Control-click or right-click on the icon and select Get Info (shortcut for this is Command-I). In the top left corner of the Info window you'll see the icon. Click on it and it will highlight blue. Now copy the icon you want from a Finder window and simply paste it in where your default icon is highlighted.

Nice and Simple :)

Your screen looks vastly washed out, I would suggest going to System Preferences>Displays>Color and click on Adobe RGB. That should make you monitor display a much richer in color and should be more "color correct".

If you follow the link i just quoted, you'll see that its a wallpaper modification.

'Tis not my colour!

I just looked at the default apple version, and I forgot how dark it was, I've had this wallapaper for agesssssssss now!

:)

Ahhhhhhhhh!

Sorry, my mistake. I (obviously) presumed it was the original Mac desktop. I feel better now knowing that you're not using generic color space or whatever happens to be the default washed out space. ;)

Psst — a colour profile wouldn't show up on a screenshot anyway, only a photo... :D

Pssst, color space and profiles are different ;)

If someone (like my friend constantly does) takes a screenshot, it looks completely different, his black and whites turn out pink when viewing on my screen. This is mainly because his photoshop is set to sRGB space and when he saves he embeds it (after resizing)

Ah, interesting. I didn't realise they'd embed the colour space in a screenshot, although, thinking about it, that does makes sense. :D

Colorsync can make up for it, I think. Actually, you have me a little confused now, I'm just going to do a test :p

Screenshot>photoshop>browser>Colorsync viewing can be a bit difficult to perfect :D

EDIT: Open This in one tab and This in another and toggle them. I could do one in sRGB and it would probably look a little pink, but for now, that illustrates it being lighter. Depends how you have PS set-up also, I suppose.

It is confusing, especially when I'm only on my first coffee of the day. :p I will be most interested in the results of your test, because colour profiles have always been a source of confusion for me. :D

I've worked with them for years and they still confuse me in some situations. I've got my complete workflow all managed, and as long as I don't tinker it should stay that way, so I just "mind my elbows" and hope for the best, always comes out right *pats trusty Mac on the head*.

Results above

Well that is interesting, because they're both absolutely identical on mine. I can't see any difference at all in either colour or brightness.

*Evil laugh*

The generic one is much brighter to me. Try dragging them into photoshop (using any embedded profiles).

Your colorsync might just be correcting the other one to your space.

I think it must be, because when I put them in Photoshop the difference is there. I should really look into this in more detail I think, because that implies I've got the whole thing set up all wrong. <sigh> And there I was going to spend the afternoon drinking coffee and pissing around on the internet. :p

If you need any help, I know "a thing or two" (by banging your head against the wall for a couple of years, you have to learn - or you get brain damage!) so don't hesitate to PM.

Thank you, that's very kind of you to offer. I'll have a bash at it and I may well send you a frustrated PM later on.
