Absolutely love mine - coming from an iPad 2, the display is a non-issue. We had 3 iPad 2s yesterday - we've got 3 iPad minis and 3 traded in iPad 2s today :)
O2 recycle gave us £181 each for a 16GB WiFi iPad 2 which means it has cost a touch over £300 to upgrade them all to iPad Mini 16GB - a pretty sweet deal to me :)

Initially after reading the Pro-Apple David Pogue's statement that the display was terrible, I decided not to buy.

Then upon further consideration I decided to go to an Apple store and have a look for myself. My observation is that some are fuzzy and horrible looking, others not so bad. The key to success is to buy one, open the box while still in the store and check out the display. If the text is fuzzy, return it on the spot for another. Sooner or later you will find one that is actually quite good.

The genius are very much in agreement, as they too have noticed the large variance in display quality. The one I took home is just fine.

I agree. I replaced my mini today because it had dust behind the screen and for some reason I feel like this screen is much more crisp, not sure why. I wouldn't have thought of it until I saw this post but is it a difference between two manufacturers? There were talk that two different companies were producing screens for the mini. I believe it was ifixit's tear down that revealed that.

Ugh. Well I'll be I'm a store next week and I'll check it out but the last thing I need is a reason to obsess over a cycle of returns.

I like mine, but I'm glad I'm not stepping up on the iPad 3. The mini is a great leap from the iPad 1, but not from the 3.

Really like the Mini. Screen is much better than I was led to believe. Sure it's not retina but IMHO is very good and not a negative at all. Really like the size, not to big, not to small. I bought this to augment my 3rd Gen but now I'm thinking it will be my first choice for everything but watching movies.

Originally voted undecided yesterday but I've changed my mind to yes, absolutely love the size/ weight of it! It's AMAZING they've crammed a fully featured iPad into something this form factor. It really is a revolutionary product and deserves to sell well. The lack of a retina display isn't the end of the world and is acceptable for the price asked.

The screen is a deal breaker for me. I love everything else about it though. I'm going to return it and wait for a retina model.

It's also slow compared to my iPad 3rd gen and iPhone 5. A faster CPU would be nice.

I'm puzzled by that statement. I have iPad 2 and it feels just as fast as iPad 3 as with mini, and it's expected since iPad 3rd gen shared the same CPU as iPad 2 and mini. iPhone 5's A6 is significantly faster than iPad 3rd gen's CPU.

iPad 4th gen on the other hand is a graphics monster and after Nexus 10's release, it doesn't look like it was a bad idea. Apple kept up with the specs war and it was mostly a mild upgrade other than the speed. This does put in perspective how big of an upgrade iPhone 5 was over 4S - it had the same speed bump but in a completely new body and an improved larger screen.

22% battery and been going for ten hours with Bluetooth on is well, didn't realise.

Hope you folks are okay in the US.

Agreed Nikos.

Why return it i'm loving that it's lighter, thinner, and better than the iPad 3!

This.

The deal you're breaking is pretty luxurious. If I had sold it to you, you'd be stuck with it. Be pleased that modern day retail can afford the fickle American consumer.

So, so portable... works in my vehicle, which the iPad Mini can be controlled by my stereo head unit. LOVE IT! I had just purchased an iPod Touch 5, which I brought back today and saved myself $300.

I'm Canadian, and I'm pleased you don't make the rules.

Looks great, outstanding proportions, light weight...and apple actually got the aspect ratio right.

Very slick "little" tablet.

I stared at the screen for quite a bit and it looks pretty good. Certainly better than the iPad 2. Not a deal breaker. Considering it was sold out everywhere, many feel the same way.

When I hold it I love it, but it took forever to load Vimeo last night and when it did it looked like crap! And pokerstars kept dropping for some reason. When installing an app the screen kept freezing. It is amazingly portable. If they bring a retina out its gonna be amazing! So hard to decide what to do seen as I have a retinal MacBook!

No. Lack of software optimization for the screen size and display quality kill it for me.

Definitely going to keep it. It's everything I've always wanted in an iPad.

I agree. I bought a 32gb model and should've just got a 16gb to save money. With the smart cover and tax it was all $500. I don't think it's worth that much so I will be returning it. I don't see a need for it between my iPhone 5 and my iPad 2 (which I still like despite no retina display). I did like reading on the mini and the light weight of it. However there are cheaper devices I can buy for that.

I'm still undecided.

Buttt it is day 3. I'll wait until day 10 to make my final decision..
