3dfx was an AMAZING company; it was so sad when they went under. i loved their voodoo series of cards... they're what first got me into computer hardware.

Totally agree. They were a great company too.... one of the few that seemed to be made up of genuine, decent people who weren't entirely money-oriented (not that they weren't out to make money).

if they were around today, and making notebook GPU's, my macbook pro wouldn't be out for repair for the next week because of the dreaded "blank screen of death" issue. and if it was, they would have publicly acknowledged their mistakes and implemented some great customer service... although i guess it is that forthright customer service that bankrupted them in the first place.

Very true. 3dfx was a cut above other companies in all ways imaginable. It's funny, because they pretty much single-handedly jumpstarted the graphics revolution.... and without them we'd be pretty much nowhere (Doom 2, anyone?)

lets just hope nvidia learns from their mistakes if they come out of this in any position to continue being apple's supplier. and ati too, for that matter.

Meh, screw nVidia. They killed 3dfx, which is mostly why I so dislike them, lol... I like ATI though, always have. :)

You're making it up. Steve himself told me that the chips are fine.

This needs to be addressed. NOW.

Apple isn't going to make a big announcement like Dell or HP about the possibility of defective GPUs. If you know Apple's history, they've always treated problems in a 'hush-hush' manner. Past iBook owners with their logic board problems, Titanium hinge issues, and Macbook owners with cracking cases know what I'm talking about.
