Im torn between the Cubs and Brewers but if their pitching and Soriano pan out I say they can edge the Brewers. I don't trust the Giants to be able to make it with just Zito so I can't give them the Wild Card.

I can't see the Astros making it without Pettitte and Clemans and Philly has no chance.

Ah- so the Cubs get to number 2 because everyone else is bad, I love it! :) And that's the only way they'd do it anyway. ;)

I think the NL Central is up for grabs, The Brewers are building a team and the Cubs always have a shot on paper and with Soriano they might have enough.

You really gave the Cubs a lot of credit. :) I wouldn't have. Their capacity to achieve the lowest lows is phenomenal.

The Cubs bought a lot on credit! Not that this will help them win. Nothing seems to make that happen -- it's one of the game's great constants.

But did you ever notice -- all of MacNut's predictions have the Yankees winning the World Series? Those Yankee fans, they set themselves up for disappointment like no others!

Actually I didn't think I had the Mets winning the division last year.

Some of the idiots are still on the team tho. The dream team is what made it go.

I could've sworn Millar started that enitre Idiots thing and the 2003 "Cowboy Up" line.

Captain Idiot (Oriole), Caveman (Yankee), and Guitar Hero (Red).

MLB makes 1st rules changes in 11 years

A major league position player who scuffs or defaces a baseball would be ejected and receive an automatic 10-game suspension under changes approved Friday by the sport's playing rules committee.

Previously, the penalty was to call the pitch a ball and warn the player. For pitchers, umpires have the discretion to issue only a warning if they determine the pitcher's actions weren't intended to alter the characteristics of a pitch.

As part of the first changes to baseball rules since 1996, the committee approved a recommendation from general managers to largely eliminate tie games.

Before this year, when an official game was called due to weather and the score was tied, the statistics counted and a new game was replayed from the start. Under the change, when a game is tied in the bottom of the fifth inning or later and is called because of weather, it will be suspended and resumed before the next scheduled game between the teams at the same ballpark.

If no more games remain between the teams at the same ballpark, it will be resumed when the teams meet at the visitor's ballpark. If it is the final scheduled meeting between the teams, it will be replayed from the start if it is needed to determine a postseason berth.

Under another change, a player may no longer step into a dugout to catch a foul ball. He still will be allowed to reach into a dugout.

A batter running to first base also will be allowed to exit the 3-foot lane in foul territory "for the sole purpose of touching first base," and a batter will lose the ability to run to first on a dropped third strike if he leaves the dirt circle around home plate unless he does so while trying to reach first base.

Previously, a player could run to first until he reached the dugout or his defensive position.

In another change, a batter who hits an apparent game-ending home run with less than two outs would be allowed to circle the bases if a runner ahead of him doesn't continue to home plate, thinking the game is over. If there are two outs when the play begins, however, the runner who abandons trying for home plate would be the third out and the home run would not count.

Another change allows pitchers to wear a multicolored glove if the umpire determines it isn't distracting. And a pitcher in the stretch position instead of a windup with no runners on base no longer will have to come to a complete stop.

With no runners on, a pitcher will be required to pitch within 12 seconds, the timing starting when the pitcher is in possession of the ball and the batter is in the batter's box, alert to the pitcher.

In addition, several changes were made to the scoring rules.

Batter's box presence: Conversely, an automatic strike will be assessed each time a batter violates the rule requiring they keep one foot in the batter's box throughout his at-bat, except for certain game-play conditions -- during which he is still not allowed to leave the dirt area surrounding the plate.

Nothing too major. Seems like some house keeping rule changes. With the exception of scuffing the ball. 10 game suspension. That rule should be called the "Kenny Rogers Rule"

one of the many reasons i can't stand the red sox.

meanwhile, i'll be at cardinals and marlins workouts on wednesday. i may post a few of the pics in this thread or make a new thread for baseball pics.

If you go to a game and take pics post them in here. Everybody loves baseball game pictures!

I hate the Red Sox because I'm a Yankee Fan (and vice versa for Sox fans).

something else...glavine may retire if he wins #300 this year. as you know, most braves fans, me included, have a bit of anger against him for going for cash back in 2003. he's a big time traitor and will boo him every time i see him. not only did he leave us, he went with the mutts of all people.

and btw, their stadium is a toilet bowl and were no good for years of being picked to dethrone us before last year. i can't stand the mets. i always cheer for the yankees over the mets, even though i don't like either of them.

and contrary to the news, it's cold down here in florida too. not as bad as it was in the north, but it got down to the 30's last night in south florida and flurries showed up in tally.

I wonder if this rule change is a result of that infamous play in the 2005 ALCS game between the Angels and White Sox, when AJ Pierzynski started back to the dugout on strike three, and then safely ran to first?

Well the toilet bowl will be gone in 2009 as well as the cathedral in the Bronx.

Many Yankee Fans refer to Shea as the Barney Stadium (it supposed to be blue but it's purple) Thankfully both NY teams are getting new stadiums.

Wow 30s is cold for Florida. Just make sure the oranges don't freeze! I need my Orange Juice!!!

I don't understand how you can even cheer for the Yankees... see 1996 and 1999. :D But, I guess if the Yanks/Mets are playing each other I can see where you're comming from.

I was wondering if any other Yankee fans called Yankee Stadium "The Cathedral". I'm big on calling it that.

As much as I am going to miss The Cathedral, we were in need of a new stadium. And that one will be dubed The Cathedral II or The Second Cathedral.

Good ones!.The idiot thing was pretty much Millar's clame to fame.Lord knows he sure couldn't hit, other than into double plays. The switch to the National League was good for Arroyo. Among other things,he didn't handle the pressure he well at all.The one deal I would love to have back,is the Damon deal. And yeah,I despise the Yankees as much as you despise the Red Sox..

It will be interesting to see if Soriano pulls an Arod and chokes on his money.

I'm more worried about him just being too damn old and broken down halfway through his contract. The guy is going to be 38 or 39 by the time it's all said and done and unless he's still putting up good numbers by the final year - or traded away for something useful - it will be another bust contract for the Cubbies.

i like Soriano.....but i never did like the cubs.....i mean, come on, Slammin' Corkin' Steriodin' Sosa...

Don't hate Sammy for trying to get an edge, like most baseball players do. Hate 'em for being a spoiled, lying, bad-attitude-having, possible-steroid-using schmuck.
