FYI...my first input into MacRumors...I'm a near Mac user planning to venture out on Friday for my purchase of an IMac G5 20''...honestly I am looking forward to it but a bit apprehensive all the same.

Here's the best info I've received on this sale. The sales guy I spoke with recommended I come back to purchase the unit on Friday due to the sale. Now, I can't be sure he really knew what was going on or what would be on sale but the implication is that the IMac would be a better deal on Friday...so here's hoping!

Welcome to the fold :)

p.s. isn't it pleasantly odd to read so many 'welcome' greetings simply because you are buying a computer? :)

UK not included?

Special day of shopping, looks like the UK online store is not included, I can'tfind this add on the UK site anyway........Darn it.....Come on Apple UK, stop oohh and aaah over your nice new store, it's just too far to drive for me, 4 hours if I'm lucky, so get working allready, we need more Apple coverage in the UK,both in retail outlets as in media, where are the iPod adds on TV for example, on CNN they are almost around he clock, I do not even remember seeing one in the UK..... Let's get Apple and the Mac of the ground here in UK and europe, the time is there to start the assault on the MS dominance here! Let the iPod be your guide!

Let's talk about what we see in the background.

I spy with my little eyes...
- an iPod.
- one of those dock speakers.
- a digital camera.
- some wires.
- a mysterious item at the bottom and center.

So, can anybody give me a ride to Towson Town Center or Bethesda Mall in Maryland? Any takers? Anyone? ;)

Well, it's rolled past 00:00 here. Nothing special.

I did notice a newish (I don't check much) 'Special deals' section, but it seems to have all old stuff - just consolidated all the deals which were at one time scattered all over. Pretty sensible idea.. Maybe we'll get something new when America wakes up in a few hours.

Question...........Can you get both? 20% off?? EDU + The Sale Price???

No, you can't. You have to chose either one. In this case, they are both 10%. EDU is a stand alone discount, and cannot be combined with anything else.

Thanks for the welcome...still trying to determine if I'm joining a cult or if my blinders are being pulled off! Just hope all the rumor adds up to something special tomorrow...is it Christmas yet?!

Any opinions out there regarding the IMac G5 20''? I don't really want to spring for the Power Mac 1.8 dual plus display but still waffling on whether I should do just that and use my current monitor until I find a deal on a 20'' Cinema HD...

Keep in mind that Apple is located in Sacremento, and they usualy update on PT rather than eastern time...

Cupertino, actually. ;) But we won't beat you for that one.

Hey, east coast of the US -- let us know what kind of deals the Apple store has going on. It looks like this might be a US-only thing, so we're counting on you to report back ASAP. :)

Central Time Zone

Yea I'm thinking when midnight hits I won't see anything cuz of the PT zone. Damn u silicon valley damn u... BTW, tomorrow's discount might mean a new imac at my apartment. If its just 10 percent and not stackable with the edu discount then I can't do it tho... also the imac needs to have 128 vid mem, thats my only complaint, or at least an option to upgrade it when purchasing! :)

Hope to be part of the mac community within the next 24 hrs

Hi guys,

Season's Greetings from Mumbai, India. I'm Yogesh and I'm planning to buy a mac portable at that much hyped "sale" on the 26th. My sis who is in the US will buy it for me.

I need some advice. Should I buy an ibook or a 12" powerbook? I'm going to use the notebook for normal stuff, surfing the net, creating pdfs, docs etc.

I ask coz I personally like the powerbook's looks. But does it make sense spending the extra moolah at this point? The ibook and powerbook specs are more or less the same right now, right??

I cant wait until Jan 10 (for the new powerbooks) coz my sister's coming back to India on Dec 25.

My budget is USD 2,000. I'm thinking of buying the 12" ibook, with 768mb ram and 60GB HDD + a 20GB ipod. What dya guys think? Smart move?? Is this the perfect machine for me??? I dont want be stuck with a painfully slow machine.

Apple is virtually non-existent in India and their resellers are just out to make a quick buck. Your advice is much appreciated!

Cheers,
Yogesh

Looking at the back of my iPod too much :D

Don't you know the world revolves around curpertino? It's not the 26th for one more hour....

But they MIGHT not update the site for a little while, but it would be to their benifit to update it as soon as possible so people like me should know which mall to goto. The one less crowded, or the one with the apple store.

Details of the Sale!!

Woo!

From Apple's newly-updated site:

Shop Now and Save.

If you’re brave enough to shop today, you deserve a break. A price break. So today only — Friday, November 26 — discover big savings on a collection of our favorite gifts: the gorgeous iMac G5, our complete iPod selection, speakers, accessories, software and more.

Okay guys, I'm going in (the online Apple Store)! If I'm not back in 5 minutes to report details, it's probably a really damn good sale, so get to apple.com!! :)

From the Apple website, not sure if this is the end update or not, but here is what is posted (different from yesterday from what I recall):

That is what the site is posting in the little pricetag image...but I cannot seem to get any different prices on actual products from the online store. Can anyone else verify this or shed some new light on the subject?

Okay, Wait Until Morning

Ok, sorry everybody.

It doesn't seem like the sale is online -- it must be in-store only.

Here's the teaser link, which doesn't at all imply that the sale is in-store only. However, a look around the site shows everything at regular prices.

Online Hope

Well there is still hope it seems. The line right under what we both posted is this:

Shop Online.
Explore our holiday gift lists to take advantage of big savings. Buy online now or call 1-800-MY-APPLE today.

So that at least looks like it is implying online purchase sales, which is really cool.

It won't be the 26th here in CA for another 15 minutes, so maybe we should wait just a wee bit more? ;)

discounts

the discounts are there only on the stuff in that holiday gift section, add the stuff to your cart and it shows the promo....around 10% but can't be used with edu discount

So far I see $101 off on all iMac G5s, $21 off on all iPods and the AirPort Express for $98 (which is a good deal). And the deals are not good in combination with the EDU discounts.

Update 1: I also see .Mac for $68.95 as well.

Unless they are still rolling out the sale, that seems to be about it. It's odd that all iMac G5s and iPods have the exact same discount ($101 and $21 respectively) whether you're getting the least expensive or most expensive models. It's also difficult to find what's on sale without doing a lot of searching because most of the items on the holiday lists are not on sale.

Update 2: Ok, they are still rolling it out because now they have a full list of all items on sale under the new updated Holiday 2004 gift lists (Mac Gift List and iPod Gift List). Make sure to clear your browser cache if the new updated gift lists don't show up at first.

iPod Savings

For the iPod mini it's an 8.4% savings (21/249) and for the 20GB iPod it's a 7% savings (21/299). So it's less than the rumored 10%, but still nice.

"Save over $100 when you purchase aniMac G5 today" = a $101 discount

a little dissapointing, don't you think?
