Actually, I think it has been proven that the ability to spell is not a sign of intelligence. There are many lower-IQ individuals with great spelling ability, and some mensa members who are miserable spellers.

You are correct. Being able to spell, using proper syntax and so on has nothing to do with intelligence. It's just a bunch of rules you have to learn and use properly. I don't think you grasp the meaning of the word (intelligence that is).

No new Powerbooks in Denmark yet by the way

Back on topic, if the special event related in some way to movies/videos wouldn't it be a hint that www.apple.com/quicktime does show nothing at all, excluding a single banner ?

Shouldn't it contain some sort of links to further content, events' videos and the likes ? Could this really be some sort of behind the curtains change of the quicktime contents ? It's been like this since three hours now.

Long time viewer... First time poster...

I was scoping out the PowerBook section (Apple Store) yesterday, and stumbled across this intriguing visual. I actually found this yesterday morning before I left for work. When I checked this a few hours later at work (To show a colleague), Apple had reverted back to drop down list. When I checked it at home last night it was changed back to screenshot below. And when I checked it this morning is was drop down lists again.

Keep in mind that the only took place within the PowerBook section. I think Apple may be doing a overhaul on the site as well. Maybe not the look but seems this could spark a big funtionality change. This also may be evidence that we will be seeing new PowerBooks today/tomorrow :)

YOU DECIDE!

It's the same all over from what I can see.

EDIT - No wait, it's back to the drop down menu. It's all very strange, and you can get 100GB drives in Mac minis now. Surely those updates are coming....

And Firefox, and I think Nanosaur 2 is either done or nearly done, oh, and Safari, iLife etc.... :D

My guesses:

1. The Cube comes back from hibernation with a dual CPU, dual core and very silent fan.
2. Dual core Freescale Powerbook, Freescale 7448 iBook
3. Home entertainment system
4. Some form of cooperation with another firm (e.g. in consumer electronics)

Yup, it is like talking to a wall, there are no dual core G4's yet, the 8641D (I think it's 8641, could be 8461) is either not testing yet or only just beginning testing. The best available G4 is the 7448 and that is the chip I believe we'll see in the new PowerBooks.

I too would like to see the return of the cube - hopefully for less $$$ but sad as it is I don't see it happening.

One thing though, if this event tomorrow is for a bloody Madonna iPod I am going to scream.

A bit OT, but since we brought up software, i aint going anywere near to intel until we have native versions of Photoshop, Freehand, Flash etc which might take alot of time... and i refuse to run those titles under Rosetta! Am sure many fellow designers will agree with me on this, i didn't spend a fortune to have my software run under emulation.

Why did i mention this? Because am sure we are gonna see new titles in the Pro software line, more specifically a head to head photoshop competitor from Apple. AfterEffects and Premiere have already been slayed by their apple rivals, and i think PS is next :D Apple said in an old interview that they had no intention of going after Photoshop, since it's considered the industry standard and everybody is happy with it. But hey, it's Apple! Thats EXACTLY what they do best!

So i'd loooove to see PS alternative from apple, not that i would switch immediately but think of the possibilities! Most of the tools and filters are already in FinalCut and Motion, they just have to make a non-motion version of them.

So i think the next one more thing is Apple officially anouncing the death of Adobe :D

I'm afraid I haven't read much of this thread but I would personally like to see a new Mac that sits in between the Mac Mini and the PowerMac that doesn't have a monitor.

I'm almost certainly going to swap my old AMD 2400+ Shuttle for a mac as it is never used for games (I have another PC for that), and I am concerned that the Mac Mini will not meet my requirements while the Power Mac is completely OTT. I have 2 nice Dell flat panel monitors and the Keyboard and Mice I just need a monitor less Mac! :D

No iTunes updates....

By the way, just to mention, following on from my earlier speculations...

The iTunes stores have not been updated today. So you can put money on the fact that there will be some new content/new store (australia?) or new features tomorrow.

I don't think Apple will do this, but I would simply love a single G5 cube. $800 to $1000. I'd buy one immediately.

iMac G5

I think this effects iMac G5's

I have several orders pending in the apple store. Every line item for iMac G5 has been cancelled and re-entered by apple. When I rang to make sure all was OK, the rep said that delivery for current pending iMac orders would start from the 12th through to the 19th with no reason given for the deletions and re-submissions.

Spooky - One more thing could refer to dual iMacs! (One more processor)

I don't think so either. Let's go wild and predict a G5 Mac mini optional at $100 extra.
:D

A home entertainment system would be the best next step for apple to take in my opinion, athough i am in the "apple is neglecting it's power users camp" i am also all for apple dominating any consumer markets it possibly can. imagine a box (asteroid-like) that would take any form of audio and video inputs and also output to any monitor/tv/hdtv. i think this would rock! and also expand apple's appeal tenfold. :)

Interesting..The iMac 20" goes HD

Only 25 hours to go! I am ridiculously excited, I have to admit. If the resolution on the powerbooks gets a bump, I think I will spring for one. I don't want to wait another year when I could be enjoying a new Mac now!

my first post so bear with me...

I dream about buying a powerbook 19" last week! And the buttons felt rubbery like those on cellphones

my predictions are:
1) new powerbook g5  (i know i know it is not going to happen, but just my prediction, rumor doesn't have to be logical does it?),

why? apple finally managed to squeeze g5 into the 15" and 17" and not the 12" because it doesn't fit, and they will drop 12" altogether. That's why the shipping date for 12" remains unchanged. And instead they add 13".

2) ohh regarding that "one more thing"...i will complete the sentence for steve. "ohhh one more thing...we are going back to PPC, scr*w intel".

and now let me stand up and prepare to dodge bullets!

They'll just wipe out WWDC like they did with that season of Dallas many, many years ago? Say it was all a dream? Shipped out developer boxes and porting software for the heck of it? Sounds a bit like something really large and heavy fell on your head during that rubbery dream you had. ;)

I have an odd feeling this will just be Mac Mini updates...:( BUT, I hope it's much, much more! :D And about the new iMac G5s, hopefully it's not true, my brother bought one in August!

Plus a Dual-CPU/Core/Whatever G5 is a bit much for a consumer Mac (iMac G5)...don't you think?

This seems to make sense, this way you can see all the options your Mac can have without clicking. For example if it showed an 80gb HD and I was thinking about a 100gb HD upgrade without even clicking on the hard drive section it would show me that I could upgrade, this could seduce some people to add-on items to their Mac order. Dell's online store does this already and this seems like a smart move for Apple :D

What galls is that "American English" is incorrectly descrbed as "English".

It's corrrect if you're from here. Calling it "English" or "American" is like calling it a "torch" or a "flashlight." Don't get galled by the literal meaning. Actual meaning is key.

I'm from Pennsylvania and I happily speak English. Thanks for the keen language mate.
