Really?
How is it old school being able to look at you phone from across the room and see if you had a message/call.
What would it hurt for Apple to add a tiny LED for this function?
For those who it would offend, you could turn it off but I am betting a multicolored LED that could be programmed for multiple functions would be very tempting, even for those who think it is old school.
Just remember how so many were against a 4" iPhone screen and now love it.
A 4.7" iPhone 6 will darn near kill some of you, but it is coming!![]()
I had no mention of GS in my post....it was entirely limited to iPhone...the fact it doesn't have a LED screen so lighting some pixels = impossible
And no, I still don't understand the point of it even after all the explanations in this thread.
I hardly ever use the one on my HTC One. I find it more annoying than useful.
If you can't see how some people in the world would like that convenience then you are just being stubborn.
Had a great tweak on my old blackberry that changed the notification led light for different correspondence (ie. email, text, etc.) and it was fantastic. If you carry your phone upright in your shirt/jacket pocket you can see the light flash and know what you are getting. Aside from more storage, maybe a bigger screen, this is pretty much the ONLY hardware feature i want/miss from any other smart phone out there.
This is an excellent analogy and a very good summary of the issue. It's like Push vs Fetch.
If you have an LED blinking subtly to tell at a glance that you have a message, it's pushing that message to you (constantly making it aware at any glance).
If you have to pick up and wake your phone to check it, that's like fetching notifications from your phone.
I think it would be functional and look nice to have an LED behind the home button, although all chances of that have gone out the window with the touch ID. Still, an LED wouldn't hurt anyone.
Yeah, I like this idea. I liked the LEDs on the last generation of webOS hardware-- relatively subtle and tasteful compared to the "old school" blinking colored LED. It pulsated rather than blinked. (the thin white horizontal strip below the screen.)... it should pulsate slowly, like a MacBook in StandBy. The color of the LED should be white...

Perhaps something "new," like instead of a notification light that blinks, perhaps a quick flash of a ribbon across the screen every minute or so while it's asleep. I'm sure batter drain would be minimal and of course you can turn it off.
