It would most likely be Nvidia , because rumors are going around that they are using a nvidia chip set. So i dont think can slot in an ATI card into a nvidia set right ?

I've visited some of our local Apple stores and talked a little with the guys that work there. All of them are sure that we're going to see nVidia. However I think that they don't have any actual info and that are just their guesses that have the same value as all the rumors around here .

Either a 9650 GT or an ATI card comparable to that.

There isn't a comparable ATI card, the 3600s are all a lot worse and the 3800s a lot better. It'll be the 9650 GT if apple want to give us value for our money, or ATI 4600s if they're out IMO..

I am not going to buy an MBP with any nVidia inside and I'd be very glad if Apple gives us a hint about their plans. Because as soon as I know they are placing nVidia inside, I take my money and go to any of several computer stores near me and buy any laptop with ATI. :) And on the other hand if they are placing ATI inside, waiting is not a problem for me. I've been waiting for 3 months already and I will be veeeeeeeery disappointed if after all they choose nVidia.

So what operating system the laptop runs is less important than the manufacturer of the video card? This only makes sense if you are going to replace OS X with Windows. Is that your plan? Then you probably ~should~ be buying a PC instead of a Mac. Go do it, nobody is stopping you.

If you're worried about graphics capabilities, you shouldn't be getting a Mac, period.

You also shouldn't be replacing your perfectly capable $2,000+ laptop just because it can't run Unreal Tournament to your satisfaction.

That's utterly ridiculous.

Apple already push it in the cost per performance thing anyway.

Its time we got a better GPU as per other manufacturers.

Im not talking stupid numbers, but 10k 2005 Marks which my 30 month old X1900XT does with ease is quite easy really, its less than double the performance of the current card.

I'd like the new ATi chips in there.

No, :) OS is one of the main things why I am going to buy an MBP. Yes, I will be using Win from time to time because I still play games. But my era of hard gaming is already in the past and I run games 1-2 times per month :) Frankly speaking I don't understand how this is related to GPU. Great OS won't keep me happy if I have a faulty GPU because the second thing I want to have is reliable hardware. And thinking of all the nVidia rumors I heard, this company doesn't seem very reliable to me. :)

Congrats, I couldn't follow your post.

Every company that has been using the faulty NVidia chips has a giant exposure out there. Some of them have done a better job of taking responsibility for it, however, than Apple.

Buy a used MBP with ATI in it (2.33GHz Core 2 Duo), and be happy with the cost savings and with the hardware and then upgrade down the road. If you have to have the latest and greatest, but you don't care whether it is Windows or Mac, then I can't answer your question for you, because you are chasing specs, not real work.

Wait a sec, this last idea is very interesting. I browsed the site of our local reseller and all the generations of laptops they have are provided with nVidia. Dunno why but I made a conclusion that all MBPs have nVidia. I'll look closer at that ATI generation. Thanks for your help! :)

I have a 2.16 and it is very stable.

Cheers,

I found that MBP on the apple.com site. Unfortunately all our stores don't have this model already so if I decide to buy, I'll have to order online.

So thanks to the new discoveries now I don't have much time to wait. Unfortunately I don't have my money available right now because when I started this waiting game, I put it in the bank. But the term ends in the first days of October and if apple doesn't release new MBP with ATI, I am buying this one. It's so sad that I didn't have this info a few months ago

Not sure if you can buy from the Apple store in the Ukraine, but they have a 2.33 17" refurb for sale

Yes, I've been looking exactly at the MBP your link is pointing to :)
I haven't checked about shipment to Ukraine but I hope they do that. Because if they don't, I'll have no other choise but to give up. It won't be a tragedy because I am going to make a long visit to the USA next summer-autumn but I'll be a little disappointed :)

I don't know what graphics card it will come with....

but

1. I'm pretty sure these newer models will be buggy, as all new released models are.
2. They'll come out with another one in less than a year, which will be slightly better but comes with less problems.
3. You see all those other notebooks out there with GOOD graphic cards? You see how much bigger they are than the current MBPs.. and now Apple is saying they'll be thinner?
3a. If they do put a really good gpu in there, do you have any idea how underclocked it would be to keep it cool due to the lack of space?

Search around, it's much easier for you to search using mroogle than for us to lob the same information at you that has already been thrown all over this forum.

i dunno
seemed pretty easy for you to take the "jerk on a forum" route and give that smart ass, unhelpful remark
:)

Build a man a fire and he stays warm for the night, teach a man to build a fire and he stays warm for the rest of his life.

So true, if you can't help yourself, why should other people help you? What you get out of life (And MacRumors :p) is directly related to what you put into it.
