Hi I am currently a Vodafone customer, and wanted to swap to O2 now as my contract has just expired, so I emailed the to find out if I could get a Nokia now and just switch to the iphone in November, I emailed customer support and got this answer back:

Hello,

Thank you for emailing us to ask if you can upgrade to the Apple iPhone in November within your contract period.

I appreciate your interest in joining our network.

We normally don't give the option to upgrade contracts and change handsets within the contract period. This means if you take a new contract Nokia phone with us now, you won't be able to upgrade to the Apple iPhone in November as per our terms and conditions. However, there may a change in our terms and conditions for iPhone. We're not aware of any changes as of now. If we make any changes to our terms and conditions, it'll be updated on our website once this phone is launched.

I'm sorry I can't help you any further with your query, as all the information we have about the Apple iPhone is already updated on our website. You can refer to the links below for further updates:

I hope I've explained this clearly for you. If there's anything else we can do for you, please reply to this email.

Still a little unclear on this?

You can't cancel upgrades.

I thought as with any purchase in the UK over the phone or internet you had a few days of 'cooling off' time to reconsider your purchase and so could return the phone.

Why would anyone want to switch to the iPhone tariffs? I mean. £35pcm for 200 mins and 200 texts. Thats obsurd.

I'm with O2 on a 12 month contract with a K800i which is now 16 months old so I am due an upgrade. I pay £20 pcm for 1000 mins and 530 texts every month with rollover. Now. If could keep my exsiting tariff and just buy an iPhone that would be a different matter. But there is also the issue of no MMS:(

It wouldn't be such a bad deal if you can get an upgrade for free and then get the iPhone with the iPhone tariff. I get 750 minutes and 750 texts right now for £27 a month on a reduced rate tariff (12 months). I know I'm taking a step down by going to the £45 tariff in terms of minutes and texts but I do get unlimited data and wifi which is more important to me right now. The clincher is that my deal right now covers a subsidised phone, the iPhone deal does not. If I can get an upgrade and then switch to an iPhone tariff the next day then my concerns about the tariff pretty much disappear.

I think they're blagging this reply. The iPhone has never been considered an 'upgrade' and I doubt it'll be available in the upgrade store, I think they're using what knowledge they have of all previous phones. I really don't think this'll be worked out until after release day and it'll probably take a fair bit of arguing to get it the deal we want.

O2, we want people like Leemo there to talk to and give us the deals we want, dammit!!

I think this is bicause they are use to all other mobiles.

i think o2 will offer cheaper prices for the iphone on upgrade or maybe free upgrades if the current customer decided to switch plans but i also know their retention schemes are pretty damn s*&!* so i wouldnt be surprised if they didnt

O2 *can't* offer cheaper iPhones for current customers because they're not allowed to subsidise the iPhone.

As Spanky said, this will not happen. Apple are in control, not o2.

I just got off the phone with o2, and what they said is if you are an existing costumer you need to be due for an upgrade to get the iphone.:mad:

Now I wasnt very confident on this because first, the woman on the phone didn't know that the iphone had its own tariff. she put me on hold and went to speak to here manager. when she came back she read something off the internet that basically said that you needed to be due for an upgrade. I think she was following protocol for standard mobile phones and not from the iphone.

o2 will almost certainly deny contract alterations that mean converting over to an iPhone. Simply because Apple take a huge chunk out of the monthly tariff and it is not reasonable to assume they will allow you to get out of a contractual agreement you are bound to in which they receive all of the money from the tariff.
