Yeah, probably.

Oh, and a 45 minute preamble on all the 'updates' they skipped this week..
- stores, apps, iOS share, sales, reminders on iOS 8, etc

Why cover iOS 8 again when by the time iPads are iOS 8 will be a month old.

nobody has mentioned possible event date... I'm going with october 21st, last year it was october 22nd which was on a tuesday, october 21st is a tuesday this year. invites for the event on october 14th.

If there is a major mac screen update I think it will be the Thunderbolt Display rather than iMac.

Apple failed at the with the release of the new Mac Pro. Unless it's a reasonable 4k display, who cares at this point. So many better options in that price range.

I don't really care about specs for the new ipad. I just want an updated one as my 3 gen battery is shot. Other then Touch ID which I guess would be cool I, happy with the current ipad. I don't want to shell out money for something that's going to get updates soon.

i rather have apple take away the ipad camera n use the space for something else. it's just too weird to take pics with my iPad Air

What is wierd about that? Best camera is the one you have in your hand.
Dont let yourself dictate by others...yes i have also seen some pics trying to make fun of people taking photos with ipad and some talks but so what?

It reminds me of the small danish towns when people still turn around and look at you down the street because you talk on the phone with apples white earphones!

If you start thinking about how you look while you take pictures with your ipad ! Its the next craze step after selphie shots:)

i couldn't see apple making a RFID reader anything other than an accessory.

Maybe be an accessory but RFID build in would bennefit many of the worlds largest companys.

Just no boner and U2 mucking things up. That'd be good.

Pretty sure the updates to the iPad will be minimal and as others have said they'll stretch it out to make it look as "amazing" as they can. I'm perfectly good with my current iPad Air, thanks. :)

Really hoping for a rMini update. I really want one, and am holding off at the moment in case I get this one and have to watch a new one coming out a month later.

I shall also not be happy if they decide to keep it a generation behind! (I'd probably just say nuts to them and get an equivalent Android)

iPad Air:
  • 9.7" 2048x1536 display
  • A8 SoC, with the CPU clocked slightly higher than any A8 in the iPhone 6/6+ and iPad mini (see below)
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 16/64/128 GB storage options
  • Touch ID
  • Same prices as the current iPad Air
iPad mini:
  • 7.9" 2048x1536 display
  • A8 SoC, clocked the same as the A8 in the iPhone 6
  • 1 GB RAM
  • 16/64/128 GB storage options
  • Touch ID
  • Same prices as the current iPad mini

I'd be very disappointed if they put only 1GB of RAM on the Mini since that's the model I wanna get. I use a lot of tabs in safari and tab reloading is really an issue
Besides, I want to keep my next iPad for 2-3 years so 1GB of RAM could be a problem with future versions of iOS

Apple don't let me down please...

Remember that ApplePay is going to work for online purchases too. TouchID is a given for the iPads. I'd expect Apple to do a little more to differentiate the Air from the mini, probably in a similar fashion to the subtle differences between the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. I would not expect the larger iPad this October, but that's honestly just a hunch. We'd have seen a part leak by now if it were coming.

Changes I'd expect:
- form factor that mirrors iPhone (curved body w/o chamfer, recessed volume buttons, strengthened glass)
- touchID
- internal spec bumps, most likely including RAM (at least in Air)

Changes I don't expect:
- Gold
- larger iPad

Hopefully they don't make the iPad lineup any more convoluted than it already is. Just imagine:
iPad mini
iPad mini with Retina Display
iPad mini with Retina HD Display
iPad with Retina Display
iPad Air
iPad Air with Retina HD Display

Simplify the line to just iPad mini and iPad Air, none of the extra descriptors.

I would assume the iPad will get 802.11ac, which might be helpful with moving phone calls from your iPhone through your homes wifi network on iOS8

I would also love the bezels on the top and bottom to be brought down to the same size and the side ones. That would make typing with thumbs a lot easier in landscape mode. A small but useful change...

I'm hoping it does take on the new iPhone w/o chamfer look bc when I was handling the Air in the store to compare to my 3, it actually felt kinda sharp on the sides compared to my 3.

New iPad Air and mini
- TouchID
- Curved edge ion strengthened glass

likely. perhaps also a display of the same visual quality as the Phone Plus

The feature I would really like to see is repairability. I'm shocked that they still haven't made an iPad that can be opened, forcing us to pay for a full swap for every little thing.

New iPad Pro 12"
- RFID reader, Apple Pay processor for small businesses. Or probably just let soneobe make a Lightning attachment.

Unlikely. Frankly at this point I think this iPad Pro is a pipe dream. Less likely to appear than a real tv set

New AppleTV?

yes but it will be a STB with the best bluetooth and wifi, better graphics and perhaps more storage. but essentially the same as the last two. The real improvements would be on the service side. things like h.265 support for better quality files. hopefully Apple pushing HBO etc for direct subscription.

New Macs?

perhaps. it is about the time of the last iMac update. But I wouldn't get too excited about how they might be updated. It's not likely to be something super huge

A given
  • Touch ID
  • A8
  • LTE-A
  • AC WiFi

High possibility
  • 2GB RAM
  • iPhone 6 curved design
  • iPad Air: Retina HD, anti-glare screen, slightly thinner/lighter
  • iPad mini: significantly (30%) thinner/lighter

I'm guessing it won't be that convoluted. The original Mini and iPad with Retina Display will probably be dropped from the lineup since Apple seems to only keep two versions of each at one time (plus that gets rid of A5 and A6 chips for the iPad line). They could go numbered, by generation, or even use retina HD display to differentiate. I think iPad mini 3 and iPad Air 2 keeps it the simplest.

Gold option for iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3.

Retina HD display for both.

Thinner, lighter, better camera and specs (A8 and so forth).

When new ones are announced/released will current ones drop in price? Thinking of getting mini for coaching, but don't want to now if they drop in price in month and a half. Not to worried about spec upgrades, just price drop

predictions:

updated ipads. same shell just with touch id and a8 processors. 16/64/128 capacities to mirror the iphone's offering. no additional screen sizes.

updated ipods (bold, i know). i don't think they're dying just yet. ipod touch will keep 4" screen but will have a7 processor (similar to a 5s but without touch id).

Yes. Apple doesn't always offer the previous generation for sale (beyond refurbished offerings, which should receive a price adjustment), but other retailers will be forced to discount their stock.

It would be the simplest but the current Air won't just be disbanded. Not this early in the game. I still think it's gonna be a mix mash lineup for the iPads.

And, the pesky iPad 2 will still be offered which is actually cool. I had one and my daughter is still rocking with it today. It's even slated to get iOS 8!

I don't think they will, not in huge ways. The guts will be the same, save things that are just a part of one being bigger than the other. With the iPhone 6 Plus, the size made OIS possible because they had room for the extra space needed. Which will be the case for both iPads. So if they put it in one, they will put it in the other. Same with putting in a flash etc.

I think the guts of the iPhones and the iPads will be essentially the same other than such small differences. And perhaps a lack of NFC in the iPads because it just doesn't make sense for someone to pull out an iPad to pay for something. Since the Apple Watch will compensate for early iPhones lacking NFC, it can take that role for those with iPads as well.
