First, it's not wrong (notice SHOUTING wasn't required ) - it's the procedure recommended by Apple. To avoid digressing into talking about multiple ways of adding the partition, it's easier to use the word need, especially when you can't make assumptions about the experience of the OP.

Yes, DiskUtility (or diskutil) will create the new partition, but for those less versed in using DiskUtility (or, cl tools), it's just easier to let Boot Camp Assistant guide them through the installation process.

I would say the same about removing the partition. It's less error prone to use Boot Camp Assistant for the inexperienced.

I totally agree that for the inexperienced, BCA does make setting up a dual boot much simpler, but then you did say "Using Disk Utility won't create a bootable Windows partition.", which is actually wrong.

My bad.

Although… I could stretch the point because they'd miss the step-by-step help BCA provides to get them to a bootable partition. ;) (guess I can't really back-paddle out of that one)

Wanted to input my advice. I had to get rid of Bootcamp so I could have more space on my horrendous 128GB SSD in my MBA. I had to boot into the Recovery Partition (I have Mavericks on here) and then Repaired the Drive then went to extend the size of Macintosh HD.

That did it for me and +1 for a old thread that got me somewhere! :)
