In general, I would prefer a user-replaceable battery. But having owned 4 Mac laptops and never replaced the original battery, I think I could live with the new battery (especially if it really runs 7 hours). I couldn't compromise on firewire though, which is why I passed on the original unibody macbook.

You guys just don't get it. I'd be pissed too. Apple took its bottom of the barrel laptop, upgraded it, kept the price the same and then snubbed the uMB users. It's like paying top dollar for a Porsche and finding out the Gremlin is getting a better engine. (And a firewire cupholder to boot).

On the other hand, a lot of uMB buyers bought because of this silly "coolness" factor so yeah, I'd say live with it.

That's a really broken analogy.

All that has happened is Apple upgraded and expanded their product lines. If it's true that the company is snobbing people, and would hope to avoid hurting people's feelings then they'd NEVER upgrade their line. EVER. So what would you propose them to do that is fiscally sound?

The only thing I'm peeved about is the improved LCD.

My 2.0 UMB is plenty more power than I need day to day. I don't use FW, I don't use SD-cards, so I don't care there. 4GB of RAM is plenty, and SL will be awesome with the 9400M in tow.

My MBP's battery was defective and part of the Battery Exchange Program. I didn't use my battery much at first, so the problems began showing after the exchange program was closed, and now the battery is almost useless.

Apple has refused to replace it, but I'm working on it. In the worst case scenario I'd just buy another battery from Ebay and pop it in. If my MBP had a non-replaceable battery, I'd have to either open it up and risk damaging it, or send it to apple for an expensive battery replacement.

They should always give the customer options with products, the option to replace your battery whenever you want and easily is something that shouldnt be taken away.

Just so everyone knows, the new MB is NOT in stock at stores today (at least in AZ) , called to confirm

Please; let's just use "VERSION", not "revision". The semantics of this has been discussed everywhere, and revision A implies (nay, means) there actually was a version prior.

Anyway, they're 1-2 weeks from shipping at the online store.

To all those who bought Unibody Macbooks

Don't feel bad, I bought the 13.3 uMB on Saturday not even thinking they would upgrade the MacBooks today. :(

Not sure if I'll eat the restocking fee and pick up the new one, or just continue on with what I got.

They never mentioned the screen at the wwdc so isnt there a risk that the screen they use on the new 13" mbp is just as bad as screen they used to ship with the uMB? I hope im wrong though...

And the main reason i would now want this over the air more than before is definitely battery life. It was always the thing that annoyed me about the old (one day old lol) macs was the battery life.

I have just realised that http://www.apple.com/uk/macbookpro/ says the 13" mbp starts at 1299... gd job i looked at the store page before i saw that or i would of been terrified

you should be able to work your way to get a new one if you talk to them since its been only the weekend.

The only problem is I bought it from Best Buy to take advantage of the 18 months no interest with their card. Obviously if I return it I'd go to the Apple store to get the new one, as I'm sure it will be a while before Best Buy gets the new models.

Already selling mine to get the new MacBook Pro 13 inch 2.53 ghz :D

Too bad they didn't put the 9600m gt inside, that would have been killer!!

So technically the original uMB is obsolete in under 8 months. The only Macbook (non Pro) is once again the white plastic model.

In reality they didn't upgrade the uMB, they phased it out quickly and replaced it with a 13" uMBP with more features. Some people will consider the 13" uMBP a rev B device, but in reality it is just another rev A of a new device. There will likely never be a rev B uMB.

I really like my uMB. I have a USB SD adapter and a Griffin ipod dock with a built-in SD reader, so that's not an issue really.

Firewire is a really nice thing to have. I miss the data copy speeds I used to have.

I wish I had waited 5 months, but I didn't. And for those 5 months I have had a great uMB and I will continue to have it. I can and will continue to live without firewire and I will continue to enjoy my uMB.

I have a blackbook 2.4 and never cared for the unibody simply because of the lack of firewire, I do alot of video. but now with this new one I can make an excuse for the upgrade come next semester. very, very exciting. entry level with 500gb storage waiting for install. will be very nice, . If i didn't care for video i would not care to upgrade like some of you are looking to do. silly.

I just got my 2.4GHz uMB in Mid-May so this kind of stinks, but I never use Firewire and I have a USB SD card reader so its not too big of a deal I suppose. My uMB has a nice screen IMHO so would rather not play the LCD panel lottery again, lol. Besides, with the 128GB SSD I have its plenty fast already even if the newer one has 2.53GHz.

I'm a mid-may purchaser as well. To be honest, I was expecting a processor upgrade and prepared to deal with something .13Ghz faster. But when you're going to the extent of fixing poor quality screens and adding hundreds of dollars of RAM as well, then I have an issue. I'm thoroughly disappointed with the RAM upgrade considering how many people paid an extra few hundred dollars anytime between yesterday and a month ago for it.

Oh well, it's true what they say, when you buy a Mac, you're extremely happy with your purchase...that is until 3 months prior to a refresh, at which point you start realizing that a new "standard" is about to become something you paid a hell of a lot of money for lol

I Just bought an Applecare extension of ebay for 75 quid for my Unibody, Still happy because the only thing on the new MBP13 I would like is the slightly better screen, I have already upgraded to 4GB of ram, However I hear the New MBP13 can manage 8GB, although right now thats expensive.
