I don't think it is supposed to be glued. There are clips holding it in place and a seal around it is for water resistance, not structural rigidity. If there's clicking that would be due to fitment issues.
Yep definitely clicking noise, like the screen is loose or touching a component. The screen does not move when pressed. I have a 13 Pro Max and it does not make any noise and i am pressing in that screen super hard.

There can be some occasional clicks due to heat cycles which are normal and just about inevitable with materials expanding and contracting in different ways. But those would be rare and far in-between/random, not exactly something you could easily reproduce... What you are describing certainly does not seem normal. I doubt this affects durability in major way or the actual water resistance since the seals are meant to withstand small movements and still do their job, but yeah you do have grounds to just return the phone for parts fitment defect.

I would expect clicks and rattles from camera modules as they get bigger (heavier).

There are moving parts for the optical stabilisation, sensor-shift stabilisation, and focusing groups. Some parts float on electromagnets when engaged; when turned off they flop around.

My full-frame camera and lenses click and whir in operation, and when off they clunk as heavy elements move around. All normal.

One glance at the new 17 Pro tele camera will tell you there is significant moving mass in there now.
If it was normal, some devices would not have it while others don’t.

I haven’t noticed a single issue with my silver 17 Pro 256gb in the U.S. I did put my ear right up to the camera and flipped between the cameras, and I could hear the tiniest clicking noises. The room had to be absolutely silent and I had to have my ear right up to the camera to notice this.

I’m a little OCD myself, but some people take it to another level.

I did not have to put my ear up to anything to hear the camera clicking whenever I opened up the camera app. Maybe you are the only one that’s OCD here.

This is a ridiculous level of hardware issues for a Pro phone.
In strongly disagree. Pretty much every year (bendgate, etc.) clickbaiters call out iPhone hardware as failing. Of course out of tens of millions sold some anecdotal instances will present <yawn>. I have owned each of the iPhone Pros and a selection of others back to v1 and I say you are wrong.

Also note that asking "Feel free to add any other issues you’ve experienced" seems a bit like trolling to me.

I mean Apple literally put silicone rings on the MagSafe stand chargers in Apple Stores because the phones were all scratched on the back in every store. Plenty of YouTubers have had scratches and dents within the first couple weeks of use. I’d say they’re definitely guilty of some more hardware quality issues than usual this year, but hey, you can have your own opinion too.

What did Apple say when you took it to them? My guess is you did not and chose instead to whine to the internet.

IDK, but it seems to me that Apple has been increasing haptic feedback on the newer iPhones. Some users may perceive such haptic feedback as "like the screen is loose or touching a component."

Phone was not turned on. How is that haptic feedback?

The camera click is probably the element being stabilised quickly.

If you think that’s a problem then wait until you get a proper Nikon camera lens with VR in it. The entire lens is floating inside the barrel and when it’s powered down it clunks around loudly as you’re walking around.

Some of these people are offended simply by the fact that other people’s iPhone launch has been ruined by these hardware issues, as if we’re insulting the almighty perfect Apple god that they pray to…

Clearly it could be a part of the functionality but it’s not present on all the Pro devices, and definitely not on past generations, so that just tells me there is something wrong with the hardware assembly on the ones that click into place.

Perfect 17Pro here. No issues at all. Amazing display.
Wish I could have been falling in love with the Air.
Among other reasons why I returned it was the screen. Such a disappointment. Green shift hell.
Sorry to hear you couldn’t keep the Air. I got a perfect G9Q display on my Space Black Air the first try, but no such luck getting a Pro without problems.

One thing to note from the aluminium case is that whilst it took a dent, the screen survived intact. Had that been stainless steel you’d be looking at a slight nick in the frame but a cracked display. I know which I prefer.
Sorry but that’s completely untrue, I dropped my 13 Pro countless times on hard surfaces with no case, the screen never cracked once.

Neither "Plenty of YouTubers" clickbaiting nor whatever Apple does with store display chargers has the slightest thing to do with real iPhone ownership.

Oh okay, so you just willingly ignore the countless people who have posted pictures of their dented and scuffed phones not even a month out from release, got it!

To be brutally honest, the “countless” you mention, unless it is the amount of millions, most people would not notice the issue.

Apple seemed to notice the issue and addressed it already so that leads me to believe it’s pretty noticeable.

I agree with this take. Asking “Feel free to add any other issues you’ve experienced” does kinda come off like trolling. I’ve seen hardware or software issues across nearly every Apple product over the years — some isolated, some not — and Apple generally tracks and addresses these issues quite well.

It is fair for any product from any manufacturer also include the support experience. Apple’s response and service history are part of what differentiates them compared to most.

Since we have anecdotes here, user behavior plays a role. It isn’t uncommon for some folks to be unusually rough on devices - some could mangle a tank if you give ‘em time- or have expectations that don’t align with how the product was designed to be used.

Framing anecdotal issues and framing them as systemic failures risks & the “Feel free..” line does come appear as click-bait.

I’m curious as to your experience when you went to the Apple Store, @kulan.

First time I returned a Pro Max for the speaker noise issue and they said they had heard of the issue before but had no idea what to do about it, so I picked up an Air and walked out. The second time I returned a Pro for the camera clicking and they seemed clueless this time too, so I picked up a base 17 and walked out.

Also, trolling? Really? Do you guys even know what that means?

Clearly you didn’t check the link to the Apple website discussion where a bunch of other people share the same exact issue with the speaker noise and provide audio/video evidence. Meanwhile you are sitting here calling the issue “anecdotal.”

I could provide links to discussions about the back cameras and Face ID clicking as well, but I was almost certain people on this forum could use Google in 2025 if they were so inclined to research these problems. I guess I was wrong.

I don’t understand how you are trying to frame an invitation to share hardware issues you’ve experienced as trolling, like how much have you been conditioned to blindly defend Apple?
