But what are you basing this on? I don't dispute there are many people who are having assorted problems and issues, but I am wondering why you think more than half of the phones have issues.

Depends on the defect. I think easily more than half of all iphones have dust trapped inside. They're not manufactured in clean rooms, and there are just so many possible points of entry. Another common defect is the light leak. I personally didn't notice mine until I tried to look for it today. At first I thought it was a reflection off the chrome rim, but sure enough it was a light leak. If I didnt hear about light leaks here, I probably would have never discovered it on my own.

These are the types of defects that probably pass factory inspection since the vast majority of people will never notice it. (just like how an LCD panel can have X number of dead pixels before it is considered defective).

I'm constantly amazed by Apple fanboys trying to down-size the worldwide problems with this generation of iPhone. If this had been a Microsoft product everyone would be laughing at it and giving it negative reputation for the amount of bugs.

Simple syncs/backups taking 30-90 minutes
apps crashing all the time
stories of the phone getting stuck on the Apple logo until a restore is necessary (this has happened to me twice)
menu lag
keyboard lag
light leak
battery life issues
a standard, advertised feature like GPS not working on 2.0.1
iTunes showing 30+ updates are available when none are
stuck pixels
mobile me being a complete embarrassment to Apple
cracks in the plastic casing
disappearing sound issues
3G signal reception dropping after 2.0.1

etc etc............

Obviously no one has ALL these problems at the same time, but they're the most common issues with this current generation of Apple products, and it's a complete and utter farce.

How they can be so stupid as to release a new software update that completely disables GPS locate me functionality on 50% of iPhones is beyond me.

Sorry to burst your bubble but those things doesn't exactly constitute an almost completely fine iPhone. If your GPS working?
LOL I have to agree with you. This is my first Apple product. I have seen these Microsoft "bashing" commercials Apple airs. Now as soon as they have a product with a very large base [getting closer to what Microsoft has to deal with] they start having problems....Its easy to be perfect when you don't have as many customers.

Not bashing. Just think maybe Apple bit off more than they can chew right now. I hope these issues get resolved quickly.
