do what now?

I've gotten Visa and Amex to reimburse me for the original apple tv $329 out of warranty repair. Apple charges me $169 for refurb apple tv 160gb.

I sent in copy of my receipt along with us apple warranty program (u download warranty on apple website).

I fill out piece of paper from visa.

3 weeks later visa reimburses me entire $169 plus taxes that I paid apple for the refurb apple tv.

Also worked me my laptop repair. $485 to fix motherboard.

That's why there is no need for AppleCare warranty. Your credit card takes care of 2nd year warranty.

Obviously u can't water damage or drop your phone and shatter it. But warranty covers wear and tear like the power button etc.

First, I am a guy haha. I just have an asian girl as my avatar. Secondly, I am not looking for ways to 'get them' to fix my iPhone. I was just wondering what are the odds' of them fixing my phone/replacing it for such a small problem. I would not mind paying $149 for a refurbish, cept I would prefer to save my $ atm for my summer trip.

I think people are just tired of folks wanting something for nothing, which seems to happen a lot here.

Which happens a lot everywhere nowadays. My bet is these snarky folks aren't as likely to make such comments when they encounter those kinds of people outside of forums. Crazy how bold a keyboard can make us.

I've seen Apple geniuses pull all kinds of generous acts. If they don't want to fix it right away, be creative on their support line. The customer is ALWAYS right. Apple didn't get to where they are today with bad service. They're usually great when you're within warranty and even if you aren't they don't try to rip you off. My cousin completely shattered his screen, took it into an apple store (with no applecare) and the genius replaced it for free. He told my cousin "****** happens" and didn't charge him anything.

I think you are wrong.

If your phone had been broken or stolen (mine was stolen this week), you too would first explore the possibility, however small/remote, of getting an out of warranty replacement, before paying for a brand new sim-free one.

Just got back from Apple store. Had to pay $149 to get a refurbished one. The lady said something about the fact that the the power button being faulty is more than just a simple open and pop it back out. So she had to give me a refurb and charge me $149 lol. Should of gotten AppleCare and saved myself a bit more $.

Damn apple way over charges.. find a local guy to fix

or sell it

The $149 out of warranty replacement fee covers any type of damage. It could be that the screen is completely cracked, that it was dropped in a toilet and won't turn on, etc . . . I actually think it's one of Apple's nicer offerings, given that you can't get that deal if you just wanted to outright purchase a phone. I broke a phone once a long time ago (before smart phones), and the cheapest bare-bones replacement phone without subsidies was hundreds of dollars.

I wonder what other smartphone manufacturers offer in terms of replacement phones, anyone know?

If you had bought Applecare you would have already been out $69.99.
