I wonder if any, or how many, of these posts claiming Apple must have been hacked are fake accounts trying to stir up panic? This insistence that a conspiracy theory is try with no more evidence than a claim of 17 anonymous sources is precisely the kind of thing I'd expect to see from someone trying to stir up unrest.

Just because they haven’t found them, doesn’t mean they aren’t there. And if they did find them, do you really think Apple would admit to finding them? Of course not. They’d say exactly what they are saying now. Lol.
So they would lie to the public and all their shareholders? Got it.

It's a total mess.

We can all have opinions, but I recognize that even my own opinion on this is pretty worthless. My advice to every person is "Don't Believe What You Think".

Just as a side note, why is the size of the chip so noteworthy? We live in age of iPhones with 10 billion transistors inside of them.

It’s not so much the size but instead the lack of pins to accomplish everything alleged.

Not to mention that chip somehow is supposed to phone home undetected...which if anyone has ever seen traffic monitoring at a place with high amounts of traffic becomes kind of laughable.

If this did in fact happen I would not expect Apple to admit it. And if it didn't happen then they would deny it. Therefore, we will never know unless Apple is put under oath; however, as we've seen from the Bart K. hearings it's very easy to get away with lying about it.

It's interesting to have so many people disputing the content of this story. This eerily feels like it was written by Stephen Glass from the New Republic magazine. It was later found many of his "sensational" stories were all fabricated and never occurred, talk about a giant black eye to the publication.

We'll have to wait on the fallout of this story. Although, my journalism senses say to side with the companies and the government. Until there's proof, just watch the drama unfold :)

Ah, the logic of the Flying Saucer folk.

The more I hear the word "chip" the more I think about Queso and Guac. I still don't think Chinese chips will perform anywhere near as good as mexican chips.

Agreed, Mexico’s been making the best chips, since about what 23,000BC...
2018, another year of superior Mexican chip manufacturing dominance!
Here’s to another ten thousand years, Mex!

Just for the record, my first suspicion is more and more plausible. These reporters were overeager and let themselves be manipulated by some in the intelligence establishment, now with Trumpies taking over more positions. Discredit China’s supply chain? Sure. A tariff on chips made in China would be a catastrophe. Silicon Valley would take a decade to recover. MAGA! They’ll start up government subsidized plants in Kentucky making American Computers you have to buy.

Not sure who to believe; but that's the age we live in now.

Yup, REALLY tough decision... choose to believe like 10 tech companies, at least one of which is famous for transparency, the myriad security experts backing their story, including multiple government agencies- or a non-technical news outlet, that has yet to provide a shred of evidence & is 100% going with: “well... more than one person told us this is what happened, so- proof enough for us!”.

Great. I find myself agreeing with the NSA.

Apple -> SuperMicro over driver: "Fool me once. No chance to fool me twice."

Except that they would not because A) they can no longer keep a secret and B) when it came out they lied they would be in a huge world of pain. It is not like lying on a tax form or lying about a product being defective or anything. This would be as serious as it gets, so trust me non story from an outlet known for lying and spreading whatever FUD and BS they wish.
