Re: breath in, breath out -- it's just a tool

The reason we "PC people" don't get so worked up is that the machine is just a tool, just a part of our lives. Our self-identity is with other parts of our lives (work, hobbies, sports, family) - it's not tied up with a "brand-name experience" with the company that manufactured our computer (or, like Apple, assembled our computer out of commodity and 3rd party parts).

just a tool? so are cars. why are there car nuts out there who live and breath cars?
so tell me. all the bmw nuts out there who have car clubs based soley on bmw's, and live and breathe everything bmw, and love to hear rumors of what might be coming out with the new m3, you're telling me they should not do that because they're just tools and they're name brands?
people have different hobbies. the people on this board are into apple computers. this is what they live and breathe. this IS their hobby. just because you don't see does not mean it's not something to get worked up over.
you sound like a pretty closed minded person.

oh!! so you're telling me that pc manufacturers are different?! try looking in a dell computer. read what the brand names are on the different devices. same with compaq, sony, hp, gateway, emachines, they all do it.

or the reason is that the pc world never innovates. there's nothing to get excited about.
remember back when amd and intel were competing to see who would get to the 1 GHz mark first? oh boy did the pc world keep it's eye on that. the tension at that time was just like it is when apple is about to produce something new. the thing is, nothing ever exciting happens in the pc world.

and apparently this is not your hobby so your opinion doesn't really matter!
