This is a great option for those who can't afford a Gaming PC or just decide to put their money into the Apple Ecosystem instead. Until developers start using the hardware in today's Macs for AAA games, GeForce Now is an amazing alternative. I've tried the 3080 tier and it is a very solid service.
Its not the hardware that is the issue, it never was.

I've been happy with my GeForce Now "Ultimate" subscription. Happy it is going to get upgraded at no additional cost. The only complaint I have is out of my 1504 steam games (mostly indie titles) only 248 are supported. 😔

I don't know why there isn't better support. I wish it was like the steam deck that allows you to play it... just maybe not a perfect experience. I understand it has to have cloud saving and all that to work but still.
Because many companies refused to support their games on GFN such as Blizzard, EA, MS, and more. Therefore, it's really difficult to bring games to GFN. It's up to them to support, not Nvidia.

The GeForce RTX 4080 is one of the most powerful GPUs available for purchase, but the $1,200 price makes it inaccessible for many.
Well that's YOUR opinion,..why is that even in the article? There are many of us that aren't living on the seat of our pants,..clearly.

iPhones in general are over $US1000, why don't you also make that comment when it comes to the phone or iPad?

I guess I didn't consider it a licensing issue. It literally fires up Steam with your credentials to open and play the game. It just streams the video/controls. Anyway... a quick google search later it does seem to be the case. Seems odd. You still have to buy the game, you would think publishers would be for any reason to sell games.

Given that Nvidia just touted the DLSS 3 flag as its performance metric.. 3x a 3090’s frames. My guess is that this 4080 240 frames is largely DLSS frames which are not game engine frames. This means two thirds of the frames (e.g. Smoothness AI frames) are just there to make things look nice, despite being janky and slow (as engine frames are slightly delayed by DLSS frames). So the true frames could be a fraction... Perhaps 30 to 80 real game engine frames???

Anyone have specific details or is my speculation seeming close?

AT&T is giving all new and existing 5G customers and new AT&T Fiber customers 6-months free of GeForce NOW Ultimate. Offer starts Jan 19th.

I use GeForce NOW to play Dead By Daylight on my M1 Mac for the past year now and I'm constantly amazed by how well the game looks with hardly any lag. I'm hardwired with cable internet.

$1,200 GPU is inaccessible for many, but a $1,200 iPhone is not? 🤷‍♂️

Well, $1,200 includes the entire phone. If you had to pay $1,200 for the A16 chip and then extra money for the enclosure, display, memory, and other internal components, it would be similarly inaccessible for many.

it's ok i guess for casual gamers, but as a pc gamer for most of my life this sht just doesn't work even on a fios 1gb connection, physical wired at an actual 700 mb/s, the graphic is just soft compared to a physical gaming pc. It drives me nuts, input lag i can deal with but looking at this graphic compared to a crispy 1440p output from a local gaming pc, it's just no comparison. I dont know what exactly upgrading the server side video processing will do when the limitation is the network itself.

That was about 6 months ago when i tried, dont know if they improved any, i doubt it. Dont think remote gaming works for hardcore games until they figure out some new compression or tech that can deal with the network limitations.

I'd like to see the Venn diagram of "Gamers who demand high frame-rate visuals." intersecting "Gamers who will tollerate the latency of cloud-based gaming service".

I deal with gamers at work sometimes. They think anything over 10 ms is too much latency on their internet connection for normal multiplayer.

Shocking after they screwed everyone last week removing gamestream. I own a 4090 that I can now only use from my computer. NVidia’s greed is 1000x worse than Apple.

I'm the opposite. I have a PS5 with the disc drive and a couple games with the disc but I'd love to throw them out and now ONLY buy downloadable. I don't have any need for the additional clutter around the house and don't want to store them. Internet connection is 100Gbit, so I can download any game in a couple seconds. Wish there was an option to trade your disc games for download versions (hate having to put a disc in to play those ones, when it's just verifying the fact you have the disc, while playing everything off the internal SSD).

Games companies have a very bad record at preserving their titles after 10-15 years so I do both. I have a Games Pass sub, I do buy games from Epic and Steam, but I also collect discs for some titles. If it wasn't for the retro community many classic arcade and 80s games would have disappeared. Today's generation would never see some of the most enjoyable games ever made.

Not to mention MASSIVE 0 day patches and constant stream of fixes for a supposedly "finished" game over a year or so after release. All that crap is now the industry standard, so installing and being able to play straight off a disc is a long forgotten tradition anyway.

What about SteamLink? I know the hardware is long gone but it's an app you can run on an Android TV box now. I have it on my Shield Pro to game in the living room TV from the PC in the other room. I have a much older graphics card but I assume it works just as well on newer ones.

I've had GeForce Now since the beginning when it had SO many titles (think Dishonored, Dishonored 2, etc.). A lot has been removed since its inception. It's not bad, but if you're really into gaming on your mac, Shadow Cloud Computing is the way to go. It isn't cheap, but if it's your thing and you love it, you can game COMPLETELY on your mac; it's pretty amazing. My build is around $47/mo. I know I could build/buy a PC for less over time, but I don't care. I can play via Shadow on my Studio, my M1 Max, whatever, wherever.

Sounds intriguing. Will look into it.

Cool, but….the service still only supports like 10% of games so what’s the point?
Do you need to play 10% of the games currently available at the same time? That's literally tens of thousands of games.

For me personally, I get to play the newer AAA games my machine is too old for, and I get to play a lot of the Windows games I've accumulated for free over time. A complete win for me.
I feel like this will use a ton of memory and ram or is this not the case? (Want to use this to play cities skylines but both my MBA and iMac memory is nearly full 😅)
No, you stream everything. I play it on my 2011 iMac, and it is running quite well when my kids aren't streaming on our 4G internet connection.

Same experience here (When the kids aren't streaming). I've been very pleasantly surprised at the low lag, and that even on a 4G connection, and will most likely be paying for Geforce Now in the future. I am just waiting on a fiber connection, which I am getting early spring, before taking the plunge.

I have around 500 games in my steam library. GeForce now supports 20 of them. Therefore, what’s the point?
