For Steam, I think it would have to be online co-op. Playing co-op on one computer is generally impossible.

It would be that way without Steam, too. But yes, say you're playing L4D on a Mac and your buddies are all on Windows - you can all play together.

My Mac Pro is only one year old, it never touched any windows, and now it's very likely it never will.

L4D supports online co-op (of course) but you can also enable splitscreen co-op on one machine. They all connect to the same servers so they're all playable with each other.

As for HL1, that isn't a Source game (its goldsource, I believe) but there is a port. HL1: Source on Steam. Costs around £5.

Your talking about doing this on a Mac or PC? If so I did not know that. You'd need some console controllers?

I was going to buy Windows 7 simply to play Half-Life 2: Episode 3 when it eventually releases. Now I don't have to bother. Good timing too, because I was literally about a month away from finally buying a larger internal HDD and Windows. :p

By the way, I'm downloading the original Half-Life and Team Fortress 2 on day one, maybe Portal too. :D I'm so excited.

Portal 2 is probably the only reason id use Steam on Mac. Maybe the new Half Life if it comes out, but I never played the others.

Added the Poll....

I only have 25Gb left, so any space i can find, im happy with :D Roll on April.

I will convert to Steam for Mac, since most of the games I play in Steam (especially CS:S, and DoD:S will be ported over), but I will still keep Windows for stuff I use for work, especially AutoCAD and RevIt (although Sketchup is available on the Mac).

You'd need a controller yea. I'd imagine this will be the same as the PC version. I don't know the exact config you have to edit but yea, you enable splitscreen and config a controller. A friend that I play L4D1 with set up his PS2 controller (with a USB adapter) for splitscreen with his brother.
Not sure if L4D2 supports it though, but seeing that the core engine is almost the same it should be in there.

I am really excited for Steam on OS X. I am considering saving for a Mac Mini just to make a dedicated space for me to do a little gaming and more of an OS X desktop experience. The specs of the Mini's are worst than my MBP though... yikes!

I voted yes even though I never had a Windows Partition. =/

I'll just be happy to be able to use my Counter Strike/Half-Life 2/Half-Life PC games my friend gave me a year or so ago. =D

Fully intended to order Snow Leopard & Windows 7, the latter for gaming, until rumours about Steam coming to Mac first broke. Installed Snow Leopard yesterday, but decided against buying Windows 7 (for now at least) due to Steam being confirmed for Mac.

BTW, IMO, SL is a well recommended upgrade. Anyone still having doubts because of early bugs, well 10.6.2 seems fine, unless I guess you're using very old hardware peripherals. To make sure, there should be an incompatibility chart somewhere if you Google for it.

I actually just ordered Windows 7 yesterday (currently have XP), partly for this reason, partly for work stuff. I'd still keep Boot Camp even if I didn't need it for work, just because there's plenty of games that either aren't available at all, or the Mac port sucks.

I definitely agree with you about SL, except for one thing: MBP battery reporting issues. Otherwise, it's an excellent upgrade.

if it only was that easy :(
I even would delete my windows partition if steam wouldn't come to mac, but I have to use windows for school :(
But at least I won't have to reboot to play TF2 anymore :D Wooptidoodel :D

Here is an example of when I would use Steam and keep my Windows partition:

KOTOR Steam= $9.99

KOTOR Mac= $49.99 new, $35 used.

KOTOR XBOX= $60 new, $14 used.- They really have the nerve to still be selling this title at $60??

KOTOR PC- $39.99, used $14.50 with configuration issues if your using Vista or 7.

Will this game come to Mac Steam? Unlikely? If likely, I might have incentive to dump Windows. ;)

Anybody else think Steam will require 10.6.3 since it is rumored to support OpenGL 3.0?

I've been stuck on 10.5.8 due to problems with 10.6 in a few specific instances but this might be enough to make me upgrade.

Doubt it, they would lose a lot of potential sales. I would like it though, I assume OpenGL 3 would have better performance or something.

That's another good example of why I'll keep it :( I bought the Mac version of Dragon Age and love it, but definitely wish Bioware made native versions.

At least Mac Dragon Age came out in a matter of months vs years. I realize there is some negativity surrounding Cider ports. Is the consensus that Mac Dragon Age has playable performance?

Yes - performance is on the better side of Cider-ports ...

BUT ... the Mac version of Dragon Age is unsupported abandonware.

My '08 MBP gets hot while playing (but when doesn't it?), though it plays well on medium settings. I'm not ultra picky like some, so it's good enough for me.

I really hope that doesn't turn out to be the case, as I'd like to play the expansions, etc.
