4G as in HSPA+ or LTE?
If its HSPA+, I doubt there will be a plan increase with AT&T since they don't charge more on the Atrix or Inspire. But correct me if I'm wrong, Verizon doesn't charge more $ for LTE so perhaps AT&T will follow Verizon on that one. I'll be upset if AT&T forces us on an LTE plan because, quite frankly, the 3G speeds are all that I need for what I use my phone.
+1 Right on. The current LTE chips are battery hogs at the moment and that is something Apple does not like. The original iPhone allegedly didn't have 3G due to battery consumption of 3G chips at the time.
If that's true, I can't see the iPhone 5 having 4G. My friend has an HTC Thunderbolt and that thing has horrible battery life. I'm betting Apple will wait until 4G chips are less power hungry.
(I'm assuming the battery issue is 4G related. HTC isn't new to this, so they should know how to make a phone with decent battery life, other things being equal.)
Edit: Also, AT&T's LTE network might not be and running by the 5's release. Hopefully they'll add HSPA+ at the very least.
I really hope it does get 4G. I also hope that 4G comes with unlimited data because it's almost pointless if it doesn't. If for some reason iPhone 5 doesn't have 4G, it would defiantly be because not many places have 4G yet. Why else wouldn't they do 4G?!
That's not really a good reason at all as LTE coverage expands with time. If anything it would be the newness of the network and power issues.....newness meaning technical stuff with chips and deployment.
