Same here. I've had zero issues. To the original poster - just double tap quicker. Even being quicker the double tap still feels pretty natural to me, it doesn't need to be quick enough to be so insanely fast that only someone with the speed and reflexes of a fighter jet pilot or martial arts expert can do it (I'm neither).
I'm relieved that it isn't an issue for me because it's the only way I'm really comfortable using Apple Pay. Presenting a biggish phone to a reader whilst precariously holding it at the bottom edge while putting my thumb on the home button is too fiddly especially on a very busy public transport system like London's. I far prefer to get my phone out of my pocket a few seconds before having to pay, double taping the home button to put my default card into waiting-for-reader mode, and then just plonk my phone down onto the reader holding it pretty much however I like to complete the transaction. There's far less danger, at least for me, of dropping my phone this way.
Great question and great responses. I know this doesn't really apply, but that is what I love about my Apple Watch. Apple Pay is always available and I don't even have to take anything out of my pocket. The implementation on the Watch is superior to the iPhone.

I couldn't agree more, the Apple Pay experience with the Watch is unbeatable. The best use so far was paying for the new iPhone with Apple Watch, so far the most I have paid with Apple Pay, as most places in the UK only allow purchases for up to 30 quid.
The speed of the new Touch ID is amazing, very impressive.
