The point of this device is that it is small. If you want something bigger, go with the Touch.

Sometimes smaller is better.

In this case, the iPod Nano. The only reason this iPod Nano is favored instead of the 3rd generation iPod Nano is it's touchscreen. Click-wheel please!

this year's iPod nano will be iPod shuffle next year

just wait out guys; 12 more months!

apple will rectify the mistake like they did with Shuffle.

we need a $149 iPod touch next year! $79/$99 iPod shuffle (aka current nano) next year

It is always neat to see just what is inside these type of devices. When you think about it mp3 players (or whatever) are one of the great new inventions over the past fifteen years. Go Apple. . .love my new iPod Classic (third iPod over the past eight years (pretty good record).

Bring back the clickwheel. Touchscreens aren't the answer for everything, Steve-o.

+1

I miss the 5th gen nano already.. All I wanted was more capacity and a little better camera for the same price or maybe a little more. 32GB for 179$, 64GB for 229$ or 249$ for 5th gen nano with a 720p camera would be perfect :mad::mad::mad:

Apple has found value in starting products with slim feature lists and gradual addition/activation as early bugs are worked out and customer habits are discerned. May not be ideal for us feature-hungry geeks, but smart for common customers who want "just works" and get pleasant surprises later.

So true. I take this place as mostly a combination of circus side show and peanut gallery. That is interesting, amusing but no valuable opinion. This is slightly one step above the significance of talk you hear at Fandom conventions.

iPod Mini Touch... ;)

It's about SIZE people. I have an iPhone 4 (have had them all).. I put most of my music on there... but try running in the summer with just mesh shorts with an iPhone... you have to hold it. Or I could use an older gen Nano that I had... but you need a lame armstrap.

I got the new Nano today and ran a few miles with it. Clipped it to the waist of mesh shorts... can't even feel it there. It's like running with just headphones. EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED. People complaining for the old clickwheel or more functions... just doesn't make sense. Clickwheels are going to double the size and weight. If you want something with features... get the Touch... or an iPhone. I think this product makes perfect sense. I had no plans whatsoever of getting an iPod... but this was too hard to pass up for exercise use.

Only downside to me is the screen. I expected 220 ppi to look better than this. Not just the pixels but the contrast ratio and color are pretty bad. I'm sure I'm spoiled by my iPhone 4 screen, but still. That being said... not a big deal... it's not something I'll be staring at like I would with the iPhone. It's built fantastic though.

I think this is a transition product line (which I don't totally mind to be honest).

I think next year the classic and the shuffle will be discontinued, the nano will replace the shuffle, the iPod touch will replace the classic (memory increase needed of course) and the iPod mini (or some other fancy name) will be back, being a smaller version of the iPod touch.

This will give Apple:
- nano: basically a shuffle with a screen and therefore a product with an actual potential upgrade path in terms of features;
- mini: a new exciting gadget people will salivate for (I still do over the first incarnation of the black and white iPod nano!);
- touch: finally the classic replacement it was meant to be from day one.

Plus, Steve will be able to say they only have touch products in their portable gadgets line.
Incidentally this would happen exactly 10 years after the introduction of the first iPod.. Imagine the revolutionary here, boom there catchphrases.. :eek:
