Thought I would share the experience with ya'll so you could avoid the same problem if you go in to get AppleCare+ AND swap your phone.
So what does Apple suggest we do if someone was in the same situation? I did not purchase AppleCare+ during pre-order. I will do the same as you did: go to the Apple Store. But what if my iPhone has a defect?

#Team520 with my phone arriving in KY this morning and Import Scan afternoon but delivery for tomorrow.

Remember guys.. UPS regular scheduled route even though it arrives in your state early morning. For me, happens to be around 6:30-7:00pm which works out since nobody is home to sign for it earlier.

Sometimes I think it would be better without all of this tracking access (flights, scans, etc). Many people here were stressed about the whole process when in reality Apple told us to expect the phone between October 1 - 7. Most of us (if not all) will have them by then.

I hope some of you take away a life lesson from this. It might be better not to look at the tracking information. Because of that, many of you took a few days off you life due to the stress. Almost worse then smoking.

I was stressing and smoking a lot of Newports. Ive probably lost a few years tbh

Update:

Picked up my iPhone 6+ 128GB Space Gray (AT&T) from UPS Hub this morning. Got home, set her up and there was one dead pixel in the upper left portion of the screen, but otherwise she was flawless. Not to big of a deal to me in the short term. I was heading to the Apple Store to get a leather case (brown) and AppleCare+ anyway so I figured I could ask about getting a replacement.

I got to the Apple Store, checked in and was told they had 1 replacement for my model on hand and they would do a swap for me right there (SAAAAWEEET!!!).

I tell the Genius who comes to help why I am there, applecare+/case/dead pixel and he says "Let's take care of the swap and then we will get you squared away with everything else." Swap is seamless and 10 min later I have a perfect iPhone 6+. I go to pay for AppleCare+ and my case and they cannot get AppleCare+ to join my phone.

Little did the guy who helped me know, but once you swap out a phone for a "service phone" even though it is brand new, you can no longer get AppleCare+. Fu*K me! I keep my cool speak with the manager for awhile, they take down my number and say there are a couple of options, but they had to place a call to some higher up people behind the scenes to see how to fix this.

On my drive home I get a call from an Genius Bar dude who merges a call with an Apple Tech guy who verifies all my info, serial #, apple ID, etc and we are just about done when he hits a snag. Apparently my iPhone has not generated a "purchase date" in their system yet because it was just activated as a replacement and he will call me back in 24-48 hours to get me all set up. He gave me his personal # with extension if I had any questions. They need a purchase date to verify that the AppleCare+ is being added within the 60 day window. Nonetheless he said he will get me fixed right up as soon as that date populates in their system.

The entire process, sans the AppleCare+ fiasco, was smooth and I had my new phone within 30 minutes. She's a beauty.

This is a great reminder that Apple has certain % of stock just in case a phone comes in faulty, not available for purchase, so if you don't get it, go to another Apple store.

Buy AppleCare+ for the defective phone THEN swap it out. AppleCare+ will then be attached to your original purchase/phone.

Yep. The driver 'attempted to make first delivery' for me.. nope. Never came by. They are calling me within the hour too.

Did you talk to them yet? My bf answered the call and they said they will redeliver the phone by end of day today. Let's see if they keep that promise.

I didn't talk to them yet. My apartment building has FOB key access, so I wonder if that's why he didn't even attempt. The driver made a stop at the leasing office, and I know FedEx and UPS can get a temporary FOB key to stop at a unit if a signature is required.. either the driver was unaware or lazy. Chances are if they tried again tonight/tomorrow same thing would happen.

The receiver name is my father's name, so I'm worried that they won't let me pick it up tonight if I just have them hold it. :/ But I'm also worried that another delivery attempt would just fail.

Yeah. Our apartment has a gate so hopefully our driver gets through to deliver the package. Or maybe we can hang out at the leasing office and catch them :p

My dads phone arrived. Mine will come tomorrow. UPS driver didn't knock, ask for a signature or take the paper I had presigned. He literally tossed the package onto the front porch from about 5-6 feet away. Nice.

Yeah, if they are willing to re-schedule the delivery for tonight I will most certainly be camping out front. :) Here's to hoping we both can finally get our phone!

Did your delivery date update back to 9/25 on your tracking when they said they would re-attempt?

It's been fun 9/25ers...we had alot of ups and downs but we all are headed to the same end result. So far so good with the NO defects but it doesn't matter because I got AppleCare anyway!!! Until next time folks!!!

And it won't count against your 2 replacements for damages? I assume defects are NOT considered accidental damage.

Yeah, I wasn't asked for a signature either . Weird

Correct, defects are replaced under the original warranty. 2 damage replacements are for broken screens, water damage, etc.

On a gut feeling I decided to login to my AT&T account and click My Orders. LOW AND BEHOLD! There is an order there too! I originally placed the order on the 12th with AT&T and then cancelled when they gave me a Oct 30- Nov4 delivery date the morning of the 13th. I had a Reservation with Apple from also trying to order there at 3am est on the 12th so I used that. I got a cancellation email from AT&T, but when I just logged into my AT&T account I see this.

And here is the same order showing on Apple.com

Any experts out there? Can you tell me what is going on?

Not sure on your issue, but grats on Post #11,000 :)

:apple:

Just got my import scan at 1:02. Ironically my delivery date stayed the same (today). I'm not holding my breath though.

Anyone else from Team #520 have their date remain today after the import scan?

Nope, after my import scan of 11:45am my delivery date changed to tomorrow 9/26. I'm in NC.

----------

1:51 KY departure scan

No departure scan here yet.

Fyi I called AppleCare after I received my iPhone 6 Plus and they added AppleCare Plus to my purchase without me having to go to the store to have it inspected. The rep said he had to run a diagnostic on it first, but I hadn't taken it out of the sealed box yet. He said ok, and went ahead and attached AppleCare to my phone. Glad I don't have to hand over my new, pristine iPhone to a store rep to take it in the back of the store to inspect it. I like the "new" to wear off before I do that. :)

Normally, that's true. But stock is so low right now I struck out at the six ARS's closest to me. Each of them said it will be weeks before they have enough to set aside stock for replacements.

Well its been a pleasure posting with you but my time has come and so has my phone until next time folks.:D
