Normal.dot is the standard template. I would NOT change this - I'm unsure Word 2011 will rebuild if deleted - but changing this even in the windows world causes issue down the road. Rename the Normal.dot to Normal.dot.OLD for safe keeping and create a new one saving your preferences.

Yup it is always smart to back-up normal.dot. I change mine immediately, however, to reflect how I like my default word document...

Hey guys, I'm getting a 197KB thing in my trash folder called "wkresources" occasionally on reboot.

Since installing, anyone have any idea what that is?

The exact same thing is happening to me.

Me too.

What's this all about??

I've emptied the trash bin a few times, but this thing keeps popping up...?

Am I the only one having trouble with shortcuts?
Command-V, copy-paste simply do not work.
This happened to betas too, but I hoped that it would be done right to the final version.
But as I can see, the problem still exists.
Nobody has this problem?

Well, i can confirm that you are not the only one anymore. Word has started acting out on me last week. It happens across multiple documents. I start working and after a couple of minutes cmd+x +v +c stop working. I don't know what's your case but i have an add-on, Endnote x4.02, I hope that's not the one causing the issue because i'm really not inclined to uninstall it!

So if anyone has any ideas to fix it?

Can you test the following for me in excel 2011 :

1) is it possible to hyperlink a tekst in a cell which points to another file wich is NOT located in the same directory as the excel dokument?

2) do macro's made in Excel for Windows also work in Excel for Mac ?

I've got the pleasure (thanks to Tristangage) to get my hands on the retail version of Office 2011. Yes, it's the retail version, not beta. I know it's not being released for another month.

I haven't had much time to play around with it as I got it today but so far, the experience has been nothing more but positive. The apps feel very responsive. Actually, it feels like I'm using Office in Windows  Outlook seems to be pretty equal to the Windows version.

I don't know what to test so please ask if you have anything on your mind that I could try. I've included a screenshot of every app, feel free to take a look!

1) This seems to work, but not completely. When I first create the link it works fine but when I "save" the file, Excel converts the link to a relative path instead of absolute. This also works until I close the file. After I reopen it the link fails. In Preferences - General - Web Options, if you clear the checkbox "Update links on save" then the link continues to work.

2) I never made any Windows macros so I can't say for sure that they work but I can say the there are some differences in macro support between Excel for Mac 2011 and Excel 2007 on Windows. On the Mac, the Find method doesn't work in a user defined function but it does work as a regular macro. Here, "doesn't work" means it fails to find the string it's looking for. On Windows, the same user defined function works unchanged (that is, it does find the string). The other difference I found is that the list of supported Workbook events is different. Excel for Mac 2011 adds one event: NewChart, but is missing 10 events present in Excel 2007: AfterXmlExport, AfterXmlImport, BeforeXmlExport, BeforeXmlImport, PivotTableCloseConnection, PivotTableOpenConnection, RowsetComplete, SheetFollowHyperlink, SheetPivotTableUpdate, and Sync. SheetFollowHyperlink is the one I was interested in using.

Does anyone know how to install the Data Analysis pack in Office 2011 for Mac? This feature is easily available for additional installation in the PC version through the Add-In option but this doesn't exist in the Mac? What gives? Is it somewhere else?

Data analysis pack is handled by third parties such as statplus and others… I haven't been able to find the old vb stuff that used to come with it…. office is becoming less and less “dissapointing” with each release, but its still aways off from being as good as the windows version….

So far I'm unimpressed, coming from the clean lines of Entourage.
Can anyone point to the previous poster's question about the progress bar (I know it can be brought up in a window, that's not ideal)?

And, the ribbon has so much useless crap in it - but I can't turn it off because the useful crap is there too - I don't need the meetings/junk/categories/filter - can i turn any off there?

Amen to all three points!

The status/progress bar is desperately needed. Is there one? How do you turn it on?

And how do you bring it up in a window? Not ideal as you say but better than nothing.
