Just a quick question, we use microsoft publisher from time to time (wife has 2003, I have 2007)

It didn't look like 2011 offered anything similar. (unless word can do that kind of stuff now)

Can anyone confirm? Am I just going to need to bootcamp/VM it to use my older office products?

Thanks!

One feature I still miss about Outlook is displaying Spam box msgs by itself - I still have to manually click on the Spam folder and only then it will show any new mails that it might contain. Why doesn't it work by itself just like displaying new mail in Inbox?

Biggest dissapointment for me is syncing outlook calendar, as far as i can see there is no support for this, will sync contacts no problem, but no good without the calendar sync, gutted

^^ Sorry, I don't have time to provide a list but if you look around Outlook you'll find features lacking.
edit: ...and I already listed quite a few missing features. We don't use Exchange so Exchange integration isn't a big deal.

Here's another missing feature, unless I'm mistaken, there is no way to see full internet email headers and page source.

I'm not going to be installing it due to the Exchange issue. But surely you can do a quick spot list. I can't imagine it taking you longer than 2 minutes, seriously.

Since it seems as though Nadyne and Schwieb from MacBU are monitoring this thread, I'd like to ask them an honest question...

What Microsoft Office 2011 solution could you offer up to those of us with multiple computers and / or smartphones who wish to keep our calendars, contacts and emails in sync between devices?

Note that I currently use MobileMe.

I consistently hear from my clients (who are in Windows-based environments using Exchange Server) that emails sent from Mail have strange formatting - fonts are different, tabs and columns don't come across the same, bullets and numbering are sometimes off, etc. I also bemoan that iCal doesn't have the robust calendaring I need. For these and many other reasons, I was so looking forward for Office 2011 and specifically, Outlook. Now, as I understand it I won't be able to keep my desktop, laptop and iPhone in sync.

Again, what would you do in my situation?

Give it time, they're working on incorporating it as we speak. I'm in the same boat, only I use Google for my contact/calendar syncing between Mail/Outlook, my Palm Pre, and Gmail.

Got hold of this yesterday, handy uni getting it for staff before the release :).

Made Word and Excel crash twice each when all I was doing was customising the UI - toolbars & menus. I was disappointed, expecting more crashes than that! That interface still has plenty of other issues as well, not least of which is the 10-year-old bug that it shrinks the main Word window but then doesn't grow it back on closing the customise dialog.

Haven't managed to get PowerPoint to crash yet but I still hold out hope! It is much nicer with ribbon rather than formatting palette, and it actually saves window position and layout ... almost, hallelujah!

The release version of Messenger is less buggy than the beta from March, which is really nice. The message alerts don't quite work as I expect - I guess it's my own fault for having bouncing in the dock disabled system-wide, but the badge on the dock icon tends to not go away - actually much like the flashing taskbar listing in XP for Messenger! Is there a way to disable the badge?

Word does now seem to save 'paste as PDF' correctly in docx format - nice not having to use doc for that! I still get graphical corruption in the formatting characters with scrolling though, and that was one of my requests for them to fix in the forums here :(. I guess not the best ... forum ... for such things :D.

help!

I've got a big problem using Powerpoint 2011 on my mac. When I press "slide show" the screen just goes black.
If I click enough I get back too my editing screen, but I can't see any slides in the slide show view.

I've looked at the settings for the slide view, and can't make it work in any way... I also don't have a second screen or anything, just my recent Macbook Pro 15" i5.

Can anybody please help me out? Can't find anything in the help file, nor on the website...

Actually, if I use the presenter view, I do see what the next slide will be. But I don't see the current slide... (the left square where the current slide should be is just black)

Archiving in Outlook 2k11

Nadyne,
I haven't been able to find an archiving function similar to that of Outlook for PC? ie: a way to archive individual folders (ie: sent items, deleted items, etc).

if this is possible, is it also possible to define where this archive is being saved to?

1 and 2 are both yes. Check the preferences in Outlook.

If I were still in school I'd care for the other applications but it's so nice to have my email in Outlook for work. No need to use the OWA anymore.

Outlook calendars can't sync to iCal or the iPhone.

Has anyone using Office 2011 noticed that lines of text sometimes disappear at the bottom of the page instead of appearing on the next one? It only seems to affect print view - the text is still there and shows up if you print or use another view and subsequent lines show up okay.

Since I can't find any way to fix this bug (which effectively renders Word useless) I've switched back to Office 2007 in VMWare for now...

Same here !

To say this version is "amazing" is a slight overstatement.

That bad? I may have to skip this version.

I thought I might be alone when I commented that Outlook's basic design is getting klutzy and hard to use when compared to even the free iMail included in OSX.

I'm very impressed with how easy it was to set up Exchange servers and replications of various calendars and folders in the native OSX mail application, and find it ironic that it is harder to do with an application that was designed by the same company that owns the "Exchange" idea.

Don't kill me, please.

That's honestly how I feel, coming to OSX from decades of being restricted to using Windows + Office, and Outlook in particular.

Outlook calendars can't sync to iCal or the iPhone.

I know this was true in the past because I was a victim of Outlook calendars completely over replicating and filling up the memory of a 32 GB iPhone to the point that it could not be used any longer.

But...I thought this was fixed as of iOS 4.0.1, wasn't it?

It seems to me I was able to replicate Outlook Exchange calendars on my iPhone 4, although I admit that the most important ones were on MobileMe. Maybe MobileMe isn't really fully Exchange?

Anyone know the status of Office X support when upgrading to Office 2011?

I'm helping a friend upgrade his business computer and they've been using Entourage from Office X for, well, a while.

Is it possible to upgrade an Office X identity/database to Office 2011?

Thanks.

One more Outlook 2011 question...can you now send fully HTML-formatted emails with Outlook? I've always been bugged by this lack of functionality in Entourage (at least in X and 2004).

Thanks.

Yes, you can do that and each new email you can go to option and slide the format button from HTML to plain.

Maybe I asked that incorrectly. Entourage 2004 allows you to send HTML-formatted emails, but not to create an email that is basically a fully HTML-encoded page.

Will Outlook 2011 allow for that?
