Engadget points to an article from Shufflegazine about NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang's recent visit to Dubai where he was photographed with a slim slate-style tablet computer. The device's sleek profile, iPhone-style "home" button at the bottom front of the device, and suggestions of an iSight-like webcam in the top of the front bezel led to some initial speculation that the device might be related to Apple's much-rumored tablet computer.

While Apple's tightly-guarded secrecy surrounding its future products made it highly unlikely that any high-ranking figure would allow themselves to be photographed in public with an unreleased Apple device, should they even have access to it, an update to the article has confirmed that the device is simply a prototype tablet developed by NVIDIA to pitch to potential partners.
Through other people present at the event who played with the tablet a bit (I didn't) I've been told it's a Tegra based tablet that NVIDIA have developed to show off to various companies. This one was made for T-Mobile and carried their logo.

"an update to the article has confirmed that the device is simply a prototype tablet developed by NVIDIA to pitch to potential partners."

So why is this news?

It's something I'd like to know. Saw this on Engadget and was interested. If Apple doesn't release a tablet, and someone else does, then I'll buy that. It's good to know that other people are thinking the tablet thing through and putting together options. We like options.

It's a little big too, isn't it, for the rumoured Apple tablet. (from the pic it looks well over 13" rather then the supposed ~10.5".

Though if you read the article in question it is good publicity for Apple having the NVIDIA CEO saying he would only have Apple computers in his house because of their superior quality.

(I wonder if he is getting any kick backs for this)

I don't care...

I'll take two!

I dunno, to me that has Apple written all over it. A single button at the bottom, looks like there is a cam on the top, looks suspiciously like the 'allegedly leaked' mockups of what the iTablet is supposed to look like...... I'm 'choosing' to believe this is indeed an Apple prototype and NVIDIA are just covering themselves because they've accidentally allowed it to be photographed in the wild

I want one! :)

Just what I'm thinking ;)

That's hot. If it runs a real operating system and has a stylus, I'd be seriously tempted to buy a production model whether or not it has fruit on the back.

it looks cool, obviously someone is building it for them to show off to clients, wonder if the people building it for them took a little creative stab of what an apple device would look like

People keep asking for an Apple tablet when their really already is one. No, I am not refering to the iPhone. The ModBook, while not an official Apple product, IS a Mac OS X tablet, and even though it may be a little pricey, it's what we have right now.

Had that actually been an Apple prototype, this would have been the last known living photograph of Jen-Hsun Huang.

From NVidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang, himself - http://www.shufflegazine.com/2009/11/08/nvidia-ceo-visiting-dubai-says-im-all-apple/ on Nov. 9th/2009.
Apple uses the best technology for their [computers]. Apple says to their customers: if you buy a computer from us you can be sure we have selected the best technology inside for you. That is their promise to consumers. Their promise to consumers isn't we've selected the best technology for you with the exception of what Intel allows us to use. That's not their promise. And that's why Apple uses the best technology where they want whenever they want. And that's why I'm all Apple! At home it's just Macs everywhere. It's NVIDIA's technology in all of them but I use Macs. My son has two Macs, my daughter has a Mac, there's an extra Mac just in case and my wife has a Mac. It's just Mac, Mac, Mac! Because I know it's got the best stuff inside.

Hilarious...

First, that is my favorite reply all day. Freakin' hilarious "..last known living photograph..."

Second, one doesn't just have a prototype tablet made to show around. Especially one that is so thin and polished (the overall tablet, not the glossy finish). It takes untold months of work and loads of cash. Why would NVIDIA expend such resources to show off their secondary chipsets, etc? This has to be a product headed for the market. Now, that said, I will be shocked if it is from Apple (see above quote from TheSlush).
