How and where do you sell the phones to get that amount of money for them?

Purchased a total of 15 32GB "Device Only" iPhones yesterday from the Legacy Village and Crocker Park stores in Cleveland over several trips with the help of some friends. Picked up one 64GB phone for myself. Popped in a China Unicom SIM, connected to iTunes, and successfully unlocked all of them.

Already sold all the 32GB phones for 9,800RMB ($1,536) each for a nice profit; they're on their way back "home" now. :D

Employees seemed to know exactly what was going on and didn't care. One even joked, "And let me guess, you don't want AppleCare on these?"

I don't want to do anything like try 15 of them - but a a couple could be nice to help offset the cost of the unlocked phones.

For those who have the 4S working on Tmobile US, which features work and which don't?

1. Can MMS messages be sent (regular not iMessage)?
2. Does FaceTime authenticate properly and connect?
3. How is Siri performance on EDGE speeds?
4. Is tethering or wifi hotspot possible?

Thanks!

1. Yes. Those work after you set the appropriate t-mobile settings.
2. Yes. I tested this last night.
3. Not bad in my opinion.
4. Yes. I tested this also.

How do you get incoming MMS pictures to work?

I've tried everything....... twice.... i can't get it to.

Can anyone else post EDGE speeds for iPhone 4s on T-Mobile? The one poster above used the SpeedTest photos but they aren't showing up anymore.

Also, for the person who recommended H2O wireless, can you get 3G speeds on that network or is it also EDGE?

This is what i have but i cannot receive pictures. It says: "The media content was not included due to a picture resolution or message size restriction."

I am receiving the exact same error message and I've tried every variant of the MMS settings to get this to work. The funny thing is that receiving video messages work but pictures dont. Hopefully someone will find a solution to this problem.

Anyone had luck reserving a phone for the next day? If so which one do you pick? just regular AT&T or is there an option for "off contract AT&T"
I tried calling the store to see if i could just "walk in" and get one and they were asking what kind i needed and told me they chance of me getting one was "1%"..lol damn asshats

When I take a a photo and send it to myself by MMS it comes through. Is this the case for you? Or is it when someone else sends you an attachment?

I never had a need to send myself an MMS :) but I tried and that did work. When people send an MMS to me I can receive video messages but not pictures.

I tried those setting first also, but they did not work for me. I called T-mobile support and the guy gave me these settings: (note that 3 fields are different)

APN: epc.tmobile.com
Username: <Leave Blank>
Password: <Leave Blank>
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
(Mobile link not intended for desktop browsing)
MMS Proxy: <Leave BLANK> <--- different
MMS Max Message Size: 214743647 <--- different
MMS UA Prof URL: http://www.apple.com/mms/uaprof.rdf

Also,
Set the APN under "Internet Tethering" to: epc.tmobile.com

When you send the photo to yourself it goes through imessage unless you have imessage turned off.

Do you guys with tmobile have a red dot with no number on the phone icon. I don't have any voicemail setup and i get a red dot all the time and it says i have one voicemail waiting when i restart. Just got a new sim a couple days ago too.

I still can't receive pictures in MMS with these settings......

I don't even know what iMessage is so unless it defaults to turning on itself then I don't use it.

T-mobile actually replaced my sim yesterday and I did get the voicemail red dot and when I called to retrieve the message I didn't hear anything and the red dot didn't go away. I called my mobile on a landline and left a voicemail. Once I listened to it on the iPhone and deleted the message, the 'other' red dot disappeared.

Yea it is on by default i'm pretty sure.... i don't think i turned it on on mine....

imessage sends your sms/mms through apples server instead of through your carriers system if it senses that the number/email youre sending the message to is associated with an apple product running imessage.

I think by default the mobile number is associated to imessage and you can add your email also.....

iPhone 4s T-mobile MMS FIX!!!!

I still can't receive pictures in MMS with these settings......

I found the FIX!

1. Install iBackupBot - http://www.icopybot.com/itunes-backup-manager.htm

2. Open up iTunes and backup.

3. Close iTunes.

4. Open iBackupBot and select the last backup you made.

5. Find and open the file named "com.apple.mms_override.plist" It was towards the bottom in my case.

6. Delete the contents of that file and replace with this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
<key>MMS</key>
<dict>
<key>GroupModeEnabled</key>
<false/>
<key>MMSC</key>
<string>http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc</string>
<key>MaxMessageSize</key>
<integer>1048576</integer>
<key>MaxRecipients</key>
<integer>10</integer>
<key>MaxVideoBitrate</key>
<integer>131072</integer>
<key>Proxy</key>
<string>216.155.165.50:8080</string>
<key>UAProf</key>
<string>http://www.apple.com/mms/uaprof.rdf</string>
<key>UserAgent</key>
<string>SonyEricssonW800i/R1L</string>
</dict>
</dict>
</plist>

7. Save and close iBackupBot.

8. Open up iTunes and restore, and sure you use the same backup instance.

9. Make sure data roaming is turned on. My APN for both data and MMS is epc.tmobile.com

10. Test it out - it should work!

Thanks for posting that! Can you live with those speeds? I'm trying to decide if I should finally leave T-Mobile after 9 years and go to H2O Wireless for their 3G or stick it out on T-Mobile EDGE.

I've used an iPhone with t-mobile for 2 years now. Safari works on EDGE but it is slow and I have patience. I don't (CAN'T) stream music or video because of EDGE speeds but the phone is also an iPod so no problems with lack of music. I have my reasons for sticking with t-mobile and they outweigh the lack of 3G for me. And then there's always wifi for the times I do want to stream data.

You need to buy a $200 noka e71 first...not for everyone

I have had a different experience with EDGE service on T-Mobile with an iPhone. While the web browsing is a little slow, it's not unbearable, and I am able to stream Internet music on my drive home just fine. I use Pandora and even have the "Use higher quality audio" option checked. Your mileage may vary, but EDGE has been very good for me in the San Diego area.

I've been using unlocked iPhones on T-Mobile since the first unlock was available for the 2G and I've been very happy with the service, and savings :)

Could you post your speeds, please? I'm curious as to what you are getting. I'm in So Cal as well, but a bit further north in O.C.

Thanks to everyone

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who posted here- it really helped!

I'm British, in the US for a few months. Wanted to develop some apps on the 4S, but it said unlocked not available till November! A contract is obviously no good for me, so I'd given up; then I noticed this discussion.

Thanks to the advice here, I reserved a 16GB at the Upper West Side NYC Apple Store, then asked for 'off-contract' when I came to pick it up. Sales assistant said no problem, and I watched her tap 'device only' from a list of options. I paid $649 plus tax, then left.

Got it home, chose to setup with iTunes rather than on the device. I was wary of leaving the AT&T it came with in, so I extracted it- but iTunes said a valid SIM was required. I have no other SIMs with me, so I thought I'd go for it with the AT&T one (could always return the phone!), and just got the unlocked message that others have posted

Haven't yet tried it with any other SIM, but I feel confident it'll work- every step so far has matched other people's descriptions. And if it doesn't, I can just return it.

Thanks again for everyone posting!
