in Starbucks with my MBP and people no longer realise that I have the latest rMBP, that is when my product is obsolete.

I bet you meant that "obsolete" here in terms of product becoming useless to the customer.

I work for a manufacturing company and when we say that we are going to obsolete a product we mean just that: we will stop producing it. We still support it and customers can buy replacement parts for 5yrs after obsolescence date.

I kept saying it was possible. Then Apple released it, and it suddenly became possible, and everybody seemed to immediately forget everything they were saying about the impossibility of a retina display on a Mac. Now, people keep insisting on the impossibility of a retina MacBook Air. It's the same story all over again. People have short memory. Just look at last year's posts here at MacRumors forums, and you'll see.

Have you opened a rMBP up? It's batteries all the way down.

Except neither has a Retina display.

The laptop also comes with a a bulky drive.

But really, great work.

Why do you need a Retina display?

The "bulky drive" also comes in handy for wedding photographers to burn a video DVD for the newly weds. Perfect.

Nobody is handing you a few grand only to have you palm them their files and digital assets on a cheap USB flashdrive.

For the record, I absolutely hate matte screens. They look so washed-out and lifeless. Looks like 1992 technology.

Woa, wait a minute here. How is the video DVD not "cheap" in comparison to the flashdrive? DVDs are significantly lower in cost, and unless you're messing around with special DVDs, are easier to damage through mishandling. I would honestly feel safer transporting digital assets and files on those "cheap" USB flashdrives than a DVD...

I also realize I'm not the person you asked that question to, but "I" value a retina screen over an optical drive because I like to treat my poor eyes nicely, and I rarely, if ever, use my optical drive for anything.

Mac Pro

Remember how we were promised a new Mac Pro by Tim last year? I think that the Pro and iOS 7 will share the spotlight and be the two big announcements of the event. Considering the laptops were updated at the beginning of this year it would seem redundant to update them yet again. Im thinking Mac Pro and iOS 7 to be main events at WWDC 2013, and new faster laptops by end of this year - beginning of 2014.:D

Irresponsible Reporting

This is not news, nor is it a rumor. It is just the best guess of an analyst. Sure he may have done some analysis of the supply chain and investigated rumors, but what about telling your readers about his success with past predictions.

Ending the headline with a question mark is lame. How about a headline starting with "Analyst predicts...".

As for my best guess, a laptop refresh is hardly anything to hang a keynote on. Apple may refresh their laptops, but it won't be the big story. I'm confident that Apple will also announce iOS 7, just as they have announced new iOS versions the past six years at WWDC. I'm hoping there will be something else, as well, but I won't speculate lest MacRumors reports on it...

Now that is the funniest thing I have ready all day! Thanks for the laugh, this place has needed it lately! :D

By "Non-Retina MacBook Pro to Continue", I'm pretty sure that will mean that the 15" will get discontinued and either both or just the high-end 13" will remain.

Apple is obviously feeling the need to be much more careful and gradual with this particular MacBook Pro design changeover and given that they will have given us a full year or a full two revs stay of execution on the 15", they will see that as more than enough of a buffer for those customers (of which I am proudly one of and grateful for that decision).

The 13" MacBook Pro is their best-seller, and Apple has been known to stagger design changeovers with these machines (or their MacBook/12" PowerBook G4 equivalents) longer than all others. It would make sense if that one continues, especially given that this machine has retained both of its models whereas the 15" non-retina only retained its low-end model. Otherwise, it is obvious that Apple is going to move to discontinue all non-retina models before too long. Sad, but true.

And yet I am sure you hate AMOLED screens on Samsung phones even though iPhone's LCD screens (1992 technology) look so washed-out compared to Samsung screens, right?
