I went from the 5S to the 6+ when they came out last year. The screen is amazing, it really is great having access to a huge display all of the time. The battery life is outstanding as you'd expect, mine regularly goes two days without charging under normal use. Reachability is kind of lame and doesn't work half the time, the exclusive 6+ features are pretty much ******** - don't let them factor into your decision. The extra money you pay over the standard 6/6S is for the screen and battery, nothing else. My main issue is usability, I have huge hands and still can't reach the top corner of the screen. Wouldn't bother me so much if reachability was reliable or if it dragged notifications down with the screen, which it currently doesn't. When you're using the device with two hands or lying on the couch etc it is outstanding.

Use it one handed or when you're out and about and it becomes a pain. It is very noticeable in your pocket - IS THAT AN APPLE IPHONE SIX PLUS IN YOUR POCKET OR ARE YOU JUST GLAD TO SEE ME HA HA HA - and can be uncomfortable when you're sitting in a car or something but I can overlook that. The real issue is one handed use, you never realise how much you do this - on the toilet, replying to a message while walking through town, masturbating, cooking etc - it's made a very unpleasant experience due to the top-heavy weight balance more than anything. So is using it for calls, unless you're the BFG you look and feel pretty stupid. Like I said I have huge hands and still find it uncomfortable to use one handed. The Apple Watch makes this a little less irritating as you can perform your quick interactions from there but even then I still get annoyed with the phone size. I'd also say that the iPhone 6 (and even the 5S) have better performance, there are a few quirks and issues using the 6+ that are not on the smaller models.

Overall I'd say it depends on your lifestyle - it is not an iPad replacement. If you have an Apple Watch, massive mutated hands, rarely make actual calls, or just chuck your phone in your bag then the larger size will be less irritating, if you have anything other than late 90's baggy jeans it can feel a little unpleasant in the pocket. If you're a 'normal' sized person I'd be prepared to get annoyed by it. But when you're sat comfortably with both hands available it is the best iPhone by far. However the smaller model has better performance, is cheaper and is just a little more discreet and classy. It's close but I have decided that the negatives of the 6+ just slightly edge out the positives and will be selling mine for a standard 6S.

I too have above average big hands ( am 6"3 in height) and was testing both the versions in an Apple Store to decide which one makes sense for me. I currently use a blackberry z30 as my daily driver (company phone with data package) and I have got used to the 5" display of the phone. I also have an old iPhone 3GS in which I have put my personal sim. I am basically looking for a replacement of my personal phone..

The reason I mentioned the above is to highlight my observations of using the 6 and 6+. As I already got used to the 5" screen of the blackberry, the 6 screen felt a little small to me. Also having big hands, typing on the 6 is not as comfortable as the 6+ (by the way, blackberry typing beats iPhone any given day). Using the reachability feature, I was able to use the 6+ one handed without any use.

Thus the advantages of having a 6+ for me would be -
1. Bigger screen real estate
2. Able to use it one handed without any issue (with my big hands)
3. Better typing experience
4. Better battery
5. Reading / browsing and watching videos is more comfortable and better due to the bigger size
6. Slightly better camera

The only issue making me think twice is the ease of portability. I have just joined a gym and would want to take my phone alongwith. Don't know how the experience will be. Also with the bigger size, it won't fit so easily into my available car pockets.

Anyways, there is still some time before the launch happens in my city (Dubai), so I still have some time to test, read more user reviews and research..

Please keep more experiences pouring in ... :):)

I bought a 6 plus last year on launch. I have loved it, in spite of the issues you raised, mostly for the battery life. My brother has a 6 and for fun, we switched for a month or so. I could not wait to switch back!

Out of interest, what phone did your brother prefer? This seems like a good test.

I am going to a 6s from the 6+. Portability won out for me in my evaluations.

I use Bluetooth headphones and I tend to leave my phone near my workout area so that's not an issue. I guess that's also because I use a small gym and I know most of the folks there. Not sure how that would work in a bigger situation. I am however, a little concerned about going out for a run with the phone.

None of the people I know who use a 6+ use it for jogging / running.. Some might suggest to use an iPod.. But come on, if I buy an expensive smartphone, I should be able to use it for multiple purposes right.. I rely a lot on the iPhone as my primary music player..

Speak for yourself. The OIS made a significant difference to me.

Are you walking around with it often in your pocket? How big of a concern is that? For me, I get up, go to work, come home, sleep, repeat. It's in my pocket for brief amounts of time. And it's really not that bad. To be able to have that gorgeous screen and all the other benefits outweighs a bit of heft in my pocket.
I walk around with it quite often. Walking is no problem, though. Sitting down and cycling is not always comfortable. :\

6S. I debated the 6S/6S+ for a while but ultimately one hand operation won out over battery life, 1080p, OIS, and ergonomics/phablet functions.

Battery life - I’m used to my 5S lasting a day so the 6S will be fine since I’ll gain a few extra hours thanks to the 6 form factor in addition to iOS9 optimizations and low power mode. 6S+ is much better due to the physical size, no doubt about that!

1080p - Very good, but honestly after using both the 6 and 6+, the 6+ did have a sharper looking screen but not by much. I did not like how the 6+ downsampled and that the A8 chugged at times. I know the A9 + 2GB of ram will hopefully rectify the performance issues, it was not a dealbreaker/downgrade when coming back to the 6 display. I also think that the 6S will outperform the 6S+ due to the 750p resolution vs 1080p downsampled. The display also is nicer in general compared to the 5S.

OIS - Nice to have, but then I realized that all 4.7” phones on the market don’t have OIS and only the bigger phones do. I’ll live without it and my pictures/videos looked great when I had the 5S.

Ergonomics - It is just not comfortable holding the 6+/6S+ in one hand, coming from someone who has small hands. I talk on the phone a lot and the phone stretches my band to the point where it is awkward to hold. In addition, I value one-hand operation and being able to reach the entire display using 3D touch in one hand is really nice for me.

Phablet - The concept of having a 6S+ being my all-in-one device (iPad and iPhone) was very appealing but ultimately it is let down by ergonomics and the general lack of usability for me. The 6S+ uses landscape rotation a lot like an iPad but I *always* have had portrait orientation locked on my previous iPhones so it defeats the purpose of the two pane/landscape view for me. I don’t see many apps taking advantage of the bigger display and if they do, the portrait aspect/one-hand operation trumps the value of the 6S+ bigger screen. I hated the landscape keyboard too but that’s a minor complaint. Also putting the 6+/6S+ in my pocket, in my car's armrest, and general portability were not very good but were just about perfect with the 6/6S.

TLDR: 6S over the 6S+ because of one-hand operation, portability, and being able to use the screen/3D Touch with one hand.
Portability is important, I agree. The main issue here is that you are basically upgrading from every aspect (as you're coming from a 5S to a regular 6S). For me, I'm downgrading in battery life and I lose OIS. Additionally, when using the device, I had no problem using the 6 Plus one handed.

Carrying it around, though, is what bothers me most.

Going from a Space Grey iPhone 6 64GB to a Rose Gold 6S Plus 64GB. (Probable delay until Saturday thanks to the Pope).

This is the first time I'm reading about a lag on the 6 Plus when compared to the regular 6. What is this exactly? Anyone have links or validation that I can read through?

I just recently got rid of my iPad Mini and regular iPad to sort of unload the amount of tech lying around my house. :) Thought I could use the 6S Plus as a replacement to my 6 and the iPad Mini.

But I am a little concerned about this supposed "lag" on the 6 Plus (the original Plus and potentially the 6S Plus).
Occasionally, a 'delay' would occur. For example, if you were playing music - sometimes out of nowhere - the music would stop for a few ms or so. Or if you were opening an app, the animation would stutter for a few ms or so.

It's really got all to do with the fact that it's dealing with 3X Retina, instead of 2X Retina, and was basically underpowered.

Don't worry about it with the 6S Plus. It's got double the RAM, so multitasking problems will likely be a thing of the past, and both CPU and GPU speeds are drastically improved.

Thanks for chiming in! I'm still undecided as I believe I'm really going to miss the astounding battery life and great display, but I very much agree that it's a large device which is great to handle (when using it) but not that nice to carry around in your pockets.

Even your TL;DR is TL
Yeah, sorry. :p

If you're ever "in doubt" about the idea of going to a larger phone, it is more or less inevitable that you don't actually need the larger screen. You should only get the 6 Plus if you know that you need the larger screen and don't need one-handed use so much — or if you have giant hands: it's certainly a wieldy beast.

Also, it seems like most apps (even many major apps) still don't utilize the large screen of the 6 Plus, which is unfortunate, so most of the advantages don't seem all too usable.

The display is amazing and I love it. Nearly all apps see optimised for showing more content, few are optimised for taking full potential of landscape mode.

In other words, no problem with the display size. I do have a problem with the physical dimensions of the device, considering that there are significantly smaller 5.5" devices out there.

Tough decision.

I'm debating this too.

One factor to keep in mind: next year the iPhone 7 Plus will inevitably be thinner, lighter, and probably smaller due to smaller bezels and a tweaked design. The size of the bezels currently is a bit ridiculous, and there's no reason why a 5.5" phone has to be that large.

Personally, I'm trying to convince myself to just wait for the 7 Plus. The deciding factor is pocketability and one-handed operation.

Just a bit of feed back on going from 6+ to 6S. After being quite worried about downsizing, I love the choice I've made. Found 6+ was just a touch too big and dropped it many times. The 6S is more comfortable and I'm happy with the change in screen size. I do have all day access to charging battery at work if needed though. No regrets at all.

Last year I ordered the regular iPhone 6 and the 6 Plus. Most of the past year the iPhone 6 stayed in the box. I think I only used it about 30 days out of the year. This year I went with the 6S Plus. The larger size of the Plus definitely works better for my usage.

I agree. I am sizing down because the 5.5 is just too bulky. Apple should focus on fabric or flexible displays so that the unit can be folder smaller.

I'm going 5.5" 6+ to 4.7" 6s later today.

Girlfriend got her 6s yesterday and I do believe it feels a hell of a lot better in hand than my 6+.
