Hello all,

Again, thanks for all the previous help.

Have an iPhone, that when I delete eMails, also deletes automatically from new iMac's MAIL APP.
Does Not delete from an older pc running windows 7 and using Thunderbird for eMail.

So, as was pointed out, the iMac is using IMAP. (Apple's MAIL APP)

I will attempt to change it to a POP.

Question: I use Comcast for my eMail and internet.

Any problem if some of my devices uses IMAP, and others use POP ?

Thanks,
Bob

Would have thought the devices using POP will delete the emails from the server thus making them unavailable to the devices using IMAP? IMAP keeps email on the server whereas POP doesn't (or isn't supposed to anyway)
We use IMAP exclusively so that all emails are available to all devices (as long as they're connected to the internet that is.)

Agree with the above about using IMAP whenever possible. In many clients that I can remember, you can set the POP3 client to not delete on the server.

POP is no longer default options when setting up mail. Moreover, the Mail app has been streamlined to only use IMAP now. Using POP maybe the reason why you have issues now.

If you’re using multiple devices IMAP makes more sense. POP3 is an obsolete protocol developed at a time when constant on internet connections were rare and most users didn’t have multiple devices with email clients on them. As others have pointed out, POP3 defaults to downloading email off the server, deleting them, and disconnecting. There is an option to keep messages on the server but the protocol has largely been supplanted by IMAP and webmail. Unless there’s a specific reason you need to use POP3, I’d switch everything over to IMAP and not have to worry about your mail being synced. If the issue is that your mail provider doesn’t support IMAP, then it’s probably time to find one that has made the change to the 21st century.
