im hoping tmobile won't cancel the unlimited data plan before the 5S kicks in.

Does anyone know if I already have a Tmobile plan, that I can just walk into a Tmo store and purchase the iPhone 5 unlocked for full price ($579) and walk out without updating/changing my plan?

i would think so... now i don't know if you would get the 579 price because the 70 discount is for the customers getting the new phone. would like to know as well if the 579 price point is all across the board.

When it's released, I shall be selling my AT&T iPhone 5, canceling my contract and switching over to T-Mobile.

Yes, AT&T has blazing fast LTE data but call quality and reception is just terrible for me.

I really hope they don't. 2GB isn't really enough.

I have an unlocked att phone. I was considering paying for one month of tmobile just to see how their service is. I've tried tmobile twice (the most recent was maybe three years ago) and had terrible reception issues. Customer service was the best of any mobile company I had ever used.

This is exactly what I'm planning to do soon. I'm going to get a SIM and try out the prepaid $30 plan and do network tests for a month in my area before myself and my family make further decisions (we all have AT&T unlocked, off-contract iPhone 4/4S).

Keep in mind that if you're not in a refarmed area then your iPhones will be limited to slow Edge data. Only the upcoming Tmobile iPhone 5 supports their more widespread HSPA network.

Tmobile has terrible reception as well so...

T-Mobile has struggled in the USA. I do hope this new approach puts them back into the black and into a viable position amongst the other carriers. The more competition the better.

I have had nothing but stellar service from AT&T for years, so I'm not about to change a good thing.

Yes, this is why I want to test it first. I have been peeled to the Airportal unofficial map website, and there seems to be at least one tower everywhere I frequent (home, school, social places), everything besides Dodger Stadium and some of my voice students' homes, but I feel like I could manage that.

T-Mobile has pretty terrible service nationwide. Unless you live in one of the few places they actually have acceptable service, I don't see why anyone would switch.

if u from the boonies, maybe that's true. but that goes along with any courier. i've had tmobile before and the service was great. the only reason i left is because of the iphone.

I'm holding off till the 5S gets released, then switch from Sprint to T-Mobile (unlocked). Or purchase unlocked 5S from Apple. I'm trying to get away from paying that data plan altogether. All I want is that $30/month 1500 talk time pay as you go plan and use data where there is wi-fi. I'm paying $70 w/ discount with Sprint and this would be a 50% discount.

I guess these phone plans will come down in price some with T-Mobile's no-contract competitive pricing. They seem to cater to different needs. I fully understand those that stay with VZW or ATT because of speeds.

Compared with Verizon or AT&T? T-Mobile has pretty terrible service coverage and slow speeds compared with the likes of Verizon and AT&T.

Wrong again!
My wife has verzion on 3G at the most 2mps. My tmobile 3G is averaging 6+mps on HSPA and 10+ on HSPA+
Tmobile's AWS HSPA+42 (3G)has seen speeds up to 34mps.
It's an ablsolute fact AT&T does not see these speeds on 3G or 4G. However verzion and AT&T (3G LTE)speeds are super fast. Later this year AT&T will start to roll out LTEadvanced which will be true 4G.

in perspective, you REALLY don't need those blazing speeds anyways. for me, as long as i can surf the web seamlessly and do my data the way it's supposed to be, i really don't care if it's 10000mbps or 1mbps. it's good to brag tho, LULZ. :D

I have no intentions on leaving AT&T. Although I would probably be more likely to do so if I hadn't brought my mom on to my plan.

You seem to not understand the concept that the world does not revolve around you/your wife. It is fact that Verizon has the most extensive overall nationwide coverage in the US. AT&T is a close but debatable second. It is also fact that AT&T has the fastest average 4G/LTE speeds nationwide in the US.

It is mathematical fallacy that T-Mobile's or any HSPA+ network is faster than AT&T or any 4G LTE network. Are you familiar with the concept of big-O notation? This is in the realm of discrete mathematics and we all know the education system in the US is pretty lacking in comparison with the rest of the world. T-Mobile HSDPA+ 3.5G/faux 4G has a big-O of AT&T's 4G LTE. But again, don't hurt your head too much if all you have is high school mathematics. All it means is the 3G/faux 4G can never be faster than 4G LTE. It would be like saying a car traveling at 42MPH can theoretically be faster than a car traveling at 100MPH. That is simply not true unless we delve in the world of quantum physics and such.

Btw, what the heck is 3G LTE? AT&T already has LTE. It's T-Mobile who started the trend of calling HSDPA+ 4G when it's more accurately 3.5G. T-mobile to this day still does not have a nationwide 4G LTE network, it only has a partial LTE network in the US as of today.

I've been with AT&T five years. Have four iPhones on a family plan and will definitely be looking to move when the contact is up next summer. It looks like it may even be cost effective to pay the ETF and switch sooner. Need to recheck my numbers.

Can't wait to be rid of AT&T. They've got lazy and greedy over the years. Glad T mobile are shaking up the market. That's how a free market is supposed to work. The cosy AT&T/Verizon hegemony has gone on too long.

Whoever started the 4G marketing does not matter it's just wrong. By industry standards true 4G and 4G LTE will be IP based communication.

Agreed. VoLTE. That poster had no idea what 3G, 4G or LTE is. Not even the marketing version which is pretty fubar already.
