Apple has barely scratched the surface on New York and Long Island stores. There are only 2 on Long Island. LI could easily support several more. Brooklyn could certainly support one as could Queens (has the mall with the highest dollars per square foot sales in the US).

New York doesnt have anything on Southern California as far as how many apple stores... lol i complain because i have to drive 10 minutes to the pasadena store but within a half hour drive i have at least 8 of them near by.
Yeah, but how many of those are huge flagship stores like the three we have over here?

go into any apple store in the city and thats proof enough for another 5 stores.

people who are claiming that their are too many stores probably don't live here...when your local store looks like 5th avenue does anytime during the day, u can start complaining. There are lines there at 2 am sometimes!

also, that neighborhood is awesome. My girlfriend use to work in that VS...beautiful location.

Apple has a store in White Plains.

I hate going to that store. Its such a nuissance because you can never get to use any of the machines since everyone who doesn't have a mac is using photobooth. At least the ones in NY people dont spend more then 5 minutes on a computer because someone is always breathing down their necks to get off of the machine. We need to have an apple store in larchmont, so i can just walk and get an iPod.

In the boonies, too.

That's nice, but where is the one for us Canadian's I'm in Alberta. Sure the few we have up here are way to far to drive too.

Well, I'm in the North East of Germany with the nearest apple store 280 km away. Luckily, my local electronics retailer just started carrying Macs with a huge full-page ad of iMacs configured with 2GB Ram, 1333 MHz FSB, 360 GB Hard drive. Now I know what you're thinking...those aren't the right specs. So, I went in to check. Sure enough, the plaque next to the iMac had different specs: 1GB Ram, 8MB L2 Cache, 1066 MHz FSB. I know, you're still thinking...that's not quite right either. So, one click on "About this Mac" solved the riddle. These quacks don't know what product they're selling. I pointed this out diplomatically to one of the salesmen, who happens to be a student of mine. He went duly red in the face.

So, all you with a real Apple Store anywhere near you...be thankful!!

BUT, I can see adding another NY store, just not in Manhattan, it's overkill; why not put one in Brooklyn? It's cheaper, becoming more trendy/fashionable, and there isn't one there yet.

PS. The Starbucks aren't the problem, it's all the damn bank branches taking up space.

Yea, I wouldn't mind seeing them spread about a bit more. Brooklyn does sound like a good idea.

And if you've ever had to search for an ATM there can never be too many bank branches.

Ok I'm there. We don't have a SINGLE OFFICIAL Apple store here in Holland, how awfull is that! Spoiled New Yorkers:p

Yes, but with how horrendous our exchange rate is, you could buy a plane ticket to NY, do your shopping, and fly back for less than I spend on a typical trip to the Apple store.

how bout one in lower manhattan apple? below houston... please J&R is boring me.

Mmmmm *starts planning another NYC trip*

rdowns, you up for some pizza and Apple shopping some time next year (or whenever)? :D

Upper West Side Store Error

I work on the same block that the NY Post said the new apple store was to appear and I think they've got it wrong. The location the Post cited is currently a Victoria's Secret store where there is no construction going on at all. Maybe this is because they haven't decided to proceed with the plans, but if Apple is building a store for the Upper West Side, it's bound to be at 66th and Broadway on the north-west corner.

This location used to be a Tower Records, and is currently under construction without any indication of what it will become. While passing by today, a door was left open to reveal a very Apple-esque space. A large, open floorplan with a stairway towards the entrance which might lead to something like the 5th avenue store. It just seemed right. Maybe the space is too large for an Apple store, but they could be dividing the space up. I guess we'll know in the next six months if I'm right or wrong.

From a article:

The location on the northwest corner of West 67th Street hosts the current Victoria's Secret store at 1981 Broadway, which Apple is planning to tear down and entirely rebuild.

Im sure it takes a bit, especially in NYC to get permits etc to start tearing down a building...

My first thought was that they got it wrong too, and that they meant the former Tower Record space. But that space is a lot uglier than where Victoria's Secret is now. You know Apple can only be in a pretty place... :D

Yeah I think it's going to be the Tower records space too. It just makes too much sense not to be

The "cube" store sold out of Air's within 1-2 hours of receiving a new shipment of like 20-30. It really is a madhouse in there.

Its actually going to be a Circuit City, due to the Best Buy that opened a few blocks away. And also, my store is going to be sharing the same back loading space.
