Anyone gonna post updates during the event ?

Has anyone said they are going to post live updates during the event tomorrow morning? I would love to know what is happening real time.

Video that has nothing to do with an iPod

Here is my theory, video that has nothing to do with an iPod. Apple video rental (like a Blockbuster On Line) via iTunes over a video airPot controlled by an Apple remote control. The video airPort sits on your TV and relays commands to your Mac via an apple remote control while playing back video downloaded with iTunes. Think about it, why did apple patent a remote control several weeks ago?

Long time viewer... First time poster...

I was scoping out the PowerBook section (Apple Store) yesterday, and stumbled across this intriguing visual. I actually found this yesterday morning before I left for work. When I checked this a few hours later at work (To show a colleague), Apple had reverted back to drop down list. When I checked it at home last night it was changed back to screenshot below. And when I checked it this morning is was drop down lists again.

Keep in mind that the only took place within the PowerBook section. I think Apple may be doing a overhaul on the site as well. Maybe not the look but seems this could spark a big funtionality change. This also may be evidence that we will be seeing new PowerBooks today/tomorrow :)

YOU DECIDE!

Currently, the only computers without the new radio button options are the PMs and PBs. Coincidence? I think not.

Yup, it is like talking to a wall, there are no dual core G4's yet, the 8641D (I think it's 8641, could be 8461) is either not testing yet or only just beginning testing. The best available G4 is the 7448 and that is the chip I believe we'll see in the new PowerBooks.

I too would like to see the return of the cube - hopefully for less $$$ but sad as it is I don't see it happening.

One thing though, if this event tomorrow is for a bloody Madonna iPod I am going to scream.
Just because it doesn't have a ;) doesn't mean it isn't tongue in cheek.

Actually I have a cube sitting next to a mini and the mini is a world of compact goodness while the cube is an iconic piece of design - both of them look good on the shelf but the cube is showing it's age. Frankly if they could get rid of the fan from the mini it would be perfect and 4 of them could probably fit inside a single cube.

Something’s been bothering me about the timing of October 12ths special event. It was on October 12, 1988 that Steve Jobs introduced the NeXT Cube at the Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco. Coincidence?

I don't think so either. Let's go wild and predict a G5 Mac mini optional at $100 extra.
:D
Shoe horning a G5 into a mini is going to be pretty much as non-trivial as getting a G5 into a PB and we all know how well that exercise went. There is no chance we will ever see such a beast and the PowerPC-based mini will max out with the 7448 before moving to Intel.

Lets go really wild and predict Yonah PowerBooks and Minis.

I noticed a slight difference in the Apple Store PB ordering format about 2 days ago, although I didn't really take note at the time. Usually when you BTO Applecare is available at the very bottom (below choosing ram, HDD, processor, optical drive, external monitor, etc.), but there was NO Applecare option at the bottom the other day. When I put the PB into my basket (15" Superdrive w/128MB VRAM), Applecare was available on the next page. Wasn't the same experience as the button menus in the picture that was posted earlier, but rather a reshuffling of which options are available on which pages. It was still pull-down menus. Seems like Apple is experimenting with different shopping cart/BTO formats. I think the button thing is cool though--too many pull-down menus can get annoying, and it's nice to be able to see all the optios laid out right there in front of you.

If the event is tomarrow at 10:00 am, they usually last about an hour. When do you expect they will post the updates on thier website? Would they do it at the beginning of the event or at the end? Does anyone remember how they have done it in the past?

NOBODY TALKS ABOUT a HOME DEVICE... from apple

I was wondering.. wouldn't Apple want to create a HOME device.. like the iPod but for your TV.. i mean.. hard drive, download movies, record TV, play your music wireless through airport ...... a iHome or whatever... i don't know if it was discussed or not.. but it woudl make a lot of sense... no ???

Anybody know what time they'll update and put it on the website (like the new products and/or video)?

For past announcements, the apple store is off-line for the duration of the event or keynote and is usually back on-line within 10-15 from the end of the event. So, for this event, figure by 11:15am Pacific time.

I hope it is done by then, I have to go to school tomarrow, but my lunch is from 11:00 to 11:30, I can sneak into the library and check out apple.com. I can hardly wait!

Re: RAM. My advice would be to buy RAM from someone other than Apple. Apple's RAM is very expensive. If I bought RAM from an online store, then paid $50 for my local computer store to install it, I'd still be way ahead of Apple's prices.

If you don't need the computer today, I'd wait at least until next Tuesday. There are more updates coming. (The "more updates" will be at the very least the Mac Mini being officially updated, with the best-case scenario being updates to the Mini, the Power Mac, and the Powerbook).

Whatever you do, congratulations on the new Powerbook.

No way.. by your token, your advice would be to buy a laptop from Dell, because Apple laptops are underpowered and very expensive.

Buy Apple ram, you won't regret it. Besides, as an added bonus, once you spent that extra buying Apple's ram, you can now have the assurance that your $400 Applecare package will cover your ram as well!

I can't see a smilie anywhere and I'm struggling to believe someone would actually suggest this. Apple RAM is expensive, no question, and it is cheaper to buy and install third party RAM. If you get the correct RAM you should have no problem. Plus with the money you save on RAM you can probably afford an iPod.

BTW, Apple's laptops *are* underpowered and *are* expensive, I don't think that is in dispute. Why else are we all waiting for next Tuesday with baited breath. Check out the buyer's guide for advice on when to buy, there's nothing I hate more than buying a product only to have a new version released the following week.

Thanks :D

And thanks a lot for the advice guys.

generik: If I wasn't short on money I would definatly but the ram off apple and that would dodge all this third party business and it would be insured aswell (good point about that), but I just couldn't stand to spend that much on something i could get for cheaper somewhere else.

Ya you're right that would really piss me off. I'd better hang on for a couple of weeks.

I'll ring up a computer shop and see if they'll sell me some ram and install it.
