Strange the option to create a PST file isn't available. This means once you go Mac, you can't go back. A person can't decide the Mac isn't for them and go back to a cheap PC and use Office 2010 and expect to transfer all their Mac Outlook email over to their PC.

Can you use dropbox or similar service to host a pst file that outlook on you Mac and pc can access?

is there anyway to have read receipts in outlook? i'm so disappointed i can't find any option for email tracking...any solutions guys?

From what I've seen...no. There used to be a hack you could do in Entourage to generate read receipts (Google it) - not sure if it'll work in Outlook...the other issue with the hack was it was all or nothing...when used all your messages requested read receipts, you couldn't turn it on and off per message.

G'day

I wanna bitch about Outlook 2011. It is 11pm and I am at breaking point!

Having just got Entourage tamed (after a migration from Mail), I am back to square one on a few things. Any hints greatly appreciated.

A. Resend - Well, you have heard about this one already. I found resend a handy little feature. I could go through my inbox and if I hadn't got a response that I was expecting from someone I could do a resend with a note "Joe, I sent this the other day. Anything more you waiting on from me?", etc. I think you can now do the same with a reply all. I also used it to reuse a message. For example, if I had drafted a long email and wanted to send something similar to someone else, I'd resend, change the recipient and so on. I know I can do this with cut and paste, but it is a shame to have lost it.

B. Arranging Messages - To keep all my related emails in subfolders, I get everything that comes in on a client file and everything that goes out to move into a subfolder. I now find that when I open those folders it only shows me received mail. If I want to see sent mail I need to do conversation view or click on the mail that I replied to. This causes me hell when I go to print, 'cause I need to print chronologically. Organising by conversation screws up my method. Maybe someone can help me find a way to list all the messages.

C. Printing messages - Brings me nicely to printing messages. In Entourage I could select a bank of messages and print. Each would print individually. Now they all print on one long document (missing out the sent messages). Anyone know how to set so it prints one message per page. I know there is a setting in Outlook for PC, but can't find it here.

D. Finding mail - When I did a search in Entourage it came up with a list of messages and showed the folder they were in. I still get the list, but I can't get it to show the folder. I sometimes accidentally drag-drop messages in the wrong folder. My old system was a useful check.

E. Signatures - I have 3 mail accounts and 3 signatures. I can't get them to automatically appear like they did in Entourage. I have set them all as defaults, but no luck.

F. Customisation - I must be missing something, but customising a lot of stuff seems to be impossible. For example, how can I set default meeting length to 1 hour instead of 30 minutes.

The list goes on I'm afraid. I'm really sorry I upgraded. I run my own business and productivity is right out the window. I reckon I am losing 1 to 2 hours a day on this stuff. That's 20% of my time wasted.

Not happy Microsoft!

One positive thing that I have noticed is that the applications are a bit more responsive from the dock. On my previous machine the apps would take several seconds (sometimes 10) to come to life just so I could close them. I would frequently see "application not responding". I switched Macs at the same time so not sure but I'll give the benefit of the doubt.

The presenter tools is still irritating me.

Yesterday I got a maxed out MBA 13" and installed Office 2011 on it. After the initial start up Word is instant when starting. Excel takes a few seconds. They're also more responsive after start up.

I would be happy if I could import a PST file from Win Outlook 7.
Mine shows the import progress, then crashes about the time the calander is starting to import.
Therefore, Mac Outlook 11 is useless to me, for I need almost all of the functions of Win Outlook 2007.
I am running Win XP with VM Fusion.

Office for Mac Isn’t an Improvement. ...
But the new Find/Replace panel in Word is broken, too. You can’t tab from the Find box to the Replace box — you have to click the mouse in each box. And even then, the Macro recorder simply doesn’t record search/replace operations. (Microsoft taught me about a workaround: you can use the Advanced Search box, if you know how to find it. But you won’t find that in the online Help.)
I too find this version somewhat crippled. I do a lot of editing of documents written by other people and translation (Japanese to English). The Advanced Search box cannot be assigned a key combination or given an icon in the tool bar. You have to open it from the Edit/Search/Advanced ... menu. This used to open up easily with "Command F" which now takes you way up north to the Google-like search bar. This is a jarring break in work flow, and that search bar is almost useless except for the most basic "next down" search. The "Shift Command+H" does open the Search Sidebar but again there are issues with the functions provided there. The most useful Advanced Search box is the hardest to get to, and no customization available. Not:cool:
Makes you wonder if the MS team even tries to use their own product or conducts real user interface tests.
Word does seem faster than the 2004 version, but it has text display issues at the end of pages in a long document over 1200 pages, and other problems too, as many have noted. Come on MS get the basics right first!

Outlook

Cons:

· No return receipt
· No plugin for Hotmail account (available in Windowze)
· No Resend
· No option to reply in blue color (as far as I know...)

Pros:

· Faster than Entourage

Word:

Runs fine

Excel:

Pros:

· Finally the formula bar has been fixed :) now stays where should be.
· Seems faster

Cons:

For my light work I haven´t find any trouble so far...

I also tried to assign "Command-F" to the Advanced Find/Replace window and found that not possible, but it is possible to assign "Command-Control-F". That brings the window right up, and Control-Tab alternates among the three tabs at the top (another reader complained that it was no longer possible to "Tab" from one tab to the next).

They have just installed it on the macs at college, and I was looking forward to using it having hAd to put up with office 2008 for ages.

What can I say? It's dire. Not only is it as slow and buggy as 2008, but now thanks to this "ribbon," I have no idea how to use the software. It's a total mess, and I feel sorry for windows users if this is what they have to try and work out how to use.

I shall not be moving from iWork anytime soon.
