iPod touch Oct 14th Event??

i think we will see the ipod touch w/camera. on apple's own website, they don't refer to the "new" ipod touch as the 3rd gen. they say it is late 2009. if it is not the 3rd gen, then obviously they are going to release one.
Not necessarily. The iPod classic is also late 2009, but they're not planning on refreshing that anytime soon either...
Thats exactly what they do with all the macs too. They don't refer them to any specific generation, but by the model when they were released. The new MBP are mid 2009, the macbook I have now is mid 2007. The earliest we will see a iPod TOuch w/Camera..if ever.. will be Jan-March. The holiday lineup is out and that's not going to change in the next 2 months.
Apple isn't willing to face the dissatisfaction of thousands of people that have purchased the new touch within the past 4 weeks. All their items are on a product cycle and thats just how it has been for years.
Take the iPhone. There was a exterior change from the 2G to the 3G. but only interior changes from 3G to 3GS. iPod Touch 1st gen to 2nd Gen had exterior, then 2nd Gen to 3rd Gen has interior.
If it is going to happen, truthfully I don't think anytime sooner than next September.
Also, If i'm not mistaking, isn't the size only big enough for the nano video camera. Therefore it wouldn't even be a still camera, the touch is too thin..
The current one is the 3rd gen, late 2009 or whenever an iPod or computer is released is how Apple refers to it.
I think they name macbooks like that because they refresh them so much. there is like 2 or 3 refreshes every year. Maybe they named the ipod touch like that too because they are going to refresh more than once this year. Like october hopefully. Why would they name the ipod touch late 2009 and the ipod nano 5th gen
Because maybe there will be a mid 2010 update instead of waiting till September 2010. They won't update something 1 month old. That is not Apple, they have never done something like that with hardware, unless there was an actual problem with it. Like i said if its going to come, at the soonest will be Jan-March. Just imagine how ticked everyone would be that just bought the new iPod Touch in the last 5 weeks. It would be a complete disaster.

Scroll down on this page, under specs and just the iPod in general, it states third generation. Like Mrkramer said, its just whatever you want to call it. Either way, nothing is coming before the holidays.
Also if there was another one coming, wouldn't there be something encoded in the software like iPod 3,2? This current one is 3,1 right? So then 3,2 would have to be in there to tell us that there is another model even in the making that will run on 3.1 or 3.1.2
