This is excellent news, and at last some straight and sensible speaking from Mathew Key:
''Customers find 'unlimited with limits' confusing, plus most people don't speak in megabits or understand what they equate to," said O2 UK chief executive Matthew Key.
''So we've taken the decision to remove the fair usage cap so that 'unlimited' really does mean 'unlimited' this is a market first."
don't like the bit about not putting the sim in other devices, but I assume they mean like laptop cards or other smartphone for internet access. I was planning on putting the SIM in my old phone and sending one text out to all my contacts with my new number. Would o2 be able to detect I did this, and would they care?
Technically, they can tell if you put the SIM into a different device, because the network is always notified of the IMEI.
But I agree that their intention is to deter you from putting the SIM in devices that will typically use many more MBs.
Whether or not they'd actually penalise for putting your SIM in a cheapo handset for a boozy night out or an overseas holiday, I don't know. It's up to them.
we kinda always knew that 200mb just wouldnt be enough for the iPhones rich content. Maybe on mobile websites (wap or whatever its called), the usage is much less, and 200mb is plenty. On my current unlimited data i think i get 3gb. Which is a lot more than i could ever use on a mobile phone.
