Eh. You should see some of those girls in the classes.

The image of an old librarian comes to mind. Apparently, they don't grow into it. They come in that way!

Although there are one or two cute ones... ;)

My GF would kill me if she knew I posted that.

I mean guy librarians. I am a girl. :p

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5A347 Safari/525.20)

I was not worried about this "issue" when it first came to light and I am not worried about it now, as already stated it only affects a certain batch in certain configurations, my MacBook Pro works as well as it did the day that I removed it from it's packaging, and I have faith that Apple would offer a replacement program even if these NVIDIA GPUs were all defective.

Is you're GF a cranky old librarian? :p

She's a Communication major who was having major problems finding work in that field. Still found nothing so now she is working as a file clerk in a law firm.

Well there is nothing wrong finding the same sex attractive. ;)

True; if you swing that way. For me, not so much. I do have a few friends who do. They are plenty happy. Just not for me. [/QUOTE]

Now that your GF should kill you for.
If she read computer forums, she might. But she knows I'm happy and not going anywhere. After 4 years, you stop really caring about dumb things like this.

I wonder how many % here are shemales hmm..

Depends on how many members and how what you consider to be a "he-she." Wow. This forum really is using my degrees. (The other one is in Psychology.)

The total population statistic is something like 1 in 70,000. Now how many of those are mac users and use macrumors.com? Maybe 1 in 250,000? How many members are there?

Haha this thread just got interesting.

No you are right and took a good guess. I bet 90% of the members here are guys.

Tell me about it. I have one person yelling about my use of citations, another saying my GF is going to hunt me down. I'm sure this will be moved at some point since we're WAY off topic too.

Oh and the librarian from Buffy did a lot for male librarians. I know I have an older friend who is a librarian. My Mom was so thrilled to meet a male librarian. Seriously, she was ecstatic.

So how about hose GPUs? LMAO

Just waiting to see if any other sources/articles states the truth or getting closer to the nvidia crisis or if nvidia/apple will announce anything. Other than that Librarians are swell.

I have some for you. I'm posting URLs because its 1:15 am and I'm not that thrilled with APA's guidelines for websites. (seriously people, put your name on what you write on the web!)

I wouldn't be buying Nvidia or AMD stock right now. They are being sued on multiple fronts. Something about DDR, DDR2 and DDR3.
I personally love this quote from this article:

"I am against you hiding information from the public. If we get to summary judgement in this case, nothing will be under seal." Turning to the prosecution's lawyer William Isaacson, Alsup said: "[I don't care] if it is under seal and it is the recipe for Coke, you have my permission to blurt it out."

All I've gotta say is LMAO!

Another lawsuit:
http://www.atomicmpc.com.au/article.asp?CIID=116725

How many class actions will they have against them at one time? I'm sure this GPU stuff will bring another.

Next up is the Inquirer article. I like this one. Take the source as a grain of salt, but there are some interesting stuff in here. Mainly the charge that Nvida knew a year ago. Now I bought my MBP a a month again. If this article is true, I'll be joining in that upcoming class action.

Nvida is praying that they will be allowed to make chips for the Nehlem boards.

And this one we've all seen:

librarians 4 change 08 :D
It would be nice if my Floridian vote didn't count for half that of other people's. Why not just count mine as 2/3's that of votes from other states?

"If you haven't been sued by RAMBUS for something, you're not a real technology company"

ATI settled with them a while ago, which makes me think that Nvidia can win since they're fighting it. Interesting stuff for sure!

"Rambus appears to be staking a claim against Nvidia while the graphics company still has some assets."

That has got to be a scary thought for Nvida stakeholders.

It's a shame about Nvidia. I've used their chips since I moved from dedicated graphics. Now that I think about it, my 8600 GTS in my old desktop made the case almost sear my hand. Wonder if that is because of the same issue. I know I had to under clock the RAM speed and GPU about 200mhz to be able to run anything without crashing the card..

Now that I'm thinking about it, why would Nvidia put aside that much money if it's a minor problem?

If this problem is actually as large as many people think, then that amount of money they set aside will just be a drop in the bucket compared to the actual cost to deal with this issue.

Maybe it goes deep enough where Nvidia had a mole and knew that RAMBUS will sue.. so they put aside the 200 million for the "so called gpu problems" so that they can get ready for court. ;)

Well that raises another question. What is the proper way to fix this? Replace a card with another, same defective, card? Underclock- not feasible because the consumer is not getting the performance that was paid for. Fan control will kill battery life.

The only thing I can honestly think of is to replace it with either a non-defective 8600. That would need a new production procedure and cost a lot.

Or

Replace the Logic Boards with one of the 9000 series. Hopefully that will be produced with a new, non-defective method. That would have the added benefit of making the affect people feel better about it and possibly buy another nvidia card. (I'm still up in the air about my next card.)

I think the nvidia g84 gpu will be replaced with the fixed version with new asic circuitry/newer substrate? They have to because one of the things that they told arstechnica was that the current production uses a more robust material in the diode.

"This is a serious charge to level at any company, and we contacted NVIDIA for additional information. The company's response first affirms its intent to stand behind its customers and repair any and all notebooks that experience field failures. It then states:

The issue is limited to a few notebook chips only; we have not seen and don't expect to see this issue on any NVIDIA-based desktop systems.
Only a very small percentage of the notebook chips that have shipped are potentially affected, and the problem depends on a combination of environmental conditions, configuration, and usage model.
We continue to work closely with our partners and have taken the necessary steps to ensure that all NVIDIA chips currently in production do not exhibit the problem.
As a result, it is very unlikely that your NVIDA based notebook product is affected."

I know this is old news but I thought this was interesting,

"NVIDIA Responsible for Nearly 30% of Vista Crashes in 2007
Posted by Adam Frucci at 6:43 AM on March 28, 2008
It's pretty easy to blame Microsoft for the buggy experiences many users of Vista have had, but they aren't the only culprits in this mess of an OS. No, it turns out that NVIDIA's craptastic drivers have been responsible for a whopping 28.8% of all Vista crashes. Yes, nearly 1/3rd of every single Vista crash was caused by NVIDIA drivers, and that includes all the computers out there that, you know, don't have an NVIDIA graphics card."
